any other board game fanatics here.. i love them.. favorites are trivial pursuit, risk, masterpiece.. love card games too.
favorites are spades and bridge.. joel
Loved those eight-hour Risk games.
in the past i have sometimes felt like i have to be the 'bad guy', so to speak, because i need to lock or delete topics, deactivate people, try and stop fights and such like - basically, telling people off and not being 'nice'.. well, apart from the odd heated debate and harsh word (and disruptive 'visit') i have not really had a great deal to do for the past month or two and it has been very nice - a pleasure to serve.. so ... i thought i should say a 'thank you' instead of a "stop it!
" for once
And a big mega "Thank you" from Fort Worth/Dallas, Texas, USA. We have a number of ex-JWs here in this area, and we met and connected via this board.
Looking forward to meeting new friends from here in the future.
it strikes me that as witnesses most can find many faults with the world and reasons why they want to be no part of it.. things are often exagerated or demonised in the witneses eyes.. does the same thing happen in reverse when you leave the org?.
do we blow things up out of proportion to how they really are?.
are we really that much happier as people than we were in the org?.
I agree with Naeblis. It depends what you do with your life after the Borg as to whether your life will be better or not
I enjoy my life now that I'm an Ex. I enjoy the more time I have to pursue what pleases me and what is important to me. I enjoy not being surrounded by JW zombies who are filled with fear. I enjoy not selling literature door to door as I did for many years.
From my experience, those who go back never do so because they think it's the truth. It's usually for a spouse or family. The other scenario is they left the JWs and basically screwed up their life. They pursued all the drugs, sex and partying they could. Then one day they woke up and said, "Oh my. My life is crap just like the Watchtower said! I need to go back to the JWs."
well since i've made up my mind to take control of my life by leaving the borg i also want to get myself back in shape.
a few years ago i wass 6'1, about 205 (all muscle) with less than 10% bodyfat.
today lets just say that i need to get back into a serious workout regimine.. .
Ha, ha, Mike.
I remember Hot Stuff. I understand most of it is worthless ingredients, but hype sells, sells, sells in the bodybuilding world.
Some supplements I do like:
Myoplex Lite Chocolate Lovers Pack - protein drinks don't taste good, but this one almost does.
Labrada low-carb protein bars -- when I don't have time for real food, this taste pretty good.
Xtra Fuel by Twin Labs -- when my arse is dragging, and there's not a Starbucks close by, this is a good pick-me-up to keep me going. Basically it's a stimulant.

Naeb,
I like the T mag website, but the reason they hate Bill Phillips so much is because he's so successful. I don't begrudge Phillips his success. He took ideas that had been around a long time and mass marketed the concepts in a brilliant way that made him super rich. (free video, his book, his magazine.) All the Bill Phillips wanna-be's are green with envy and trying to copy him. Sheesh, look at some of the crap T Mag pushes in their supplement line. I do like Phillips' Myoplex Lite protein drink (the multi-chocolate flavor pack only) And I think he presented a way to get fit that was easy to understand for most people. Why someone didn't do it before him, I don't know.
Now, Joe Weider, that's another story. That scumbag (who publishes Muscle & Fitness) uses nothing but steroid-using bodybuilders to promote his product line. Then he has the gall to publish articles that are negative on steroid use. He promotes the concept you can achieve a Mr. Olympia type size using his products and following his workout plan. What a liar he is. At least Bill Phillips promoted average people using a fitness plan that got in shape without dangerous anabolic steroids.

I've met a couple of the Body for Life champions, and they don't agree with the Body for Life suggestion about working out on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. They both told me they had a meal prior to their workout, and didn't eat from an hour to two hours following their workout. Other bodybuilders in the know suggest the same thing. But whatever works for you, works for you. There's not just one program that fits everybody out there.
the society will not and can not allow current levels of defection without sanction.
shunning is their hallmark and what allows members to live in their hypnotic dream-like state, away from the evil informative apostates.. soon they will have to either change their baptism questions again, with the phrasing something like &"only by doing all the things jw in good standing do can we be considered as jw" blah blah blah.
they will then use that as a springboard to da or df members who don't attend meetings.. either that, or they will adopt another one of their stunning resolutions [8>]like they've resolved in the past.
Oh, they're blasts alright. More like the seven big fart blasts after all their prophetic bluster.

Lisa,
Interesting comments. I get the impression that there is a definite leadership vacuum within the Watchtower. Perhaps this has more to do with the rumors of "civil war" that I hear between the conservatives and the liberals at Bethel. I'm sure there are some staunch conservatives who want to tighten the screws and make stricter rules, be more harsh, et cetera. But I think there are those in leadership positions who realize that just isn't working anymore. I think the leadership of the JWs is just clueless on what to do. If they had any sort of core virtuous values, their future plans would be easy to make, but the Watchtower has so many kiss-ass officials that thirst for more power. You don't rise up the ranks by proclaiming a loud need for change, a relaxation of overly restrictive rules, a call to reexamine their motives. You move up the ranks by spewing the party line and holding to "the old way."
I think the Watchtower is slowly, slowly relaxing some of their rules. I believe that because of the fact that elders came by my home to invite me back to the JWs shows a different strategy that the Watchtower is trying on for size. Can you imagine how difficult just that change was, to actually tell the elders to visit those who have left and invite them back? Change comes slowly to a large institution, religious or business or otherwise, and what instigates it is they can see disaster ahead. Their weak doctrines and punitive policies are being exposed because of something they couldn't have conceived of 10 years ago. The internet effectively puts an ex-JW with lots of info in every JW household with a computer.
i'm a music junkie, i like pretty much all types of music.
but in particular i would have to say jazz is my favorite, but not the watered down kenny g style of jazz.
