Yeah that's what I remember too. I don't see how this "new light" is new, honestly.

Rank and File. It is a reference to the foot soldiers of the Watchtower, as opposed to ranking officers.
Thank you, that makes sense. We call em the footsoldiers in Dutch.

If JW's had not claimed to have the truth
by FlyingHighNow inhave you ever thought about your perceptions of the wtbts, how they would have differed had they not been spouting, "we have the truth!
" every other sentence?
if they had never said, "are you 'in the truth?'.

Personally, it would not have mattered to me. The whole self-congratulatory attitude of JWs never impressed me anyway. If they didn't claim to have the absolute truth, all that would have happened I think was that I would've realized the Christian god does not exist sooner. I care about truth above all else, after all.

I decided not to go to the IFB church I been attending
by andys ini have been going to an ifb baptist type church for about past 3 months, i started going in march and have decided to quit going, need advice on how to send them a letter i don't want to go anymore, its a soulwinning, king james onlyism type church, wow are they ever putting pressure on me to be in church every time the doors are open, i explain to them that i work alot of overtime, have my own home to take care of, also i have my ham radio hobby that i am involved in and also like to do volunteer type work, since i been missing alot of church every sunday i get a phone call from the pastor on why i wasn't in church, now i am to the point where i don't even answer my phone anymore when they call, but wow the pressure, its very irritating how legalistic church attendance for certain churches has gotten.. .
on the other hand i have decided that i still want to go to some sort of church, for a very short time in februiary i was going to a communicty type church where everyone is wearing something different, i noticed that alot of people wear blue jeans, even the pastor wears blue jeans, also its a non denominational type church that has alot of volunteer opportunities which i love doing, i have decided to go back to the non denomminational type church since i don't feel no pressure there.. .

The mark of the beast is a barcode.
Oh yes, I know that urban legend. They say it is because if you look at the number six on an EAN-13 barcode, you'll see it's two thin lines. And the lines at the beginning, the middle and the end of the barcode are also two thin lines. THAT'S 666! GASP!
What they do not (want to) know is that a number in a barcode consists of 7 bits in binary for the actual numbers (six being 0000101, where 1 is black and 0 is white) and the guard bars (the beginning, middle and end) have only three bits (101).

a SIMPLE answer re: 607 please
by RayPublisher ini know it's a complicated topic, and i've spent gobs and gobs of hours studying it and realizing that 586/587 is the most likely date.
so anyway, here's my question:.
how could jerusalem's fall be 587 but still be in line with the scriptures about 70 years of desolation that the wto uses to push 607 so strongly?
-

I don't understand the question, really. I mean...
How could Jerusalem's fall be 587 but still be in line with the scriptures about 70 years of desolation that the WTO uses to push 607 so strongly?
The answer is that the WTO made it all up for their doomsday prophecies. I don't see how you can go around in circles with this. Alternative answer: The bible is full of shit anyway. Why give it any more credence than it deserves?

What made you leave "The Truth"?
by Chemical Emotions infor me it was many things.
most concerned certain teachings that invloved genders, children, sex, sexuality and sexual orientations, disfellowshipping, apostates, blood, rape, and few other things, as well as the jw's unloving attitude toward so many people..

The short version is that I had a question: "What if we're wrong about what we believe?" The answer was: "Then we have to wait for Jehovah to correct it." That opened up a can of worms in my head, and it took me a few days to become sound of mind. (That is, to drop religion - especially something ridiculous such as Christianity - like the steaming pile of shit it is.)

What was something that you loved but were denied as a JW?
by Chemical Emotions ini could go on and on about all the things i loved, but i'll keep it brief and just mention one, rather trivial thing: music.
i love grunge and punk, and occasionally heavy metal, and can't listen to a lot of it as a witness..

Is immorality escalating?
by jworld ini got the convention update from my mom, who attended this past weekend.
sounds like the society made the claim that immorality is escalating at a faster clip.
is that true?

I love the argument from authority they make. "Gerald Heard"? Who is he to decide that it is a "truism" that nobody can look at the world without being concerned? So I wikipedia'd the man.
He maintained a regular discipline of meditation, along the lines of yoga, for many years. In the 1950s, Heard tried LSD and felt that, used properly, it had strong potential to 'enlarge Man's mind' by allowing a person to see beyond his ego.
Does the WTS really want to be taking viewpoints from someone who does yoga and is on LSD? (Well, was, the man is dead now, obviously.)
After quoting some more people, they just blindly assert that these are "clear-thinking men". But isn't that the question of reader? That it's just alarmist talk? The WTS just say "NO!" and doesn't actually give any evidence whatsoever. On the contrary, it continues to talk about "the moral breakdown of Christianity" - when this was never even hinted at, neither in the question, nor in the quotations, nor even in the bible - a book which is bullshit anyway.
Close off with some threats and fearmongering and call it a day.

Human Ancestor Older Than Previously Thought; Finding Offers New Insights Into Evolution
by whereami inhuman ancestor older than previously thought; finding offers new insights into evolution .

sciencedaily (june 30, 2011) modern humans never co-existed with homo erectus -- a finding counter to previous hypotheses of human evolution -- new excavations in indonesia and dating analyses show.

Interesting. Just pure speculation, but it could be that erectus just continued its emigration and sapiens later came to the same region. I don't know how migratory erectus was, though. An alternative is, of course, just a generation between the two we've missed so far.
