  100 Years of Disappointment on the Horizon

  even as an elder, i had doubts as to this being "the one true religion".

  i personally had chosen 2014 as one of those "make or break" dates.

  fortunately, i left years ago.

  My memories go back to the early 1980’s and for as long as I can remember I’ve heard “we know we are at deep into the times of the end because this ol’ system can’t get much worse”

  Iron Curtain- “Can’t get much worse”

  Soviet Collapse- OH THE KING OF THE XXX has fallen… “can’t get much worse”

  An earthquake- “Sign of the times can’t get much worse”

  A Storm- “Sign of the times can’t get much worse”

  Space shuttle disaster- “Can’t get much worse”

  Genocide in Europe- “can’t get much worse” Note… modern genocides really don’t even compare to the biblical ones supposedly caused by their just god.

  Terrorist bombings- “can’t get much worse”

  My favorites are the wars… every time we have a modern war its obviously the beginning of Armageddon

  Economic troubles- “here we go!” I knew several people who went and bought new cell phones so their book study conductor could call them and let them know when to go hide at the kingdom hall so they could survive the apocalypse.

  School Shootings- “Can’t get much worse”

  The funny thing to me from a historical prospective is that we really are living in the best time period in human history. We have small wars and disagreements but the casualty numbers are almost laughable compared to the wars of the middle ages or even biblical times. Modern medicine is at the point that having a limb blown off doesn’t mean a lifetime of pain and suffering OR immediate death. We don’t have mass plagues anymore that wipeout huge %’s of the world population every few years. We can *grow* new organs and limbs and successfully transplant them into people who need them. We have the technology and the infrastructure to put boots and supplies on the ground where a natural disaster strikes within hours of it happening on the other side of the world. We have all but ended the lovely biblical establishment known as slavery… but somehow we are living in the end of times and have been for the past 100 years. These people just ignore the facts.

  A Memorial First

  i've been out for a good solid 7 years.. last night was the 2nd memorial in a row i did not attend.. this year's memorial was the 1st time i did not receive an invitation or a visit or a phone call from anyone asking me to attend.. in fact, i didn't even realize it was last night until i got on this website this morning.. it feels great!.

  We've been out for two years and last year we were bombarded with invites from family and the locals and friends. We were in a constant fight for the month leading upto the Memorial (the first one we skipped). This year we didnt hear a single thing from our family/friends who are still in. Not one word. We did have a couple morons knock on our door but I just let them knock. I could see through the peep hole they had invites.

  So all things biblical excluded we need to think about science when trying to breed some logic into the story of the flood. We have a lovely movement in the modern world called the Endangered Species act that has done years of extensive research into saving endangered wildlife and repopulating a particular species. According to their research (you can read details here) a species must have a median number of individuals in order to survive and thrive enough to overcome old age, disease, predation and actually have long-term gains in their population hence avoiding an extinction. In today's modern age that number is 2,400. For example there must be 2,400 White Tigers in the wild in order to have a long term viable species. Anything less than that and the rate that the animals die outpaces the rate they can reproduce in modern times we have been able to save some species using captive breeding programs however that would never be possible for a half dozen stone age people when scaled up to deal with several hundred if not thousand species that could realistically fit on the ark. Humans are included in this. If you factor in the infant mortality rate back then you are likely to see the entire human species either dead or nearly dead inside of 20 years post flood. Roughly 50% of the infants would die at birth along with their mothers and once you run out of fertile ladies things look pretty bad for the species in general.

  Game animals (two each for unclean and 7 each for clean if i remember correctly) would quickly be picked off by predators and the predators would quickly out eat their food supply and they too would die off quickly either from starvation or lack of reproduction.

  Any way you look at it the story of Noah's flood is nothing more than a story.

  in star trek v, kirk has a chance to have his secret pain removed by spock's half-brother.

  kirk refuses, and says that he needs his pain because it makes us who we are.

  Rumor Elders Will Receive Name Badges For Every Meeting.

  i keep hearing rumors elders are going to be getting permanent badge cards to wear to every meeting.

  one excited brother told me, "it would be nice if new ones to the kingdom hall could see who their shepherds are.

  there is a great surge in activity, new bible students will be able to locate the proper elder in charge of bible studies!

  I had an elder in my old cong that would wear his convention badge. It actually wouldnt shock me if they started demanding wittnesses who are in dress clothes always wear badges. with their dwindleing numbers it wouldnt shock me if they wanted to creat an illusion.

  its been stated.

  so if i went up to a local congregation and knocked on the door how would i get to talk to an elder about my mother in law.... i have no interest in being a witness.

  I actually doubt they will even take the time to discuss the matter with you. If she is already DF'd she has cut all ties to them and they have no interest in her. The picture you have of (I think) your sister in law and various un named wittnesses at a party... they are taking a softer and softer stand on the shunning thing. they still suggest it and practice it in the kingdom halls but they dont want it to be obvious in a social situation, that would be a bad wittness.

  The 144,000 is a clever ruse to keep the JW's focused. Much like society (society in general not the WTBT Society in NY) today uses celebrity to promote fashions or ideas. They have no set rules or signs or even a general idea of what qualifies someone to be one of the 144,000 so when some idiot decides they are more enlightened than everyone else and takes a drink of wine and a bite of nasty bread suddenly the locals have One of the "Anointed" walking among them. This person becomes somewhat of a celebrity they suddenly become an authority on most biblical matters and people flock to them for everything from advise to help interpreting scripture. It's laughable.

  The 144,000 is nothing more than a carrot to dangle in front of the ass. Envision that last sentence with any connotation you like, either way I can imagine it would be accurate.

  Help! I'm having serious thoughts about going back

  hello old friends, i've been thinking about going back and need you all to give me your thoughts on it.. the last year has been a horribe one for me, in the span of less than a year the following things have happened to me:.

  lost my mom to cancergot hit by a carhad a professional set back that will cost over 600k to resolveended a three and a half year relationshipit just feels like every time i think things are going to get better something else hits me and knocks me down, a small part of me wonders wether i brought all these things on myself because i left the organization (yes i know how silly that sounds) and i have given serious thought about going back.

  i need you guys to talk me out of it!.

  The last year has been a horribe one for me, in the span of less than a year the following things have happened to me:

  • Lost my mom to cancer
  • got hit by a car
  • had a professional set back that will cost over 600k to resolve
  • Ended a three and a half year relationship

  With the exception of your mother passing away it sounds like you have a great chance to make a fresh start. The best way to screw that up is to go back to old habits. I highly doubt you would set yourself back up to lose another $600K or get into another relationship doomed to failure… So why go back to a cult?

  New DVD re Jerusalem's destruction, is not allowed to be viewed by the Bethelites

  i saw the recent video just released re, the destruction of jerusalemh.

  it sure had it's share of blood and violence.

  i would imagine that the rating of that dvd would be in the "r" category.. i do remember that when you fill a bethelite application, it states that you you couldn't watch an "r" rated movie.

  Burnt into my childhood memory circuits:

  “Got Hates Violence” so shut off that movie… and go read “My Book Of Bible Stories” and look at pictures of genocide, animal sacrifice, Armageddon, a woman getting shoved out of a tall window and then read about dogs eating the bodie, go read about a bastard child being cut in half because the king couldnt decide between lying whores complete with pictures!… yes my child god hates violence. “
