If so they are doing it wrong. Just look at Joel Osteen. And he does it with only one convention center.

HOME SCHOOL and the upcoming generation of scientifically illiterate kids
by Terry inwhen i worked for a book store i became familiar with beka text books for home school.. i spoke with the mothers who came looking for them.
i realized something didn't smell right.. then, i realized there are a couple of generations of fundamentalist kids who have had no exposure.
to the scientific method, science facts or any conversancy with physics or biology or history as a result of beka textbooks.. in a nutshell here is the situation:.

Did anyone in the congregation discourage you from going to college?
by Trapped in JW land ini remember being out on service with an elder when i was 17. he asked me what i plan on doing after high school.
i told him i was thinking of going to college to be a teacher.
he then asked me, "do you think this system is going to be around that long"?

I was never discoraged but we did gossip quite a bit about the elders son that went.
This was before they put it in writing that it was wrong.

She can say she hates gays all she wants
Interesting, next time she can take the job but wear a t-shirt with anti-gay messages on it.

I'm a bit torn, I have been to at least one restaurant with my black GF and I felt like they might have given us bad service and cold food to keep us from coming back. Might be better to just say you don’t want us there so nobody wastes their time.
And on the other side of the coin, I was at a gay bar with a few of my friends. I went out for a smoke, meanwhile the door guy showed up and wouldn't let me back in even though my coat was in the coat room. To be fair, that might have had more to do with the way I was dressed rather than being straight.
It does raise the question; Is it ok for for gay people to keep straight people out? And what about women only business? I used to fix fitness equipment and regularly went to a chain of women only gyms. Why is that ok?

Are all JWs united in their beliefs?
by enigma1863 inso i used to think that all witnesses believed the same exact thing but i have heard some claims that they believe things i'm not familiar with.
do you know if it's true?
-

I don't think most of them have actual beliefs on a lot of the what the FDS teaches.
They believe that the JWs is the one true religion so if the FDS says it then it must be true.
At least that is how it was for me.

Which Conspiracy Theory Should You Believe?
by metatron inhttp://www.buzzfeed.com/katieheaney/which-conspiracy-theory-should-you-believe-in.
it's a quiz to help you pick a conspiracy theory that fits you.
i ended up with "moon landing was faked" which doesn't exactly apply.. .

mynameislame
So DJS are you saying the government is 100% honest with us?
There are many things that would be considered a conspiracy that are absolutely true.
NSA, We sold guns to the Mexican Cartels, Tuskegee, Watergate. The list goes on and on.

Understanding the differences between doing a good job and doing a perfect job
by Terry infor anything to be perfect, there has to be a standard in place regarding its function.. i love to use the analogy of a dinner fork.. if your standard for eating is the conveying of food from plate to mouth, a fork is a. perfect.
utensil for eating peas, fries, etc.. .
however--it is not worth much for eating soup!

Are you a good person?
by Xanthippe insomething happened this week to make me think about this again.. it feels like all bets are off and i really don't know what a good person is anymore.. when i left the jws i was so sure i knew what it meant to be a good person.. this has been revised many times since.. i tend to favour the utilitarian approach, the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people.. sometimes you have to stick your neck out and say this is not good for me no matter what others may feel they need from me.. no idea where i'm going with this maybe this is a breakthrough in my life or maybe that glass of wine was stronger than i thought!.
any thoughts?.

Definitely a tricky question. Just watch a few episodes of Dexter. Talk about cognitive dissonance! Is he a good or a bad person?
If you give money to a homeless person and he goes out and buys drugs or alcohol with it does that make you a bad person or a good one?
If you donate to the less fortunate are you really helping them or are you encouraging them to rely on handouts instead of taking responsibility for themselves? If you have enough for yourself and your family are you a bad person if you don't donate the extra to people in need?
Most everyone would agree that Scrooge was a bad person but I was listing to a podcast about how A Christmas Carol is actually teaching a terrible lesson. The reality is that, although Scrooge complained about it, he gave Crachet the day off with pay. He was derided for collecting what was his just because it was Christmas. His redemption was to put himself out of business by allowing all his debtors off the hook. The only thing he was really guilty of was being grouchy. There were a lot more examples that I don't remember but it was a fairly convincing argument after thinking about it.
There is no such thing as selfish, or everything you do is selfish depending on how you look at it.
There are two drivers for all our actions, gaining pleasure or avoiding pain. -

Easy to believe the FDS gets direction from God if you do this. Did you?
by Wasanelder Once inok how many of you while a jw took the advice to pray on a problem and then open the bible and start reading.
did you seem to get "just the right scripture" that answered your prayer?
