This video started circulating earlier this month. It shows the graphic execution of a man who had converted to christianity by Islamic extremists.

* * * A young man appears held down by masked men. His head is pulled back, with a knife to his throat. He does not struggle and appears resigned to his fate. Speaking in Arabic, the background speaker, or "narrator," chants a number of Muslim prayers and supplications, mostly condemning Christianity, which, because of the Trinity, is referred to as a polytheistic faith: "Let Allah be avenged on the polytheist apostate"; "Allah empower your religion, make it victorious against the polytheists"; "Allah, defeat the infidels at the hands of the Muslims"; "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger."

Then, to cries of "Allahu Akbar!"-or, "God is great!"-the man holding the knife to the apostate's throat begins to slice away, even as the victim appears calmly mouthing a prayer. It takes nearly two minutes of graphic knife-carving to sever the Christian's head, which is then held aloft to more Islamic cries and slogans of victory.

This video is not for anyone and please do not watch as the image is graphic. What I hope people will consider is the calm face the young man has on his face ... he is about to be killed and he is praying. They are slicing his neck and he has no appearance of pain, as if protected by something from the brutality of the execution.

What is striking is that this young man sacrifices his life for his belief in the Trinity ... food for thought in this aggitated world.

I wonder what others think of this who are able to endure it.

Elder father sent me an email about Feb 2012 WT - my resposne

i'm not sure if any of you will remember but i posted on here six months ago about a correspondence i was having with my dad, an elder, about who would die in armageddon.

i was asking some tough questions about children being killed in armageddon and i could tell he uncomfortable with the answers he was giving.. i drafted an email in resposne to his email but in the end i decided not to send it in the interest of maintaining friendly relations.. .

last week, out of the blue, my dad sent an email link to the february 2012 watchtower article about armageddon and said it would answer some of my questions.. here is my response which is a critique of the feb 2012 wt article and some of the broader ethics concerning 'armageddon'.

truthseeker, if you wish to witness the way the early church administered Holy Communion then you should visit a local Orthodox Christian church and not waste your time with hockey pockie WT et al. - they might have a diocese name of either Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox or Antiochian Orthodox ... they are one and the same thing just might be in a different language. Best one to visit might be an Antiochian Orthodox church if you have one in the neighborhood.

Some additional points to make in response to some of the things I have read in this thread are:

a) The emphasis of celebration to true Christianity is not the death of Christ but the fact that He resurrected. This is the central theme of the Gospels and of the Traditional Church that was continued through the ages from the Apostles.

b) Jesus Christ is NOT a "spirit" for three reasons:

i. You can not say what God is when no one has seen God to know what He is ... We can only say what He is not. Why?

ii. The nature of God, the essence that is, NO ONE knows.

iii. Christ, the Word and Son, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, is RESURRECTED which means that the nature of man, the body, was resurrected with Him. He does not exist in "eternity" (Heaven/Paradise etc) without a body. He is now and always will be in a material body that has been resurrected thus renewed.

c) We should partake of Holy Communion, not in bodgy back yard house ceremonies that have NO blessing from God, but in the Church that he established and left behind.

Look for the historical evidence for this church ... it exists to this very day and all that find it are the happiest and most joyful people you will meet.

The truth is most Orthodox Christian churches do not use the wreath not because it is a bad thing to do but because majority of Orthodox tend to be Greek, Russian etc and this is not a tradition that they are familiar with. However, that said ... the parish that I attend here in Melbourne is from the Antiochian jurisdiction (again mainly Arabic backgrounds) but our parish priest is ex-Anglican born and raised in Great Britain ... so, he has the candles and we light one every Sunday just after the Gospel and as the priest says the Sermon.

I wanted to add, at this parish the entire service is in English ... the aim is to introduce Orthodox Christianity to those who are not of Greek or Russian (etc) background since most Anglo-saxon people think it is a new religion and do not realise it is the one before Catholicism split away (hehe - I am waiting for some Catholics to pounce on me for that one).

I like the addition of the wreath to the service it is quite nice and it has no dogmatical impact on salvation so its welcome :)

thank you botchtowersociety! For those who do not know me, I am not of a JW background and I am Australian born of Greek heritage. That means I am thrice-blessed to have my (a) nationalistic traditions (as an Aussie), (b) nationalistic traditions (as a greek) and (c) my religious tradition of being an Orthodox Christian ... these mixed together make for beautiful moments and memories around these times ...

dear finallysomepride, do not feel embarresed. The goat was super cute and I figured you were just being playful and not trying to be offensive. I am wondering if back in Greece they dressed up the goat before they chopped off its head for the spit roast ;)

I would love to see photos of other traditions from across the world (keep them nice please).

Haha ... you are humerous finallysomepride. I cant tell you why the animals look shitty but they normally are drawn looking at the baby providing it warmth with their breath. Could just be the style of the iconographer coming through ... maybe he was having a bad day!

For your interest, the ox and the donkey are represented in the icon of the nativity because of this verse:

"The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib" (Isaiah 1:3).
