Shunned while my Son copes with Cancer.
by phil the fish filleter inhi guys, i am known to some on here and to prevent further problems from the trolls that may identify my son from what i am disclosing i have a different name.
so, my 26 year old son gets the diagnosis ocular melanoma back on june 14th this year with a very bleak outlook.
i walked away from the cult some years ago, however my son stayed in as he was engaged to an uber witness girl.

Hello Phil, I am so glad you've posted. That's a terrible story, but I actually know two families where similar things have happened and are ongoing even as we speak. Different circumstances but same trademark of cynical Watchtower control.
What a very good thing that you are strong enough to stand up to those bullies. The whole Atchtower set up is built upon power, control and bullying. Your poor son and grandchildren too.
Very good news that he is doing well, if I understand you correctly. Many of us will now be thinking of him. And just to repeat what's already been said, welcome to the forum!

Quite right, rather be in hades. I completely agree with you. Personally, from my own experience, I do not believe that most atheists view religion/god/creator. Maybe it's just how things are in Britain, or how things are in my own friend circle, but just as I am tolerant of all views, so the atheists and humanists that I know are tolerant of people with a faith of any sort.
My friends include a Jew who has a responsible position in the Anglican Church, Muslims with origins in many different countries including Palestine, Bah'ai, many Buddhists, many pagans and wiccans...and many more. Quakers, Catholics, Anglican, Methodists, Baptists...we all get on very well together. The one group that does not fit with this scenario is the Jehovah's Witnesses. JW's think they are right and everyone ese is wrong, they are intolerant of any idea to the contrary, and they don't even encourage sharing ideas. However, they pretend to do so while trying to lure and "catch" a "study".
The small group of evangelical atheists here display many (not of course all) of the characteristics of the JW's that many of them once were, and the bitterness and anger that some of them understandably and justifiably feel towards the WT gets displaced and thrust onto an available dissenting voice.
They are only a very few. When I say that, they ask me to name names. Not only am I not going to play that game but there is no need. Everyone else knows them. It's impossible not to.
What they really don't like is when someone not only stands up to them but points out their illogicality and prejudice. It sends them into a great big tizzy.
I'm glad you have a panda to make you feel better...interesting choice of cuddly animal there...I wonder if it reminds people of anything?

Palm, dear, I am beautifully calm. But then, I am not the one with a need to make up accusations.
Why not go and cuddle your panda?

No, Palm, sorry, I don't criticise atheists for being atheists, so your premise falls down flat on its face before it even gets going. Please can you quote anywhere I have called atheists bad? This is so silly. How many times do I have to tell you I support the atheists' right to believe or not believe as they choose? How many times do the words "we do not care whether you are atheists or not" have to stare you in the face before you can take in their meaning?
Naturally, every living person on this planet has room for improvement, so no-one can argue with you there.
Still, once again you have put words in my mouth. Not once in this thread or any other have I said anything like "bad atheists/good believers". I do not think it, so I would not be saying it.
You really must stop making something up put of your own head and then accusing someone else of saying it. Do you want me to have said it, or something? Is that it?
I think you have some problems, Palm.

Dear Palm, please do stop putting words in my mouth. I said "truce" was in inappropriate word as there isn't a war.
I did not say it was not my type of topic.
Do I have anything constructive to add to the OP? Many already think I have been doing just that, and as for me, I've certainly been trying to instil some logic into the whole thing!
So, your point, Palm, was...?

Similarities between Roman Catholics and Jehovah`s Witnesses
by smiddy inboth claim to be the sole path to god (or did at some point ).
both claim to reach back to first century christians ,( though jw`s are a bit ambiguous about this).
the r.c church has a pope , the j.w.`s have a governing body ,both providing spiritual food to the faithful.

Well, I'm a Catholic and have, thank goodness, gone back to the Church.
I wouldn't know where to even begin to start, but I see virtually no similarity between JW's and Catholics. Someone said that both have a priesthood. no, they don't. Catholics do, in a direct line of laying on of hands going back to Jesus, as they believe. JW's don't even understand the concept of priesthood and do not have even an I oration of it. Their elders are nothing like priests.
Catholics have seven sacraments. JW's have none, and deny the very concept of sacraments, according to one elder who, with his wife, was indoctrinating me.
But I just want to lend my support to apostatethunder, and Band on the Run. Apostatethunder, you've already said much that I'd want to say.

I have to confess! I thought the Puppy was a lady too, Loz!
But then, for a long time on here, when I first joined, people thought I was a bloke. ;)
Bohm, thanks, I'm glad you weren't offended. I was responding to reproofs from other posters, and so was covering all bases.
As to your post, well, I already answered it, further back up the thread. You quote that and say you see an act of division. I read again what I wrote and see again what I was talking about, which was how very weary one feels after bashing one's head against the metaphorical brick wall that appears so readily here. It's all a matter of individual perception, but it is very interesting to me that in the last few days I've had a number of very encouraging and supportive PM's from observers who just observe and form an opinion based on what they see here (they don't participate, but they are the ones who can be seen in the escalating page view numbers.)
Anyway, I am delighted to see Hellpuppy here. His (I'm going to have to get used to thinking of him as a male puppy) contributions are always moderate and always worth reading. Good dog, Puppy, good dog.

Aaaaah, I love the Puppy, Silence!
Maybe there's a No Dogs rule on JWN? Only on a lead, kind of thing?
And yes, s+g, a very nice person, the very same Hellpuppy from http://xjwsforchrist.madmooseforum.com/
