Correct me if I'm wrong but the ARC has never suggested that the WT had a policy intentionally, proactively designed to harm children as the above article suggests. I'm no fan of 'the truth' but I am a big fan of truth. The truth about WT policy is damning enough without this kind of extrapolation. What are your thoughts?

Do most ex JW's go politically left?
by Lightgrowsbrighter ini've found it interesting that- imho- most of the politically vocal ex-jw's at this website seem to lean left.
i'm personally pretty centered- right on some issues, left on others, but overall have a pretty cynical view of all political/religious leaders.
i find it somewhat ironic that people who leave such a dogmatic group like the witnesses become so politically dogmatic.

A lefty before, during and after. Not far left, social dem/progressive with a dash of liberalism/libertarianism. Here in the UK, JWs seem to be left when it comes to economic inequality but in every other way they are very conservative, being to the right of the Tories imho. -

the vast majority stay in because of family, friends, ignorance and a lack of caring about any of the facts regarding the "truth".
many people are lazy.

I never believe the whole Daniel to 1914 thing. I have almost no recollection of my baptism questions except for when the 1914 doctrine came up, I remember having to lie about accepting it.
A few years latter I studied psychology at night school (which was discouraged of course) and was introduced to the concept of cognitive dissonance. That was the start of my personal 'enlightenment' and not just about 1914 or other points of doctrine but values and ethics too.

What would happen if you started calling jw's "sheep" rather than brother or sister?
by purrpurr infollowing on from the excellent thread started by open mind.... rather than calling the cult members brother smith etc what about calling them "sheep smith".

My RC hearing brought forward. Will be in two weeks

initially i was slated for next year, but will be attending in two weeks time.
all is in place from travel vouchers, support, where to go ............very efficient and well done.

In the UK we have something called CRB checks. It means that if you got for a job in Education, social services or the NHS or anything to do with care or contact with children or vulnerable adults you have to have a background check. All religious groups should be forced to comply with this standard at their cost. So any JW that goes out knocking doors should have an up to date CRB check just like you would expect from a teacher or scout leader. -

Crazyguy makes a good point. Then Paul came along and said yeh Jesus was right but may I add that we must uphold bit of the old testament stuff, effectively contradicting Jesus. There is a big difference from what Jesus reportedly said and Pauline Christianity. Of course none of it is worth a wank not least because it contradicts itself all the time.

has anyone else had the misfortune to come across him (or her?
