JWs' Letter to Dateline

i just got a copy of the society's letter to dateline as to why they would not agree to an on-camera interview.. they said that since dateline told them that most of the people that they were interviewing considered themselves active jws, that for the headquarters to make a statement that it would make it appear as though "brother" was speaking out against "brother".

and that a nationally televised program was not the appropriate forum for them to work out their differences.

(this is interesting since the pandelos and barb have been dfed, haven't they?).

This the root of the pedophile problem. The Watchtower is more concerned with its image than the real problem. The pedophile problem can wait on Jehovah, but the PR problem needs action now.

Actually I think the real problem is the presumption that the elders are qualified to deal with any problems that arise. Seen in the best light, that is. Of course it comes over that they are trying to hide the problems away from the public, especially in the way they treat the victims. But it all boils down to how much importance is given to the elder arrangement. They are made to feel infalible and they are extremely self important. And they don't like being undermined - even if they've brought it on themselves.

Dateline video - purchase or download?

i missed it, so i was wondering how i can get ahold of a video.

does anyone who taped it plan on recording it in .avi format for download?.

or did they air a 1-800 number to call to order a video?

Silentlambs Hits/ Counter

don't know if anyone else looked prior to the show it was a little over 57,000 hits.

the counter/hits now stands about 67,000-- 10,000 hits in a little over an hour!!!!!.

Any xjw Fellowship in Australia?

hi folks,.

does anyone know if anyone is holding in-house monotheistic christian fellowship in australia?

we live in the central portion of the state of victoria and are willing to travel moderate distances to fellowship with like-minded believers and/or have fellowship at our home.

Welcome to the board Spaz. I live in Melbourne but I'm not a believer. I am an exjw and I don't mind discussing all aspects of religion. It's just that I lost my faith when I left the WT and that was 20 years ago.

So does that follow that every time you do want to go to a meeting, you should stop home? I'm sure that would drum up more enthusiasm for the meetings.

Why a JW family member is traumatic to non JW?

i was raised in a very religiously strict christian home, and have been presbyterian or baptist my whole life.

i have heard nothing but bad things about the jw's.

just recently i have gotten very interested in in learning more about jw, and possibly becoming one.

Families always get alarmed when loved ones join sects or cults - no matter what the religion. You must have seen documentaries on how distressed parents get when their children join the Moonies or The Children of God or The Orange People. It's the same for husbands and wives. The one who isn't being pulled into the belief system, is left out and they are unable to see what the recruit sees. Their loved ones become more and more distant to them - as they change their attitudes and strong feelings from them to the religion. Actually over time, the recruit becomes very suspicious of their families, believing that their family is working with the Devil, and trying to stop the recruit from being with God.

Whatever the hell you think you can see in the Jehovah's Witness sect, they are just one of many groups that practise intellectual persuasion and mind control to make you think as they do. We know exactly what you think you can see - because we've all been there done that. (only most of us wasted a good deal more time on it than you will - hopefully)

All you have to do now is open your mind to other opinions and think very carefully. Actually when you get the hang of it, it's so bleedin' obvious that they are wrong, wrong, wrong - you will be embarrassed that you even considered it. We are all highly embarrassed by our gulibility and naivity.

Family Values

if a family member is df....or whatever....if jw are supposed to be christian....why do the cut you off....god is a loving god who loves all his children...and why is it that you have to go through an "exit" interview...like its a job or something?

there are many unanswered question i have...but this is just one of them to start...it seems to me that its hypocritical...

The God Jehovah's Witnesses worship is very harsh and judgemental. He is not all warm and fluzzy as in other religions. He is "a God exacting exclusive devotion"! Those who do not do what they have been told by the Watchtower authorities, are showing an independent spirit and a lack of willingness to submit to the belief that God directs the Watchtower leaders to look after his people. The Watchtower Society is not interested in individuals with their own agenda - it just wants 'yes men' and women who do as they are told 100% of the time. They control this by kicking out anyone who is a dissenter. Actually sins of the flesh are forgiven more readily than the crime of independence from their teachings.

The very successfull BBC drama "Brideshead revisited" was about this very subject. Quite a fascinating 10 or so hours of viewing.

I guess the question is, who cares?

How Cancer Gave Me My Life Back

hi all, this is a bit of a realization that i had in the last two weeks:.

why having cancer was a watershed in my life.

before i had cancer, i was a dutiful dub, doing all that was required.

Pat, My mother has cancer, and these days she's become a little sensitive about me criticising the Troof. I tend to feel guilty for this incurable habit of mine, especially now, because I feel it's every one's right to use a crutch when they are afraid of the unknown. Not everyone can face cancer and grow from the experience and that's fine. It's interesting that Waiting didn't feel YOU needed the crutch, after the diagnosis. She judged you well. I can't honestly say how I would cope in this situation - but I expect I'd just have to get on with it, because I've come too far on the road of enlightenment. I'm stuck with reality I'm afraid.

I have a sister who is a witness. I feel we could have been very close just like you and Waiting. But she is lost in the Tower and we are very awkward stangers. So you got cancer and gained your sister. Not a bad trade off eh?
