You can be amazed at non believers all you want, but at the end of the day they are just being the honest people in the debate

"We humans don't know everything"

"The god of the bible commands,behaves, asks, performs in a manner we would as humans in 2013 consider highly immoral and wrong "

"There is currently no evidence for intelligent design, a god, the afterlife"

"Things we have observed contradict the bible and the biblical account about our universe."

What amazes me, is that I know the bible very well, I know science well, I know everything I wrote above is 100% true. I know that if you were being honest you would have to agree with all the comments above too. The answers, though undeniably true, amount to an honest answer and perspective of god that we were not sold. As soon as you admit that everything sbove is true, your amazement as to why people become atheist, would dissipate like fog in the sunlight of honesty.

Combined, these above issues lead to people making desicions concerning their beleifs that change their life forever. Argue evolution, god, the bible all you want, but those 4 statement are undeniable.

if you could teach me one thing to convince me not to believe what would it be?

for instance what has the wt taught about evolution/science or mans existence that is wrong and could possibly change skmeones mind?

and the more important question, why is it a creator couldnt allow for species to evolve?

P.s. I can't believe Tec still doesnt understand why it is important to tell people how she comes upon her information, namely a voice she hears, that she relies on and then communicates to other people this 'information' as if fact. Considering how many times Tec has been incorrect and how much her story has adjusted (feel free to search her posts history), if there is so eone talking to her, they haven't been to school...

e.g. Things that Tec SAYS as if its FACT..... Ask her how she knows these things....

what if I give you belief in a god and said ok, lets say there is one.... Now I'm willing to go one further and say the bible is true, all 100% true. These 2 things now equate to the stands

what is the proof it should be there?.

i've brought up to jws that revelation says not to take anything out or you will get the second death.. but they are ok with it because they compare it to not using the book of thomas, mary, etc.. what would you say to that?.

They argue it isnt in the old manuscripts, but neither are lots of verses and chapters and.... IN NO DOCUMENT OR OLD MANUSCRIPT is the name Jehovah or the tetragramaton in the new testament, so stick that right back in their fibbing tail pipe....

Dawkins-The Greatest Show on Earth

Etude, do you think that saying Dawkins is fallible is unique?

I encourage people i like and love to read Dawkins because its the shortest route to very good informstion, but there is much I disagree with him about, including some hard science. His job as a communicator of science makes his a very talented man in ...communicating science. So he is a great place to start!

Dawkins helped me out with a paper I wrote on medicine and evolution, I actually met with my university to discuss publishing it this afternoon. He is very blunt and doesnt always have the best approach. I think his views on some evolutionary matters are likely going to be proven wrong, but the fundamentals are all water tight, it isnt his work, it is a body of evidence, he simply signposts it, discusses it and even encourages questioning it. He isn't perfect, but he is bloody good, so much so I would encourage my loved ones to read his work. You do realise, he is just a man and even in my eyes (i'm a fan of his) I see him as equal to me and you in ability and means, he simply has read more than us and can communicate it well. I dont use Dawkins or ANY PERSON to get my data, I tried that once with 8 men in Brooklyn, I was duped! But i do use reliable scientist with a history of good science, to help me point to WHERE the evidence and research is, for ME to then examine.

By the way, I am not unique, this is how science works.... nobody worships Dawkins, what a very immature thing to say buddy. Religious people throw the worship card out st anything and anyone that weakens their faith or beliefs, only last week somone was saying we worship research, two weeks before someone here said we worship the scientific method.... its just bizzare!

So no offence, but you get no awards for saying a man is fallible..... The first thing they teach you in science is how to critically appraise work...why? Because there is a lot of shit science out there.

But the evolutionary foundationary science that has been devoured for over a century and all evidence so far supports it, is as watertight as our beliefs on gravity or the galaxy or our sun etc etc.

p.s. Out of interest, if I asked you how to look for scientific evidence on a topic, would you know how to go about it? ....... Most don't and that is where Dawkins steps in.

sorry if i'm stepping on any toes here, but i haven't seen anything positive about home-schooling...at all.

the notion is that parents are taking advantage of the formative years to inculcate more worthwhile values while protecting their kids from worldly influences.

they end up with lazy, socially inept, illiterate duds who haven't a clue.

OP: depends how you measure success? Good grades ? Good grades AND good social skills? Good grades in as many subjects as a normal kid? A fair and balanced education?

Home schooled kids are missing out on more than just evolution lessons.....

Etude, at the end of the day, dawkins could be a genocidal, infanticidal, racist, sexist, homophobic, murderer .... But unlike the god of the bible, his message is backed by evidence.

People attacked Darwin too for his personal life because they couldn't attack the evidence he highlighted. Dawkins could be a saint or a shit bag, but the issue of his personality could not be more irrelevant.

I realised my opinion of Darwin and Dawkins was born out of being told that anyone that dares to say 'god is wrong' must really think highly of themselves! Of course this is not the case, they are just brave enough to say 'hey look at this, it proves x and y wrong. Doesnt this make believing in x and y a bit silly?'

Keep in mind, believers in x and y, dont sit back passively, they have dominated belief for centuries even via torture and death,me en today they try to quash science and its communication! If you were an expert in a topic and an organisation with bias and motive attempted to missdirect their members and called you a deciever.... Would it annoy you a little? Would it come across in your approach?

Dawkins was a professor at Oxford, his role being a "communicator of science to the public", check out his early Christmas lectures for children (a uk tradition at xmas). In this role he came up against much opposition and attack for SIMPLY TELLING THE TRUTH. He had to fight people who tried to bantext books or brought out their own spurious textbooks, people that denied fossils existed showing adaptation, these are sll very frustrsting scenarios.

Most dont appreciate how his angst with religious bodies began... But maybe knowing that helps.

Probably the craziest answers I have heard from JW's is about dinosaurs. Bloody children know more than JW's! I met JW's from allover the world and I found many answers were dependant on where you asked as well as who. I found many on sustralia beleive dinosaurs are fraudulent, the bones being made and buried by demons to confuse us! One JW i was talking to about natural history stopped me in my tracks when she asked "don't laugh at me, but were dinosaurs real or are they made up?"

Blood is a huge division in the JW's. A paper in a nursing journal noted that 20% of JW's will ask for blood on the basis it remains confidential and never mentioned again. That was an older paper too from about 2004, I am sure it is more now with the added confusion.
