Why do the GB need a new Bethel compound if the end is so close? Here is the "official" answer
by sir82 inas most of us know, the society is spending 10's of millions of dollars on a giant, state of the art, secluded bunker country club headquarters in very remote, isolated warwick ny.. the question that "some" have is, why?
if armageddon is coming "very soon", why go to all that time & effort & expense?
why have thousands of jws dedicating their time to this massive effort instead of the "lifesaving ministry"?.

Theft of Reminiscing
by rebel8 inso i'm now at the developmental stage of adulthood when my peers and i are beginning to reminisce about our childhoods.
if you've ever taken developmental psychology, you know the importance of reminiscing.
yesterday i went to an event about something retro and participants were really nostalgic and just really enjoying themselves.

Quit lamenting the lost childhood. Being in my 60's I could give a sh*t about a lost past. I grew up a JW and I don't feel I missed any of that child hood stuff. You grow up anywhere and everywhere anyway.
What bothers me is they stole my future. Or I should say I "allowed" them to steal my future.
I wish I would have never learned the truth about the truth.
I would have preferred closing my eyes at death thinking I would open them again to a better life.
It's a shame that it was such a weak and unprovable premise "everlasting life in paradise". It didn't have the strength to survive a life time.

It's obvious what they are doing. They want to have larger groups with larger baptisms. They want people to feel part of a larger organization.
They want to re-capture the excitement of the past. Myriads and Myriads of brothers.
Small conventions have gotten to be too easy, too predictable, life-less. And they really don't have enough of the talented motivated speakers to put on an encouraging small convention.

Jehovah's Witnesses actions and behaviours
by jw04 ini was reading one of the magazines about 2 years ago, about what to know about social networking sites, the warnings and cautiousness.
i am not so sure if they don't like the internet, these days almost everyone uses internet.
i know many have accounts online.

I know this is a crank on JW site but lets be honest. Everyone is deluded and it's adaptation for survival.
Some JW's do very well with their particular delusions.
We don't like to be called "Mentally Diseased" so let's not accuse others of the same.
Hypocrisy is the purpose of the human animal's large brain. We don't have large brains to understand the universe.
Our large brain is to keep track of our lies, other people's lies and whose lies we have to pretend to believe and which people believe our lies. For an extended family of about 100- 200 people that is a formidable task. And we don't use just 10% of our brains to do that. We use all of our brains for that.
It's mental illness (unsanity not insanity) to think any of us have it together.

My mother gave the society close to 30 thousand dollars in the mid '80s.
At the time I was struggling and begging Jehovah for help to find an apartment for my family of 5.
The apartment I was renting became a condo and I had to move. Self-employed. No credit. No one wanted to rent to more than 2 kids.
So, apparently Jehovah wanted the printing company to get the funds.
My parents would never lend me the money for a house down payment. I never asked for a gift - just a loan.
At that point I quit putting money in the contribution box for anything.
I figure I gave enough.

Crazy Stuff Jesus Said and Did
by Oubliette inwhen we believe that the bible really is the inspired word of god, we approach it with a certain mindset that does weird things to our thinking abilities, namely shutting them off.
due to this cognitive bias, we blindly accept that whatever we read in the bible--no matter how bizarre, outrageous or non-sensical--must be there for a good reason, even if we don't or can't understand it.
the fault of course is ours, not the bible's, and most certainly not god's!

I like the part where Jesus said you have to report field service three months in a row before you can be baptized.
Oops! I got my crazy stuff mixed up.

7/15 WT- Insane, Far Fetched, Narcissistic "New Light " about the FDS
by flipper ini know this article has been discussed, re-hashed upside down in past threads.
but there were at least 2 points i discovered in here that i felt were pertinent and important to bring out concerning the total control and narcissistic tendencies that these wt leaders possess on the governing body, i.e.
alleged " faithful slave " .

And the Pope just threw a few crumbs to homosexuals. Isn't that nice of HIM. And then he says women in the church should take a greater role - but the preisthood is closed.
So the Body of Governors are no different.
ALL-ALL-ALL organized religion is a pathetic mens club.

Rebel 8,
However, a Danish and a cup of coffee is permitted if you have put in at least 1 hour of riding around in a car making return visits.
The bitter coffee to wash down the sugar coated pastry is an appropriate reminder of the dual aspect of our message - hope and judgement.

by snapdragon4 inin recent weeks the jw’s here in the uk have been setting up their new portable watchtower literature displays in my local town square on a saturday morning.
as they hadn’t knocked on my door for at least five years, and consequently feeling somewhat neglected, i thought that i would pay them a visit instead.. .
the first thing i needed to do was arrange my literature.

I still have an old street magazine bag that says Watchtower 5 cents. I feel like making a scan of some old magazines and walking around their display holding up old titles.
