I've read his Pillars of Creation. It was OK.

Fall of Giants---Ken Follet
by ldrnomo inone of the most freeing things i've been able to do since fading from the watchtower's tendril like grasp is, "read what i want to" i particularly enjoy historial novels because they entertain and inform all at the same time.
i'm just finishing the first of a trilogy "fall of giants" and there was a paragraph that made me think of the great influence of propaganda machines (probably because i was so influenced by the watchtower) i am hugely aware of it's power to lead people all over the place like the waves of the sea i suppose.. here is the paragraph:.
maud knew the proprietor of the mail, lord northcliffe.

An interesting chat between Dawkins and Gervais
by cedars ini obviously don't agree with everything that's said (especially when gervais talks about agnostics!
), but it's an intriguing discussion between two clever people, and some mostly good reasoning on display.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd92qy2zmv0.

Rather than a "we know better" claim. I saw the point being made as, that faith, or belief in god, puts in place a filter, through which everything else is strained and viewed. And that non-belief is simply a removing of that filter . . . would you not agree?
Or the replacement of a filter with a different one. We've all got filters.

I once saw a bunch of pelicans lined up, crapping in the water. A bunch of sailcats were below and ate the crap as soon as it hit the surface.
Not anywhere near the best tasting fish, imho. But I'm not that picky.

There was a debate last night. D'Souza, Shermer, Hutchson and Krauss. An atheist family member texted me as it was starting and I caught much of the live stream. The subject was "Does Science Refute God?" The debate was all over the map, on too many subjects rather than the principle one. It wasn't very good for that reason. However, everyone was decent and respectful towards one another, which is excellent.

Interesting Jesus cults
by Christ Alone inlarsinger and his posts got me to thinking about others that believe/believed that they are/were jesus.
i started looking up a ton of info and stumbled across some pretty interesting cults.
i just wanted to create a thread to talk about or post videos, links, or articles about modern day cults that you have found interesting.

Read Revelation to see what Christianity teaches about it.
Revelation's highly metaphorical language makes it extremely open to interpretation. Many people have read it using different approaches and coming to different conclusions.

"Alexamenos worships his god".
Not terribly flattering.
No. It isn't.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexamenos_graffito
Interpretation
The inscription is accepted by authoritative sources, such as the Catholic Encyclopedia, [18] to be a mocking depiction of a Christian in the act of worship.
So the grafitti is is a mocking depiction of Christian worship. Sound familiar? Some things don't change even in nearly 2000 years, do they?
This thread is a case in point. We have Simon's Graffito kicking it off as the original post. And there are plenty of others. Maybe the person who drew that was one of Simon's ancestors.
Mock away. Christians are still here. And we will still be here when you've gone the way of the person that drew the above. Nothing you can do will change that.
