  Aaaah, Sweet Gossip

  gossip is nothing new... we hear it everywhere, at work, with friends, even on this message board.

  it's nothing special, and it will stay with humanity for a long, long time, if not forever.. however, if one claims to be in god's only organization on earth, part of god's plan for a *paradise earth*, then one must therefore be free of such *petty* things as gossip.

  at least that's what the gb says, right?.

  mindfield, I totally know where you are coming from. I'm sure I'd still be "in" (been out 20 yrs) if it weren't for my inability to line up witness behavior with what they preach. We got "in" when we were young adults - prior to that we'd gotten along just fine. After two or three years "in the truth", we were tearing at each others throats. One of my brothers put a suit on one SAturday afternoon, so he could make an official APPROACH to my other brother about some silly little incident, that normal families deal with over a beer!

  The derogertory (sp?) comments my brother's new wife made about others used to shock me - coz she was from one of the most favoured spiritual families in our city. I used to sit there doing mental gymnastics trying to work out what was happening.

  I suppose the likes of you and I idealise a religion like the JWs. We just expect them to practise what they preach. The bottom line is that they are no better than any other small group, religious or otherwise.

  Monkey trial

  it seems this whole debate, (creation v/s evolution) iz coming to the fore again, along with (religion v/s state) debate.

  my sister iz a producer for pbs & haz a documentary coming up on the scopes or (monkey trial), & i think little haz changed.. i am non-religious, but i can't help laughing when arguements are made claiming man & monkeys share common ansesters, although a few individuals on my wifes side make me wonder.

  i am not saying, i have the answers, but man iz just so radicaly different from animals!

  What do you think about Evolution debates?

  what do you think about evolution debates?.

  this is not going to be a thread about which theory is correct.

  i want to ask the board if anyone has actually found these discussions on evolution to be beneficial to themselves.

  rem, I think they are great fun. I don't learn much from them though coz I'm too skeptical to read too much from the creationists viewpoint. Ya see it never did come down to evolution for me. It was more about how Jehovah God has handled things from the begining. A bit of a clutz IMO! I was left with evolution when I rejected God.

  AMarie, I wish you the best. I've seen your situation all too often. Young people need their parents for guidence. Though I think my daugher would prefer that I keep my opinions to myself more. :-( Geez at least I am not telling her that the meetings are the cureall for everything. My niece is 18 and living on her own and not making particularly good life choices. However, she will learn a hell of a lot more this way than she will listening to the same old, same old that her parents offer.

  My heart goes out to you. Remember that you are not just in search of world shattering love. A good man, with a kind heart, who puts you first, is worth a 100 of the good looking selfish ones!!!

  moman, yes there are a few technical problems with evolution, coz it started millions of years ago, and well, things get misplaced around my house in the course of a week, so ya can see how hard it is to keep track of evolutionary evidence left lying around the planet for millions years ago.

  I think it's natural to assume then that in spite of the incredible fossil evidence that we have located, it really is much more feasable to fabricate a big old mystical being - and with no scientic evidence whatsoever, we can make him the designated creator. It's just so much tidier this way - no messy loose ends to account for.

  I understand your panic feelings. Some people panic real easy, and I'm one of them. I'd absolutely hate to hurt this wonderful guy you are living with. However, you do have a perfect reason for asking him to give you more time. The emotional upheaval you've recently experienced would be enough to put anyone off a serious committment for some time to come. So either tell him this now or wait until Christmas Day. Your choice. If you tell him now, without alluding to what you think he's got you for Christmas, you can approach the subject of committment without making him feel foolish for buying you a ring and expecting wedding bells some time soon.

  I'm a mother of a daughter of marrying age, and she's dating someone at the moment that I don't think is right for her - and to some degree I think he might just be filling in time with her. This really annoys me because I feel she deserves so much more than that. So I would like to say this to you, by way of motherly advice. Decide what it is you want in a life time partner. If you are certain that Phil doesn't fit the criteria, why not release him so that he can find someone he CAN share his life with? Unless he appreciates the ground rules, and is happy to live with you, knowing that you don't want to marry him. It sounds like Phil deserves that kind of honesty.

  my kids recently met my older brother.

  they took photo's.

  i had forgotten that they'd seen him and i was thumbing thru my daughter's pictures and came across a picture of my brother with my daugher and one with my son.

  Hi Bluesapphire, You comments made me feel oh so sad. I know what you are feeling. I too am responsible for talking my siblings into becoming dubs. What a burden of guilt to carry. I almost feel my punishment of being shunned is inadequate. My brother, the one in the photo, was the last one to succumb to my hard sell approach.

  Just make sure your family are well aware of what your sister is doing, because unsuspecting family members are the most vulnerable to the JW quackery. Then I think you should use these family occassions with your sister to put her on the spot in front of the unbelieving relatives. When there is a lull in the conversation, you should tell the group how your sister isn't allowed to talk to you any more because she belongs to a religion that controls her every moment. Then make the announcement that you are prepared for a permanent separation from your sister, because you have no intention of returning to a religion that doesn't allow you to do anything outside their endless rules.

  Go for her throat Saph, They are all fair game and you have the perfect opportunity to make her squirm (not smirk!!!!!)

  Worldly Witness er? I remember you! I use Marilyn most of the time, and when I visit my husband who is working in Hong Kong I use Mazza. I wish I could change my real name to something less obvious coz I've been sprung by my jw siblings. And gee they might not speak to me for another 20 years for posting on here!!!!! (I am now unspeakably unspeakable - rather than just unspeakable!!)

  Thanx Pat. I've never heard of it until I asked the question about Ouji boards. Doesn't sound too dangerous - though I'm sure the WTS frowns on it. What don't they frown on? Apart from donations of time and money!

  So... Where Are They?

  i moved to my current location, a house in a quiet, friendly, family-oriented neighborhood, in july of this year.

  i've been here five months.

  i'm usually home on saturday mornings and sunday afternoons.
