Hiking and Trail Safety tips...

i've done quite a bit of hiking on mountain trails, semi-arid prairie trails, and desert trails... i'd like to pass along a few tips for survival.... first and foremost!!!

i've seen so many people blundering down the local trails with music blaring in their ears, 'bluetooth' hands' free phones in their ears, and so on.... these people are just asking to be taken down by some sort of predator.

the first time i was stalked by a cougar, my ears alerted me to the fact i was in danger!!

Yeah, like you've ever been patted down or had your backpack searched for weapons by a forest ranger.

Bears are everywhere. It's good to carry at all times. You just never know.

Just wanted to second not listening to an iPod while hiking. I've only hiked in Yosemite which is usually pretty safe and on well known trails, but twice I've had a rattlesnake slither out right in front of me. Cougars are making a comeback there. Everytime I've been there I've seen bears. Saw a female black bear and her cub once on the way down from Half Dome. Nobody has ever been killed by a bear in Yosemite.

It's a compendium of every death in that park. You'd be amazed at the number of people who end up going over the waterfalls there.

I believe in carrying a firearm on extended trips. Thanks for the info on the Blackhawk, BTS. I'm going to look into that one. I know other serious hikers that carry firearms. The comfort level is worth it.

today i accidentally ordered a lunch sandwich that had bacon on it.

it's been a very long time since i've eaten bacon and i was shocked at just how good it is!

it must be true: everything is better with bacon!.

Bacon wrapped shrimp (or chicken tender) with purple onion and jalapeno.

Grill

Throw tortilla on grill and drop some monterrey jack cheese on it.

When cheese is bubbly, drop two of those bacon wrapped beauties onto that tortilla and eat.

Fantastic.

Gaming Addiction

just curious, has anyone ever dealt with a gaming addiction or had someone they love that is addicted to online gaming?

(world of warcraft in particular) how did you handle it?.

Been there, done that.

I've played some truly great games and remember them with fondness. I've gotten addicted and known other gaming addicts. My friend took his games and gave them to his father to put in his safe so they weren't available. I threw mine away. I then repurchased a couple of them, I began playing them too much again and I threw them away again. I just enjoyed them way too much and they were taking over my life.
