  my room mate and i have been discussing the origins of the catholic stance on priests and celibacy.

  we're currently stuck on the concept of peter, the first pope, having been married.

  this kind of throws a kink in their whole foundation imho.

On the contrary, St. Peter was a married man, and St. Paul says that bishops were to have wife and children. (Read 1st Tim. 3:2,5, and 12: Matt 8:14-15)."

  Well, I did like the scene in "Up in Smoke" where Cheech and Chong are trying to drive a truck made out of pressed marijuana over the Mexican border. It catches on fire and Cheech can't help but breathe the smoke some and he gets stoned out of his mind. Heh, heh.

  which leads me to conclude that it is also my own fault that people don't like me very much.. y'all have pretty much seen me at my best and my worst.

  My Dad called

  the other day i sent my family a framed studio photograph that i had made for them.. i called to make sure they got it and my mom said that she did and that it was placed with the other family photos in the living room.. a few days later my dad called to thank me.

  he then went off into a tangent about how he wants me to come back to the "truth".

  i told him that i respect his right to believe as he will, but i expect the same in return.

  Dave,

  I can empathize with you not wanting to ever have to speak to JWs again. But since they know where you are at now, why not have fun with them. Do like I do! Heh, heh. Print a long list off the internet of every ridiculous thing the Watchtower has ever said. I keep mine close to the door. When they call on you, say, "Brothers, I just am confused that the Watchtower is really the truth because of....and hand them the list. Play the confused person who has lost his way and is looking for assistance. Start reading from the list. Do so in a patient, sympathetic way. Watch with amusement as their smiles turn to frowns, the blood drains from their face in fear, and as their eyes grow wide in horror at the VERY IDEA that their God/Watchtower could have uttered such nonsense. Who knows? You may very well plant a seed that may help another unfortunate trapped in the Watchtower to begin his journey out.

  I've been visited a number of times. As I watch the panic begin to grow in their eyes, I always find that therapeutic, and it reminds me how fortunate and glad I am that I'm not on the other side of the door.

  What I've noticed is that many people who exit the Watchtower have such an unpleasant experience with religion or faith that they swing from one extreme to other -- from being highly religious as a JW to becoming agnostic or atheist. For some I've talked to, it seems like a kneejerk reaction. Others have put a lot of research and study into their views, and I respect their reasons. My point in saying I wouldn't let the Watchtower steal anything from me means I won't *necessarily exclude Christianity from being true just because I got conned by Jehovah's Witnesses, who claim to be Christian.*

  I keep an open mind on this subject. That's why I enjoy talking about it at our apostofests. I like to hear other people's opinion about things whether they conflict with my views or not. I thought what you said about getting on with life made a lot of sense. That's why I remembered it. I am currently questioning what my personal "proofs" are for my beliefs. Who knows where I will end up as far as my personal beliefs? This is a road I travel alone. After the Watchtower, I don't feel much like trusting anybody *completely* on the subject of the truth of this life.

  If I didn't believe in God, I think I would pretty much be philosophically in line with Satanists. They don't believe in Satan or God, that man is simply a higher developed animal, and they believe "do what thy will is the whole of the law."
