hi all.. so i had a jw visit me at home accusing me of telling stories about another jw.

i said something to a friend in a private message on facebook who went on to share what i said with a jw (third party) who then shared it with another jw (fourth party).

my question is.

pbrow: I hear you but it's a little more complicated by good friends and family being involved etc. Hard to explain without going into detail. Anyway, it'll just be a storm in a tea cup.
AnneB: Nonsense. 1) I did show the JW the door once it was apparent that they were not interested in my side of the story. Btw, it gets complicated by the fact that it is someone who has always been great to me, a good friend, not like your usual JW. 2) How am I looking for someone to do fighting? I'm interested in the FB rules to remind meddling JWs that there are rules and common courtesies that are important. Straighten out my mess? You seem to be too ready to jump to conclusions also. The point in the OP was that I'm not guilty of the things I'm been accused of. Was that not clear? Btw, I'm not gonna sue anyone just wanted to know the rules on privacy. Nowt unreasonable about knowing your rights, right?

ToesUp: It's so disgusting, I don't miss that in the slightest bit. I mentioned it to a relative JW of mine and asked why is it that you say you need a 'suit of armour' when going into 'the world' but actually it seems you need it more at the KH given all the back stabbing, pontificating, virtue signalling and the like?
zeb: yeh facebook can be a nightmare at times but I thinks it's a good thing on balance, for me anyway.
tiki: Maybe the person thinks I'm still that kid who wouldn't stick up for himself. I found my confidence once I left that debilitating organisation. Funny that eh?

Hi all.
So I had a JW visit me at home accusing me of telling stories about another JW. I said something to a friend in a private message on facebook who went on to share what I said with a JW (third party) who then shared it with another JW (fourth party).
My question is. It is illegal or a breach of facebook terms (in the UK) for someone to share my private conversation and messages with other parties?
Of course the JW accusing me didn't seem much interested in my side of the story or in the least bit concerned about my right to privacy when I objected to the violation.
Btw, I left the borg 23 years ago, I thought all this petty nonsense was behind me but it seems not.

It's a tricky one. I do understand as some have already said that showing JWs films about other cults could make them feel better about their own group.
I think kjg123 made an important point. Showing them films about other cults that are very close to their own is probably more effective because, although we can see the similarities between scientology, JWs, FLDS, etc etc each of those groups view the other the same way: they are damned, we are saved because we have the truth - which is another similarity that they (all cults) fail to readily recognise.
People in cults are great at spotting other cults...oh the irony.

talespin: Spotlight is new, I think it's on putlocker but I got it from piratebay. Yeh CBC is great.

Haha...Just got to 1hr 10mins in. Lol, it's worth watching the film just to hear Jeffs destroy Bob Dylan.

I know how hard it is to awaken people still inside the cult bubble. There are many reasons for this, chief among them the unwillingness to read or watch anything critical of their religion. On the other hand, JWs love few things more than hearing bad stuff about other faith groups.
With that in mind, maybe one 'tactic' could be to show JW family/friends documentaries like the recent 'Prophet's Prey' (2015) about the psychopathic, sexual predatory, paedophilic recidivist scumbag Warren Jeffs and the FLDS church. Just maybe, for a moment, they will look inwards and notice some uncomfortable similarities. After all, daring to think the unthinkable is what made me start asking questions.
Anyway, if you haven't seen the film it's well worth a watch. It's sickening of course but also, in many ways quite familiar.
The excellent movie 'Spotlight' could be worth a go too.

What made you turn atheist or agnostic?

if you were a jw and are now an atheist or agnostic, what was the tipping point that made you turn to it?.

the reason i ask is i have noticed that many who leave the jw's seem to turn to atheism, versus still having some form of a faith.

have many of you given up on god first or have you had atheistic views first and then found atheism to be true.

For me, finding out the evolution/creation book which I keenly studied was full of problems, misquotes, bad science and outright lies. Researching 1975 was a eye opener too. Further study with greater objectivity meant I could no longer follow the bible let alone a religion. Also, some of the WT values conflicted with my liberal/left leaning values but it was loss of belief in god that really did it for me.

Don't they believe that an all out nuclear war is pretty much guaranteed never to happen? I don't know how they arrived at that conclusion but I seem to remember them making that claim. While nuclear weapons exist, the probability of an all out nuclear war happening is greater than zero.
