They classify social isolation as bullying, yet anyone who has grown up as a JW knows that is what is expected of a young JW: no worldy association. Therefore, when you are in high school and are not allowed to participate in sports or clubs or go to the dances or prom, and you wait outside the classroom in the hallway while the national anthem is played on Monday morning, or you sit in the cafeteria (with students who have detention) during a sports pep assembly because the alma mater will be played...yeah, I would call that social isolation imposed by the Watchtower. Nearly 50 years out of school and I still remember how much that stinks. -

So sorry for your situation James. How did they have the nerve to print that Awake a few years back that said no one should have to choose between their family or religion. How do they rationalize that? -

I am not nor ever have been in this situation, nevertheless I have read all these posts and think there is some great advice here coming from ones who are or have been in your place. Coming across strong is making time to do fun, normal things with your kids. Boundaries must also be set as to the level of indoctrination you will allow (they are your kids too). Be cautious of how others at the KH may influence them or speak negatively of you. And, try to find times to volunteer with them to help others and be around good, kind hearted "wordly" people so they can see for themselves that non JWs are not scary evil people. It's not an enviable position you are in but sounds like you've got a handle on it and stick with it. -

Children, you can go to Bethel when you grow up!

Wow, what can be said after watching one of these stupid videos. Not too long ago the borg heavily criticized churches for having anything geared toward children, now they come up with this heavy handed propaganda. Would anyone be surprised if they started a "Sunday School" type class to heavily indoctrinate the young ones at a level where they could be certain the fear mongering and loyalty mantra is reaching those young gray cells.😞 -

45 Minute Bethel Video about Changes (downsizing) at Watchtower
by OnTheWayOut ini don't see this posted elsewhere, and i don't have the links besides this facebook one.. but here is a 45-minute long bethel talk about the changes at bethel including addressing the hard feelings of people who were given the axe.
basically, everything must change.
we gave remaining bethelites saturday off to do our bidding in "the field" and we give bethelites over 70 an extra day a week off (if you can find any such bethelites).

Lieu has an excellent point: use the extra cash to pay living expenses for these ones and not a penny more of anything extra being sent to HQ cause there won't be any leftover! -

Are these older ones really literally being turned out with nothing and no arrangements made for them? I mean, where are they spending their first night out, do any even have cars or money saved to rent a room or what is the nitty gritty of this? (Not that I have any real sympathy, sorry to say). But what are these expected to do? Anyone here know of an actual case you could relate would be interesting to hear about. -

Are the anointed really "lovely people"?
by purrpurr ini've personally never met any of those who claim to be anointed but the other jw's who have are always unanimous in their praise of how lovely and what wonderful people they are.
and i don't mean the gb i mean common or garden anointed.
i was told that when they speak about being in heaven that they almost "seem to glow".. is this right?

Growing up in the 60s our cong had 2, elderly man and woman. Both were foreign and could speak and read English but could be barely understood when they spoke. Lady was a widow and was taken care of by family but man was alone in the world and will have to say, cong looked after him and provided him a trailer in walking distance of KH. They were in their 80s so probably were original Bible Students or whatever they were called back then. They were mostly respected because of their age I would imagine. Then I remember a couple younger unstable real nut jobs who would partake on and off. One guy was schizophrenic, thought the government was after him, spying and so forth. Even had his mail delivered to someone else's house. Sounds like that is the type mostly partaking now from the experiences here. -

Update on my recently disfellowshipped niece
by keyser soze ini had posted about a month ago that my niece, who just turned 15, was getting disfellowshipped.
i learned this past weekend that she tried to commit suicide.
between being df'd, and her dad not being around, it became too much for her.

Had a weird love-bombing throwback today......
by dubstepped inmy wife is having her first birthday party in july, and we're looking for a place to hold it.
we found an episcopal church online that offered their fellowship hall for such occasions, and we went to check it out this morning.
when we arrived they were having something in the hall and were setting up for it.

What a sweet thought: "Most people never remember their first birthday", but your wife will get to remember hers! 🎂 Happy early birthday to her.
