quite a few people on jwd have said they suffer from complex post traumatic stress disorder ( c-ptsd).
i'm not sure how well this issue has been discussed.
c-ptsd is slightly different than ptsd.
To Lady Lee: That was an extremely well-written post. When I got my degree, I didn't have many options for courses about cults. I had chosen to take extra electives and did Social Gerentology and Child Development, with an emphasis on abuse of any kind. As you know, you can only take so many credits.
I wish someone could put your post in a newsletter somewhere that people can download.

Strangely enough, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they taught. After all, Rutherford and many others up there (LIKE HELL) were real "horse's asses". It does make sense.

in the united states, the courts have refused to hear cases about disfellowshippings or shunning issues because of reluctance to interfere with church law.
this has protected the watchtower society legally and given them wide latitude in how they abuse their members.. i wonder if this could also work to their disadvantage.
a disfellowshipping is a simple case of one person against many, so it can safely be assumed that the many are the ones enforcing church law.
I'd LOVE to see that happen. Sauce for the goose. But I agree that it won't happen soon, or at all. There are just too many JW's who want to play by the GB's rules. They are psychologically trapped in the "mindset of lunacy".
Even a grass roots movement would take a tremendous amount of strength from the rank and file JW's. I don't think there are enough to make a difference.

To JWWA: It's always nice to see new people here. I've received much help from reading posts, messaging some members, and posting things myself. I'm sure you'll benefit greatly from this forum.

Nothing would change for me. I'm divorced now so the ex-wife is gone from my life. My daughter is the only person I care about and she is totally shunning me. The "friends" I had aren't worth being called friends if they ignore me because a dozen lunatics in NYC told them to do so. I have no other family in the WTS, so I have those people still.
i just read both of these books over the holiday wekend, and was struck by just how much both books parallel the wt$.

I read 1984 back in high school (1960's) and Animal Farm about 8 years ago. I think 1984 describes the WT better. But Animal Farm is also good because it shows how a class distinction (the GB and/or Bethelites) can evolve even though everyone agreed in the beginning that this wouldn't happen.
In 1984, the things done to the man who disagreed with the Party included emotional and psychological abuse. The WTS does the same thing. I used to wonder if 1984 was written by an ex-JW since it was such a close comparison.

Good point, MM. I will never understand how the WTS ignores the Bible warning about putting black for white and white for black. If God doesn't change, why do they?
If the resurrection did start several decades ago, I wonder what Russell and Rutherford are saying about what the WTS is now doing. Russell in particular must be pulling his hair (and his white beard) out and pacing back and forth.

The child abuse cover-ups, particularly painful because my daughter was raped. The lies about 607 BCE just like Mary said. They defend that date to the death. It's too bad that if God judges people the way the WTS says he will, then all of them, including "unclean" babies, will die. That's fair, right??
The flip-flops on blood and organ transplants. Lying in court to get custody of the kids by saying they are free to join after school activities, which is bullshit. The date predictions, all of which failed, yet they mock everyone else who does the same.
In a way, it's the WT doing just what all the other churches do. Yet they have a unique and special "note from the teacher" while they don't bestow that right on others when THEY get things wrong.
God using a fat, balding, alcoholic who thumbed his nose at the Prohibition rules. I wish I was a cop back then, and I caught him drinking. I promise he'd never drink again.
Calling us "apostates" with the same venom as if they called all the fine ladies here on the forum "sluts". They said name-calling was a sign that the person had no chance of winning an argument, so they resort to name-calling.
DF'ing people and breaking up families, causing some young ones to commit suicide. I actually told the Judicial Committee that if my child died from suicide or malnutrition like Karen Carpenter did, that the three of them would join her shortly. And please, even the ones who are against the WT, don't flame me for the threat. I will say that four elders, one asst. CO, and one CO told me that if the same thing happened to THEIR children, they'd "grab the nearest shotgun and take care of business no matter how long I'd be in prison". Their exact words. I had a few sisters tell me the same thing. And all 30 of the computer instructors under my supervision at the tech school told me they'd kill anyone who hurt their child that way.
Another things was their bashing Ray's books. I read them both. I particularly liked CoC. I'm a writer myself and I've rarely seen a book written with such clarity, honesty, lack of malice, etc. Ray deserved his day in court, which he didn't get in Bethel. Cases used to be heard in the city gates. Now those slimeballs meet at midnight and do "their deeds of darkness".
