Are Christendoms Sheperds any Better than Witness Sheperds?
by gumby ini've been out since about 1995.......and never had an elder call on me.
not that i desire this....but.. suppose you were an elder in a church of christendom and you were removed because you smoked and they felt you weren't exemplary.
after that, you never went to that church again.

Would they come see you..... or call you do you suppose? I attended a baptist church for about 3 or 4 years and quit when I began to question christianity and the bibles message. Never one call from anyone.
I have to wonder if you had a single friend at the church. I left off attending a Baptist Church because I wanted an environment that was more free. Yes, I was called on, but there was no pressure. Just wondering how I was doing.
How bout you? Are christendoms sheperds any better than dub sheperds?
Depends on the church. Some of them are pretty bad. Some of them have a very warm and supportive environment. There isn't any reasonable comparison to the Dub experience in my opinion because your average vanilla church in the USA doesn't operate like a cult. Probably the most significant difference between the two is that I have noticed people really seem to enjoy attending a church, whereas the average dub is just marking off another meeting and avoiding the guilt of missing a meeting. -

You've been conditioned for a long time to fear the approach of Armageddon. While rationally you don't believe in the Big A anymore, you have truckloads of associated memories and feelings associated with it. Your subconscious is the warehouse of all your memories and feelings of times past. When these old beliefs are mentioned with conviction by a JW, these old feelings can be restimulated briefly. That's all it is.

Ah, but this can work to your advantage. One of these days, you're going to see him out in Service with the group and hopefully his wife will be there. When this day comes, walk up to him with a smile and say "do you remember me?" When he says you look familiar, say "...I'm the woman that you paid $200.00 to, to tie you up and spank you. I'm having a special on this week: Two for the price of one. So if you'd like to bring your wife or your girlfriend, we can maybe work out a deal."
CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!! -

Church of Christ
by TheListener in.
is anyone here associated with a non-denominational church of christ congregation?.
i read the fairly detailed write-up on wikipedia and found it somewhat, key being somewhat, similar to the jws except for the rules and regulations and the strong focus on end times.. it seems like an intriguing religious group.

I don't know, Auldsoul.
I was familiar with the ICOC or The Boston Movement or Kip McKean's version of COC before my Tour of Churches through the book "Combatting Cult Mind Control." I asked if they were affiliated with this group and got strong distasteful replies that they certainly were not. The mere mention of Kip McKean's name caused a strong negative emotional response. One minister told me that branch of COC was "lost."
I'd refer you to this Wikipedia article on Church of Christ. I don't know how reliable the information is. This snippet from the article was pretty much my experience with them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_christ
Today, Churches of Christ have the following distinctive traits: the refusal to hold to any creeds other than those specifically mentioned in the Bible itself; the practice of youth and adult baptism (but not infant baptism) as a requirement for the remission of sins; autonomous non-denominational congregational church organization, with congregations overseen by a plurality of male-only elders; the weekly observance of The Lord's Supper; and the belief in a cappella congregational singing during worship.

Hi Auldsoul,
There is a breakoff group of the Church of Christ that does allow musical instruments, The Independent Christian Churches/Church of Christ. Perhaps this was the one your wife was a part of?
With all the splinter groups it gets a mite confusing.
Like I said, I visited two different COC churches, a very large one and a smaller one. Both were the same in temperment and attitude. Not nearly as much fun as the charismatics who know how to let it loose and have a good time.

The Church of Christ (two of them) was a denomination I spent some time with on Mega's Tour of Churches that I did just to see how the other half lived. The bottom line is there is a strong element of fanaticism in their denomination much like the JWs. For example, they don't allow musical instruments in their church. I asked why and the response was there is no mention of the early Christians using musical instruments in the New Testament. They sing acapella only with a choir on stage at some of the larger COC denominations. (Gee, where have I heard that shallow argument before?)
Also, they don't like divorced people. I was greeted very warmly like I was a long-lost family relative at first. While introducing me around to members of the church, the assistant minister casually asked me about myself and my marital status. I replied that I was a single man, having been divorced a year or so ago. He excused himself almost immediately and walked away as if I was disfellowshipped.
Of the mainstream denominations of Christianity I visited, I found this one to be the most like the JWs. They made the Southern Baptists appear almost carefree.

BIG LIE IN THE BIBLE!
by Gill ingod makes the sun shine and the rain fall on the righteous and the unrighteous!.
that's what it says in the bible, (paraphrased to more or less).
matthew 5 :45. so, that being the case, why does he not make it rain in drought stricken areas?.

There is enough money, food and water to feed everyone and take care of everyone in the world. We just don't.
