Good point, HappyDad, that young ones, regardless of education, are leaving. A thing I don't understand (well, I guess I kinda do since it is an archaic, male run cult) is that, why do they think parents should have iron fist control over children who have reached adulthood and making their own decisions, why are they holding them responsible for what adult children do? If they are living at home and parents paying tuition, maybe, but I think so many of those chosing to use their brains and pursue an education have flown the nest. Ironically, some of my cousins who now shun me from family activities, their children have gone to college, all the while living at home! What a bunch of hypocrites! Geez, don't get me started.

by XBEHERE ina friend of mine recently had his co visit and in the elders meeting the co out-right asked the question: how are the friends doing in your cong.

So happy we can let our children enjoy the "normal" activities of childhood we missed. My parents joined the cult when I was 10, so don't what is worse: never having things in the first place, or having it yanked away. (I think maybe having it yanked away?) Like your little guy, my grown up daughter always says she feels sorry for me and how I grew up missing so much.

It is going away very soon and I dont know what to replace it with. I have checked out various suggestions on discussion sites but none sound good. I have tried chrome and hate it, maybe I just cant figure out how to navigate it yet, but I'm afraid to click on where it says to transfer my bookmarks. I am afraid I'll lose everything. Any computer experts out there with helpful suggestions? Thanks

A major change in the new song book I initially overlooked
by slimboyfat init occurred to me the other day that i am beginning to forget the tunes to all the old kingdom songs i once knew by heart.
so i have started recording myself singing a few of my favourites from the old song book and uploading them to youtube.
and it struck me as i was singing them how many of the old songs have a military theme running through them, with references to warfare, soldiers, weapons and so on.

Holy Crap, Tim Hooper. I have been out for 29 years and the sound of that dirge gives me the creeps. It's like something out of a classic horror flick! I could only listen to half of it. There is nothing uplifting, bright or cheerful that goes on at the Kingdom Hall. If the constant berating of not doing enough doesn't make you feel down trodden enough, the music will.

Would You Shun Your Own Son or Daughter For A Million Dollars for the rest of your life??
by Narcissistic Supply insimply for the money..

What this thread is showing, (aside from the tongue in cheek comments) is that a NORMAL parent would not shun their child for anything, even a very large amount of money. However, JWs are willing to do just that, at the drop of a hat, no questions asked, because some old farts in Brooklyn tell them to. If that ain't cult behavior, I don't know what is!

Gaslighting Your Brain, Watchtower Style.
by Narcissistic Supply ingaslightingfrom wikipedia, the free encyclopediagaslighting is a form of mental abuse in which false information is presented with the intent of making a victim doubt his or her own memory, perception andsanity.
[1] instances may range simply from the denial by an abuser that previous abusive incidents ever occurred, up to the staging of bizarre events by the abuser with the intention of disorienting the victim.. the term "gaslighting" comes from the play gas light and its film adaptations.
the term is now also used in clinical and research literature.[2][3].

Blondie, yes, I love that movie. Joseph Cotten was the one who rescued her. I didnt know Gaslighting had become an accepted term, but it really makes sense doesn't it and fits so well with JWs. They are taught things that dont make sense but believe it anyway.

Santa Claus doesn't threaten to kill you or have family shun you if you no longer believe in him. Songs about Santa are way more cool than Kingdom Songs.
