Eh, I had several conversations with the author of "The Family Book." In the end, he was all about self-preservation in the JW world even though he didn't believe a lot of what they taught.

Why I suspect most people do not really believe in god
by Elsewhere ingrowing up as a jw i never really believed in god.
i thought everyone else didn't really believe either.
when some sort of religious activity or speak was going on i was just pretending and i thought everyone else was pretending too.

Most JWs really think they believe, but it is more a conditioning. For example, if you debate a JW or challenge their beliefs with facts, they quickly become (A) afraid (B) angry. They are unable to intelligently discuss their beliefs without being overwhelmed with their conditioning which results in them having an emotional reaction which prevents the discussion from continuing. So JWs *think* they really believe what they believe. But if you think everybody is faking their belief in the organization and none of them really believed it, and you weren't a believer and were still zealously bringing people into the grind of what it takes to be a JW, then I would think you fall into a category that is populated by few rather than many.

i need to let you know that dad passed away this morning at 8am.
he fought so hard but in the end they could not get his blood pressure to rise and he died of heart failure.

A little bit of triva. At the end of the film, the blonde girl sitting across from the main star of the film is the real former JW girl upon which the story is based.

what an amazing piece of work!
the portrayal of jesus and judas as men who both wanted freedom from roman rule yet were vastly different in their approach was thought provoking.

The film should be released here next year 2009 through IFC. If you know how to rip a DVD and burn it to make it a region 1 instead of a region 2, you can order it from CDWOW, which is what I did. Subtitles in english.
