Come with me, back to the 1980s--you know want to.
by FlyingHighNow ini don't know about ya'll, but i did not appreciate the 1980s enough.
i was too busy lamenting how different they were from the 1960s and 1970s to bask in and appreciate how wonderful they were.. this is 80s music, especially new wave music, and 80s fashion and culture appreciation thread.
what did you love about the 80s?

My life changed big time in the 80's. I learned to drive, I was 30 believe it or not I waited that long, and for some reason got in to country music. Driving and country music seemed to go together, and no I wasn't driving a pickup truck. I think I got into country because as a child of the 60's with the Beatles and the British Invasion music that I loved, 70's rock music was just too loud and radical for me and I had stopped listening. Country seemed close to light rock. That also seemed the time when country was still country before so many cross over people started calling themselves country. But I did like some rock like Hootie and the Blowfish and I am really happy that the voice of that group, Darius Rucker, is now doing country. I also admit to liking Michael Jackson, but never, ever believed he was a practicing JW!
It was in 1984 that my JW hubby found another younger JW sweetie and I was on my own after 12 years of faithful wifedom. Went back to work, met new non-JW hubby, had my daughter and have never looked back. So while the 80's were briefly a bit of turmoil for me, they were also my years of freedom from the JWs.

What will you do to celebrate Oct 2 2014?
by jwfacts inlike most people reading this, i was convinced that by 2014 the new system would 'definitely' have been operating for at least a decade.
now that i know this is not going to be the case i am going to have to think of some way to recognise 100 years of wts let downs and failed predictions.
there is no point fretting over the past so i think it will be a good time to celebrate.

Gonna make spaghetti and garlic bread for supper, sipping my favorite Jack-O Traveler Pumpkin Shandy. Then gonna laugh as the Detroit Tigers get their butts kicked in game 1 of the AL Division series.

Reddit Has Done a Great Job Lately at Exposing the Watchtower to Millions
by Emery in1.5 months ago there was a perfectly timed reddit topic about jw false prophecies that made it on to the front page of reddit.
this certainly didn't bold so well fortheir historic campaign.
the front-page of reddit had over 135 million unique visitors last month.

Wow, had never seen Reddit before, but scrolling down through the comments, I think more people have a handle on JW craziness that I realized. You think most people just think of them as "that religion that doesnt celebrate Christmas or salute the flag", but its good to see that more people are becoming familiar with how bat sh** crazy they are!

You dont realize what a blessing good neighbors are until you have bad ones. We have been blessed for 30 years with helpful, quiet, non intrusive neighbors. Good for you and have a great get away!

Plastic buckets in Paradise
by Sour Grapes ini remember one picture of a pretty little girl holding a plastic bucket in paradise next to a tame lion.. i asked my wife if there is going to be polution in paradise?
of course the answer is no!!!!!..
i asked her where did the plastic bucket come from?

Yeah, when I was growing up, anytime there was a question about paradise, they always said Jehovah will take care of it in a twinkling of the eye. Like, don't worry about it, don't speculate, just pick out the house that will be yours in the new system as you go from door to door in the upscale neighborhoods.

TimeBandit So sorry for your loss. Don't know where you live, but there are many, many vets around here and I know for a fact some of them make house calls to do what is needed with a very large dog. My daughter is a pet sitter and I work part time for her. One of her very first clients was a gi-normous Great Dane, Kaiser, a mottled grey color. He is the sweetest, most loving dog. I thought I would be afraid of him the first time I had to take care of him on my own, but for whatever reason he likes me and is always very protective of me. He sticks to me like glue when we are out, almost unbalancing me, but whatever, he is so funny. I am on the short side so we are almost eye to eye, ha. His mommy says he does the same to her, so that is a compliment.
Obviously we are animal lovers, we have several cats and through the years have had to make the very difficult decision. This past year several of my daughters clients have had their pets pass and believe me, when they call to let us know, we grieve along with them for the loss of a sweet friend. I believe it shows the true character of a person in how they feel about and care for animals. Silly as it may seem, I like to buy into the idea that many of my sweet kitties are waiting on the Rainbow Bridge for me!

Just saw where he died today. He was an Ohio congressman who served time in prison on several federal charges, including tax evasion and dealings with mobsters. He had a very colorful career. Too bad, he was only 73, could have lived many more years in quiet retirement. But hey, according to the dubs, he will be resurrected because he died before the big A.
