suicide and explosion at Kingdom Hall on Sat. July 27

a bizarre explosion at a church east of kansas city killed one man on saturday afternoon.

atf agents said the explosion at the jehovah's witness' kingdom hall on foggy bottom drive was intentionally set, and that the person who died appears to have committed suicide.

witnesses described large amounts of smoke pouring out of the building, which they said was just recently completed.

I have a friend who quit the JW's 30 years ago. She works for the gov't. If she gives me any facts, I'll pass them on. This is really tragic.

In all seriousness, can anyone help me with this? I'm trying to ascertain how many JW's have committed suicide, whether by state, by country, by year, whatever. In writing my book I want to focus heavily on this aspect. It is one of the most tragic consequences of being in this cult, or rather should I say, being thrown out of this cult, seeing that most suicides occur AFTER the poor victim has been given the boot.

Thanks for posting the summary. It's sad that a concept (religion is good, God is a "happy" God, and people should be happier with it than without) can be so easily compromised by mentioning the negative as often as the positive. That pretty much says it all about the WT from a psychological point of view.

It's a shame hardly any JW's even recognize the fact that in their haste to run a Gestapo cult and to find all the verses they can that THEY think support that way of thinking, the WT totally fails to have happy and well-adjusted adherents.

They often quote Jesus when he said "wisdom is proved righteous by its works". Yet their works are negative and self-destructive. Most JW's I know have serious mental problems.

And that quote about the Greeks?? That is over the top. It's similar to one talk I heard (KH, CA, DC, I don't remember) where they actually said Satan helped engineers invent things like the VCR, computers, etc., in order to mislead God's people. The writers of these talks entered the realm of lunacy many decades ago and keep going in deeper all the time.

Terry: More excellent work as usual. However, being a musician for over 50 years, I will always like your musical compositions and your sense of humor best. You are very gifted.

It's funny, but I never really saw how the WT looked to the public until I told the elders where to go and quit. They are NOT a religion. They are a CULT. And to be more accurate, the closest definition that fits them IS that they are a very large corporation whose main product is publications. The fact that the TOPIC or THEME of those publications just happens to be religious is just a coincidence and it is immaterial when considering their conduct as JW's, to other JW's, to those who left or were DF'd, and to the public. They are like annoying and inept vacuum cleaner salesmen who won't stop coming to your door once a month to sell you a Kirby for just $100 dollars and then after you buy it, they sell you the switch to turn it on for $900 more.

It's the same with study/baptism. They love you while you are studying, hide their history, and once you take that special "bath", you are in for good (or else). I don't know one single person who ever got baptized due to the example Rutherford set.

To Sweetstuff: I share your opinion. Let's find Marty McFly from Back to the Future and borrow his time machine. I'll hold him and you hit him. He was a drunken bully and a demented mental case. One of my college psych books, "Abnormal Psychology", briefly mentioned his type. He was well over 6 feet tall but always had a few "bodyguards" with canes walking at his side. Whatever happened to "turn the other cheek"?

It amazes me that JW's think the entire world is insane if they don't become JW's and even more insane if they ever were JW's and quit. Well, it shouldn't surprise anyone. They have up to 40 times more mental illnesses than the population in general. I think that says it all.

Why i liked being a Jehovah's Witness...

there are so many reasons why i liked being a jehovahs's witness.

1. we got to count time when we share our faith with nonbelievers or our young children.

2. we didn't have to go to college to get a good job as a janitor or a window washer.

I also enjoyed the luxurious hotels we got to stay at for summer conventions. What fun it was to come back to the hotel after a day in the heat in Philly, PA, and walk right past a beautiful empty swimming pool, but not have time to use it. After all, we had to review our notes from that day's assembly right after dinner. We also didn't get to watch the cable TV because all the things on it, except the Weather Channel, were wicked.

We didn't have to wonder if maybe the Catholics were correct when they made that ridiculous claim that God spoke through THEIR leader, the Pope, because WE already knew God only spoke through OUR leader(s). No more confusion.

Tread: Yes, some survive a bullet to the head. And Losch said some survive college. I have news for Losch. Most college graduates are happier and more stable than thos who don't attend college. I am not saying you guys have a problem if you didn't go to college. I mean the ones he's talking about. And now, since they have no education and work for peanuts, will they SURVIVE recessions, not finding work, etc.???

Oh, wait. I'm worrying for no reason. I'll just ask my HEART what I should do: go to college, join the national guard, enlist in the Marines, or rob a bank. Should I expect some good advice from the heart? How do I tell? I have high blood pressure. If it goes up, it's "YES", and if it stays normal, it's "NO". That's fair, I would think. And if the heart can't decide or if it's a tie because there are FOUR chambers in the heart and 2 could have said yes and the other two said no. I think the kidneys are involved in our lives much more than just for digestive reasons. I only hope THEY don't have a tie, since there are two kidneys. This is getting too much, I'll stop. Flipping a coin is probably more likely to show me God's true feelings on any issue. That is, as long as I put it in the money box at the hall.

I like some of the GB's idiotic definitions and rules. They are always good for a laugh.

How you are viewed by others? Well, let's look at Jesus. Most people in his day (Jewish leaders, Romans, some rich and arrogant Jews, etc.) hated him to death. In fact, that's exactly how much they hated him. Condemning an innocent man to death to serve their own agendas. SSoOOOO - If Jesus was despised, hit, mocked and so forth, are we to conclude that Jehovah felt the same contempt for his only son? Don't think so...............

What about an elder who is having an affair for many months. Since the congregation doesn't know, they treat him with respect, obedience, and reverence. But since God knows what he's doing, I don't think he is as happy with the elder as the elder's wife, kids, and the congregation members are. Now that's two examples of the utter stupidity of that comment.

"God is love"? I can't think of another religious group that is more cruel to its members than the WT is. That's really shameful seeing how much they brag about loving each other and loving people enough to go door to door to save them. Of course, this "love" ends when the Bible study doesn't learn to "obey" the WT literature soon enough.

Losch: College hurts you like a bullet in the head?? Jesus, where do they find these lunatics. I think if we analyze what Losch said about college and all the other gems he's come out with, I'd venture a guess that Losch actually WAS shot in the head at some point. He may have survived enough to walk around and find his room at Bethel when it's time for bed, but with comments like that about college, it's obvious that he's jealous or is misinformed about how much education matters in today's job market. He also says we can't tell you what to do nor are we willing to do so. Like hell. The WT has an opinion on EVERYTHING in a JW's life. They "ARE" masters of everyone's faith, including the anointed from around the world whose writings and other material submitted to Bethel is basically ignored.

His talk said that many have quit college when they learned the truth, even if they only had a little bit left, maybe a month or two. He's actually proud of those students, and probably also proud of himself as is the GB in general. I hope I don't offend anyone here, and sometimes people can't finish college all the time, by in most instances, I would say that if a person quit college with 6 weeks left and wasted all that time and money, and lost the opportunity to support himself, then that student is an idiot. And that makes the GB members complete morons for ruining the lives of thousands of families. If they had to pay all their bills, they'd sing a different tune. It's easy to bully people when all the money you need is yours. Didn't the WT used to own a yacht?? In any case, the college dropout might very well be asking "do you want fries with that" for a very long time. And to think that this dropout will have a crappy job for 50 years maybe (with tons of overtime) that will end up taking more time than if he had just done the 6 weeks left in college. Look how hard his parents worked to put him thru college. God, it just staggers the mind.

Yourmamma: Good point. I hope God and Jesus practice in Heaven how to act on Earth and what to tell the GB. Trust the GB??? Even teenagers know better. But God doesn't? Sure, sure. Why shouldn't we trust them. They've never let us down, have they??

Just finished our District Convention

"Trust in the resurrection." Yeah, right.

First, looking ahead with an almost enthusiastic to dying, is a sick and twisted way to live. I once saw a zealous brother, while placing the blue Truth book, harp on how glad the JW's were to see the time fly by since they'd be in Paradise soon. The non-JW asked, "Why do you people "wish" your lives away?" A lot of wisdom in that question.

The second point I'd like to make is my suspicion that the WT is preparing the rank and file for more failed predictions about Armageddon. First of all, this is a sick way to bring up children with all this doom and gloom. The JW's are no longer able to stop and admire a mountain lake, sunset, etc. They'll too busy wishing they'd die in their sleep or that when they are out in field service and they go to Dunkin' Donuts to have their Bible study with the cashier (heavy sarcasm there), that they will choke to death on a 4 pound donut filled with creme and covered in chocolate. Yes, we have to care for our gift of live from the Creator.

Now, dying in the assembly hall. The last thing the JW's need is to bring bodies out of the hall to the ambulance waiting outside. The cops will be trying to see what happened. Did they die of old age? Sickness? Boredom and their brain melted? Were they taken in the back room because they were apostates sitting there as spies and 5 big elders beat them up? Or did they have a part on the program and then later on God struck them down dead because they lied? Dying at a meeting is something I don't see why they want it. It would be better at home if possible with family.

****** My main suspicion is that the JW's are being set up for another prediction cop-out. If Armageddon is around the corner, why tell people to hint that the resurrection will be the only way ANY JW now living will see daylight again. If Armageddon is coming within a year, why should JW's buy burial plots and plan to die in the far future, especially if they are teens now. Jesus, what a crock. Will these people ever stop lying??

Hi Satanus: It does seem like God throws some dice and picks. The funny part is that the CO's and elders also pick and choose. They always choose the ones who live their lives EXACTLY as they are told. What good little robot's they are!! No moustache (often) skirt way long enough, blouse buttoned at neck, "proper" haircuts, and if the couple is engaged and being interviewed, don't touch each other, not even a hand. Use the speaker to pass things to each other. And of course, during this "spontaneous" speaking or story telling, make sure you don't look at your notes too much. After all, you should be gushing and bubbling over as you tell everyone about your joy.

I never thought of it this way, but when you think about it, most teenagers in the USA have more freedom of thought and other choices than a married couple in their 60's. If they had grandchildren who were NOT being raised as JW's, those kids would have more rights and freedoms that adults. It's a little scary. But most of all it's sad and twisted. How can children grow up properly with robot-like zombies for parents and grandparents. In my book that's child abuse.

My main concern is the abuse situation since my child was a victim and my marriage ended in divorce. I was the biggest apostate in NJ, and now I'm steadily working to be the number one apostate here in Florida. I put the flag outside every day (Dad was a Marine in WW2. I go to Christmas parties. I say "gesundheit" when people sneeze. This all sounds silly, but it's a pattern of behavior that we need to develop now that we are free.

Bonafide, it's good to see you here. You made many good points. The others here know more about keeping your secret safe than I do so please let them help you. In my case, I've left so many clues, Inspector Clusause (sp?) should be able to ID me. They either DF'd me and didn't tell me or they don't want the fight, grief, wasting time, and most of all they don't want the financial and publicity bloodshed that they know I'll give them if they play games or try to turn my daughter against me.

I also loved your story. You told it very well and you're quite insightful. The girl not mentioning college? "Theocratic lying by omission". They all knew damn well how that would look. Hypocrites. Call 911? (They'd never get it right, after pushing "9", they'd probably spend 20 minutes looking for the "11" button.) From where? Certainly not from those cell phones that they shouldn't own because they are "inventions by Satan to distract us from serving Jehovah". Along with TV's, VCR's, computers (very wicked, it actually lets you read something worthwhile in life that you'd never see in the mags), two door cars, and overtime on your job. I don't know how Satan invented all that, but I bet he's rich from the royalties on his patent.

Weird questions? I guess so! Anyone who thinks on his own and uses common sense is going to be weird. They rarely see it. Like here in Florida if a few snowflakes come down once every 10 winters. Dying at the assembly?? I could choke on my coffee from laughing. When the ambulance showed up, someone would probably try to place literature with the medical staff as they load up the sick or the dead body. I certainly hope if I ever died at an assembly that they'd show more respect than they do. The attendant captain would probably tell them to sit me up in a seat in the back row. Oh, no, the front is better. I'd blend right in: not moving, staring at the speaker (no blinking), sitting up stiff with proper posture as rigor mortus set in. Yeah, that I'd like to see.

I was so glad that you spoke with that elder. It probably meant the world to him that you apologized and showed you valued him. Most CO's I've met are arrogant, snotty, and sarcastic. (I can do sarcastic too.) We had a Bro. Conti in NJ for awhile. He'd yell at the attendants to sit down when they were counting people. His best line was, "You know, I could be retired in Florida right now. I didn't have to do this. But we must serve God." I sure hope I don't bump into him.

Hi Flipper: The God damn power went off while I was answering these posts. Here in Florida, palm tree branches blow into wires once a week and short them out for a few minutes. I think I remember the talk.

Anyway, aside from every single member of the GB being a bonafide psychopath, they continue to violate Bible principles more each day. Threatening the world and JW's with a horrible death if they don't tap dance to the raving and psychotic dreams of a bunch of idiots. Jesus, how f***ing stupid can men be who have lived 70 or 80 years?? When I think of how many lives they have ruined, it makes my blood boil. I try not to believe in violence even though I'm Sicilian and have a temper with bullies, I have repeated said that IF 9/11 HAD TO HAPPEN, I wish the planes had missed the towers and hit Bethel. I'm sorry, but that's my opinion. If 3,000 people had to die, let it be those who make policy, approve of raping children (including 6 month old infants and I'm ready to vomit right now), and have any part in making books or articles that the JW's read later on. I watched the towers burn all day (I was in NJ then) and at 8 pm the smoke was drifting down the length of Long Island. I knew then how bad it was. Oh, and I heard this from a reliable source. For those who don't know the city, the towers weren't too far from the Brooklyn Bridge and the WT is right on the other side near the bridge. People were streaming over the bridge covered with dust, some couldn't breath or hardly walk. They needed clean air and water. The WT locked its doors when they saw what was happening. I know a JW who works in the city who was 8 blocks away when the towers went. He told me he tried to get in but was locked out. So why does the WT brag about being first in helping hurricane victims, etc.??

The point?? JW's also wish for innocent people to die, and to die in pain and agony. If God is so smart (I'm agnostic and will try not to offend those who believe) why can't he just blink his eyes or do a "I dream of Jeannie" nose thingie and all the bad guys just evaporate?? Can't God manage anti-matter? He has to have some angel or JW or a Star Wars probe go to each bad guy and shoot a ray gun in their face? In the Creation book, Rutherford claimed outer space was filled with ether. The knowledge of science at Bethel is pathetic. I swear, a ten year old is smarter.

What about Jesus saying to pray for your enemies? And not to gloat over the misfortunes of others? I could understand JW's enjoying the death of people in town who abused them (so what, they asked for it) and slammed doors in their faces. Understand, but not approve, they are still lunatics. But to gloat over the death of a baby or toddler just because her parents were not JW's is asinine. What about the son not paying for the sins of the father and so forth? How does the WT manage to use the verses they need and when I bring out the verses to disprove them, they call me the devil.

A sister asked a CO once back in 1977 in front of me how God could kill one billion people in China when the leaders won't allow JW's to preach and many people live in such remote places, you could never find them. His answer was "Community responsibility". I swear, that's what the jackass said. Like a bunch of 80 year old women planting rice and having no electric, water, TV, or internet are supposed to have had a fair exposure to "the truth"?? Are they supposed to form an army and attack the military?? Fifty or sixty 90 year old women with wooden sticks march up to 20 army tanks and manage to open the hatch, kill the soldiers, and capture the tanks, driving them home until needed again. Flipper, do you think they will win??

How can God punish 3 billion people who never heard of JW's? Why does a toddler who dies one hour before Armageddon get resurrected, but one who is still alive when the bell goes off dies if her parents are not JW's?? Oh, I see, that's really fair. Maybe some type of "theocratic warfare". Would the angel get a Purple Heart after slaughtering all the babies in the local hospital who are sick? Who could possibly defend such bullshit?

Hitler is supposed to be back and cured of his mental illness, according to a CO talk 20 years ago. But we here have doubts and Silent Lambs is inundated with emails from victims of abuse, will die IF we are DF'd at the time. And the congregation clapped when he said it during the talk. I felt like taking a half dozen "brothers" outside for a little lesson in mercy. (As in I wouldn't give them any.)

I know this is a bit long and with some variety, but I lived very near Bethel for 50 years and knew some GB members. Jaracz is the worst. An arrogant SOB who thinks the arrangement is Jehovah God, Jesus, some special angels (remember, they're not all the same), then himself, then the GB, and so forth. I wouldn't be surprised if he thought he was one of the 12 elders in heaven.

Well, I guess I better go buy a radiation mask and a ray gun. Maybe I can defend myself and take a few of them with me. My best to all.
