I enjoyed your posts Maksym and JustHuman. That is essentially how I would describe it as well.

The Christian Onslaught
by satinka in*sigh* i have been noticing lately there are a number of groups of "christians" signing up as members of this forum, with the obvious agenda of gaining converts for their own cult-like religions.
i have been wondering things like:.
hmmm...maybe i'll try ignoring them.. thank you simon for the space to vent.. satinka.

Why do so many here think that poison and pure water are the same, that a counterfeit bill is the same as a genuine bill in the eyes of God and government? Why do people think 2+2=4 and 5 at the same time?
Many of the things we are discussing are not reducible to simple math. You left the JWs, good, but it appears that you still think a lot like one.
We should all be students and learn from each other. We should also understand our differences. However, when our fruit is the spread of intolerance and hatred, we need to ask ourselves what the source is. Is this the Holy Spirit or is this Satan?
And yes, this applies to Atheists too.
Having/needing someone to hate is one of man's baser instincts. We seek a clear enemy. Leaders with no ethics often make use of this flaw. They incite hatred of a group or person, and claim absolute truth. They use hate as a way to unify others under their own rule. It's difficult to get a lot of people to love you, but it's easy to get a lot of people to hate another. Fanning the flames of a common passion is a manipulative tactic used by those that want to rule others.
Disagreements among people are unavoidable. There are some real and important differences between X-JWs, even among those that are Christians. Discussion among and between these groups can either be edifying or destructive. The outcome will depend on the attitude and spirit of the participants.

I don't know the name of my daddy's maternal grandmother.
Neither do I know the name of my mother's paternal grandmother.
I have a similar situation with a G grandfather's parents (the parents of my father's father's father). He was illegitimate and raised by an adopting family. The family story is that his mother was some sort of nobility, and his father was a servant. She could not keep the child, and had a poor family raise him. Anyway, my last name comes from the adopting family.

I cannot comprehend the level of greed and criminal behaviour that underlies the American economy.
Well, this helps raise the blood pressure:

Leonor, Maria, Juana and Berta.
They were born in Ibiza, Galicia, the Canary Islands, and Cuba. All except one died in the US.

I'm curious what the Orthodox believe.
The Orthodox do not dispute Peter's being the Bishop of Rome.
The Church Fathers had minimal involvement with Rome. Rome wasn't a player until Constantine.
We have the letters of Pope Clement to the Corinthians to demonstrate that this is not so.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_Clement
We also have many references from other Christian writers and Fathers from the second century that show that the Roman church was prominent. This is well before Constantine.
Does anyone else wonder why the NT does not contain more info.
The NT is not comprehensive, and it was never intended to be. Fundamentalists misuse it when they treat it in this way (not saying you are fundamentalist).
And yes, the story of the Thomist Christians is fascinating.
