All JWs need to watch this great documentary...it may give them pause for thought.
by deanxxx ini know how hard it is to awaken people still inside the cult bubble.
there are many reasons for this, chief among them the unwillingness to read or watch anything critical of their religion.
on the other hand, jws love few things more than hearing bad stuff about other faith groups.

Haha...Just got to 1hr 10mins in. Lol, it's worth watching the film just to hear Jeffs destroy Bob Dylan. -

With that in mind, maybe one 'tactic' could be to show JW family/friends documentaries like the recent 'Prophet's Prey' (2015) about the psychopathic, sexual predatory, paedophilic recidivist scumbag Warren Jeffs and the FLDS church. Just maybe, for a moment, they will look inwards and notice some uncomfortable similarities. After all, daring to think the unthinkable is what made me start asking questions.
Anyway, if you haven't seen the film it's well worth a watch. It's sickening of course but also, in many ways quite familiar.
The excellent movie 'Spotlight' could be worth a go too.

What made you turn atheist or agnostic?
by LevelThePlayingField inif you were a jw and are now an atheist or agnostic, what was the tipping point that made you turn to it?.
the reason i ask is i have noticed that many who leave the jw's seem to turn to atheism, versus still having some form of a faith.
have many of you given up on god first or have you had atheistic views first and then found atheism to be true.

For me, finding out the evolution/creation book which I keenly studied was full of problems, misquotes, bad science and outright lies. Researching 1975 was a eye opener too. Further study with greater objectivity meant I could no longer follow the bible let alone a religion. Also, some of the WT values conflicted with my liberal/left leaning values but it was loss of belief in god that really did it for me. -

OK friends lets be honest, if a Nuclear Holocaust took place today how many of you would return to the KH?
by James Mixon inspeaking for my self, no way in hell.. this question to see if you really have been deprogramed,.
do you 100% believe it is not the truth.. a fourth of the world hit by a nuclear attack..

Don't they believe that an all out nuclear war is pretty much guaranteed never to happen? I don't know how they arrived at that conclusion but I seem to remember them making that claim. While nuclear weapons exist, the probability of an all out nuclear war happening is greater than zero. -

Is Stefan Molyneux a dangerous cult leader
by slimboyfat ina guy on youtube who got popular spouting ideas on social and political issues, molyneux gained additional notoriety when he started encouraging people to cut off their natural families.
some followers took his advice seriously, and mums crying about the consequences have gone to the media to tell their story.
it's interesting how this resembles and also differs from jw shunning.

I had the misfortune of stumbling across him a few years ago on youtube. Took an instant dislike to him. Alarm bells went off. Total narcissist imo. I'm not surprised to hear what he's up to now. A massively odious creature.

Child Sexual Abuse and Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Rules – Part 1 of Gumshoe’s Royal Commission Series
by OrphanCrow inchild sexual abuse and jehovahs witnesses rules part 1 of gumshoes royal commission series.
this is a fairly lengthy article describing and examining the royal commission in australia.. the author ends the article with this:.
in general, we see, from watchtower australia, how depriving a person of fellowship was seen as a severe punishment.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the ARC has never suggested that the WT had a policy intentionally, proactively designed to harm children as the above article suggests. I'm no fan of 'the truth' but I am a big fan of truth. The truth about WT policy is damning enough without this kind of extrapolation. What are your thoughts? -

Do most ex JW's go politically left?
by Lightgrowsbrighter ini've found it interesting that- imho- most of the politically vocal ex-jw's at this website seem to lean left.
i'm personally pretty centered- right on some issues, left on others, but overall have a pretty cynical view of all political/religious leaders.
i find it somewhat ironic that people who leave such a dogmatic group like the witnesses become so politically dogmatic.

A lefty before, during and after. Not far left, social dem/progressive with a dash of liberalism/libertarianism. Here in the UK, JWs seem to be left when it comes to economic inequality but in every other way they are very conservative, being to the right of the Tories imho. -

How Many JWs Really Believe Everything They Are Told?
by minimus ini think that 80% of jws do not truly believe in what they are taught .
the vast majority stay in because of family, friends, ignorance and a lack of caring about any of the facts regarding the "truth".
many people are lazy.

I never believe the whole Daniel to 1914 thing. I have almost no recollection of my baptism questions except for when the 1914 doctrine came up, I remember having to lie about accepting it.
A few years latter I studied psychology at night school (which was discouraged of course) and was introduced to the concept of cognitive dissonance. That was the start of my personal 'enlightenment' and not just about 1914 or other points of doctrine but values and ethics too.

In the UK we have something called CRB checks. It means that if you got for a job in Education, social services or the NHS or anything to do with care or contact with children or vulnerable adults you have to have a background check. All religious groups should be forced to comply with this standard at their cost. So any JW that goes out knocking doors should have an up to date CRB check just like you would expect from a teacher or scout leader.
