I didn't read through all the responses but my short and pithy reply to "Jehovah always used an organization" is to say "Jehovah always destroyed his organization."

"Jehovah ALWAYS had/used an organization". How would you reply?
by EdenOne inin a recent meeting with elders, an argument was used to the effect that jehovah has always [= throughout history] used, or operated through, an organization; therefore, the wts must be that organization today, since god must be using one.
naturally, i know what arguments i've used to counter that argument.
but i'm interested in hearing yours.

Sure. Love the guy. Not just a brother, a good friend. Unfortunately my brother's children are being turned against him, to see him as the enemy in his own home, and they are only 10 and 6 years old. One has stopped speaking to him and is hateful towards him. It's so unfair. So unfair. It's so unfair.
People can argue that you yourself can't rip a person's faith away, but within your relationships you can wield great influence that can start them down a path of very real suffering that may last a lifetime. Shouldn't one consider all the consequences of one's actions if one is a trusted friend, if one posseses some power of persuasion over that person? And I pushed very hard on the rare occasions my brother relaxed his shunning and would see me because he missed me. All I'm saying is it's not only about getting loved ones out of the JWs when there can be resulting severe collateral damage.

Good post. Just because you've had the insight and strength to break from Jehovah's Witnesses doesn't mean that your loved ones have.
I was enraged that a cult could separate me from my siblings and worked very hard to get them out by sharing all the expose' material with them that I could. For my sisters it went smoothly, but for my younger brother I have regrets doing so. After 10 years he finally broke out of the WT but his wife didn't. Although it was really wonderful to have him back now it looks like a divorce for him, the loss of his young children, financial devastation is possible. It's like watching a car wreck in slow motion and it is painful to realize that I had a hand in its cause. I don't want to see my brother suffer like he is. I find it more painful than being separated from him because he was obeying the WT rules about shunning. If I had to do it all over again I would have just kept silent.

i think i've reached that point in my life.. i hate my job.. i used to love the work i do... but the way a corporation crushes your soul and leaves you as an empty husk of your former self has finally taken its toll on me.. i used to look forward to the challenges of work... now i wake up, go to work, do what i have to do to get through the day and then go home.. .
it's totally absurd but i find myself literally fantasizing about winning the lottery so i can get my soul back..

I feel your pain, Else. I feel exactly the same way.
However, money stress is the worse stress... for me. I will keep my job and be grateful for it. There are many people who would kill to have the kind of job that I have. I'm not struggling with house payments or car payments or debt. What helps me keep some semblance of sanity is I am working on another project on the side but it's going to take time and a lot of work, but if it pays off (and it is a big maybe) then I can move on and do work that I find meaningful.
Another thing I have found helpful is planned trips/adventures. They don't have to be expensive, but something to break the humdrum routine and keep life interesting.

I guess what mystifies me is you seem to regurgitate only what your lefty sources tell you. And when I read about the very real, very scientific, very harsh financial impact that swallowing the left AGW agenda entails, I'm stunned you don't equally focus on the gigantuan absurdity of rushing to do something that will have a draconian financial effect on you and everybody else that lives here just to support the theory of your political party of choice. I could be wrong, but it seems you don't give a crap about this very real negative aspect of your beloved theory.
There is lying going on both sides of the global warming argument from the media and the so-called scientists who are pandering for whatever money they can wring out of this issue. It's human nature. The scientists can be bought off as easily as the biggest whore of a politician.
