  Another NWT Mistranslation?

  ok, this post isn't out to prove anything, other than i've got too much time on my hands, which alot of you know that already.. over my morning coffee this morning i decided to read the section of the bible dealing with nimrod and the tower of babel.

  i have two bibles at home the nwt and the new american standard.

  heres what th nwt says at gen 10:9.

  Regarding the METHOD of translating:
  "It has been our endeavor to make this translation as literal as possible to the point of understandableness."

  In Genisis 10:9 the footnote gives an alternate rendering.
  Literally, "in front of," but in the sense of defiance and opposition to, as in the case of the same expression at Numbers 16:2; 1 Chronicles 14:8 and 2 Chronicles 14:10. The LXX reads en.an.ti'on, generally meaning "against".

  There are other well respected Bible commentators that support your points and thus confirm the accuracy of the New World Translation
  in it's rendering of Genesis 10:9.

  frustration of discussion .

  discussions with my fellow jehovahs witnesses (jw) is not an easy affair when difficult subjects and questions are addressed to ones who pride themselves on an ability to answer for all doctrines as published in the watchtower, which we know as the chief journal of the governing body of jehovahs witnesses and published by the watchtower bible and tract society of new york (wts) and associated corporations.

  a recent experience exemplifies this difficulty and how it poses a considerable hindrance to growth in knowledge and understanding among jws.

  Although the kingdom ministry school had a 40 minute part on Assisting
  Others to Keep Abstaining From Blood, they never explained how this could be done scripturally. Their best arguement was an appeal to a "religious position."

  Your points are well taken. More "pillars" like you are needed.

  i remember hearing stories of an elderly brother who would go to the door and ask the householder what their favorite color was.

  if the householder responded blue...he would pull out the 'truth' book, if his/her response was green it was the...well, you get the idea.

  this old brother had a book in every color and always placed them.
