How Cultish are the JW's?
by xjwsrock infirst off, i certainly agree the jw's are a cult.
but i'm sensitive to black-and-white thinking now.. so, where do they rank on the scale?
think of a cultish religion scale from 0-10.. consider the likes of unitarian universalism vs baptist vs amish vs charles manson.. where do you think jw's fall on the scale?.

Paranoia after today's Watchtower
by Truthexplorer inboy oh boy did i feel paranoid at today's wt.
not only are we to watch our associations outside of the congregation, but also watch our associations 'within' the congregation.
this was emphasised by the wt study conductor.

Yes this WT study was atrocious.
- 1914 referred to as a biblical fact as the start of the last days.
- warning against bad association inside the congregation (they know about us lol)
- Solomon referenced as a person who suffered from bad associates among his 1000 wives and concubines - no mention of the fact that having 1000 wives and concubines is immoral and illegal today in any western society
- They had to bring up Noah at the end to throw a death threat in the mix (stick)
- Last sentence throws out the carrot of the New World

the problem with you, apostates, is that your doubts were not genuine
by never a jw inin page 10 of the correspondence guidelines, in the section of apostasy" i found the following:.
one who has sincere doubts orquestions should be kindly aided inthe spirit of galatians.... i am forced to conclude that many of you didn't get any aid because your doubts were fake.
so according to the wt manual, your main sin may have not been doubting, but faking having doubts.

Good points khaleesi, they don't have any patience for independent thoughts or doubts that can't be handled in like 5 minutes and never mentioned again.

If the elders ask you if you believe the FDS is the governing body or if the FDS is being used as Gods Channel, and you answer No, you are basically a cooked goose.
quite telling how quickly they write off somebody as soon as they deny the FDS. It means they know you see the con. You are a lost cause at that point. You are literally dead to them.

They put doubters into two categories. The "sincere doubters" that are little innocent doves that maybe heard something that troubles them or have a question they can't get a satisfying answer to.
Then there are the Apostate Devils that have already convinced themselves that the org is crap.
They write off the apostates and disfellowship them. They play shepherd to the "sincere doubter".

What are the things that wake people up from the Watchtower Corporation?
by punkofnice inwhen i became an elder i saw the dark side.
a side i previously believed couldn't possibly exist in the one true religion of the happiest people on earth.. then they rolled out 'overlapping generations(tm)' and that was the last straw.. all my life i had doubts but surpressed them thinking i was at fault and not the cult leaders.. it seems more likely that now the governing body are parading around like popes, wearing their expensive jewellery, that this will nauseate even dyed in the wool jws.. i wonder if the wake up can be condensed into main categories?.
1. experiencing the cruel handling of matters by the wbt$ reps.. 2. crazy doctrine (eg.

For me it started with being involved in congregation problems (which are people problems) that were perpetrated and/or exacerbated by "bad elders". I would spend hours and hours twisting my head into a pretzel having long conversations into the night with other brothers, trying to figure out why Jehovah would allow this to go on. Where was the holy spirit, where was Jesus as head of the congregation. The cliche's didn't help. "Jehovah allows things for a reason" "Jehovah allows things for a test" "Wait on Jehovah" etc etc. These cliche's werejust escape hatches for the organization -just excuses anda way to kick the can.
It's nuts to think now. The answer was so easy. This isn't the truth. These are just dudes with varied levels of delusion in a building. There is no "Jehovah" as taught by JW's, there is no Holy Spirit, there are no angels directing the work etc. Once you get that - suddenly it all makes sense. no need for the mental pretzel at all.
My frustrations eventually led me to read online and discover there were way bigger problems than I ever knew about.
