  by developing new techniques, a team of scientists led by david neale at the university of california have succeeded in sequencing the genome of the loblolly pine pinus taeda.. the genome is 16 billion base pairs long - 7 times larger than the human genome.

  so why does it take so much dna to make a tree?

  well it turns out it doesn't.. the new sequence confirmed that the loblolly genome is so large because it is crammed full of invasive dna elements that copied themselves around the genome.

  Kate, you seem to be undergoing wild fluxations of belief and resistence. It is a tough time, I remember it well. At least you are quick to accept the evidence and change your mind, I took a long time.

  Perhaps before you answer, research first. Junk DNA is a hot potato for believers, they assume we mean it is a bad design and disproves god. But thats like saying we go hunting fir evidence that there is no unicorns, it makes no sense. It is the religious who are sensitive to such information and evidence, it is not an atheist agenda'd attack.

  Besides all of this junk dna is a poor use of terminology, but that is it's name and it is largely junk and unusable. Read up on it yourself. The only reason it can become uselful in the sense of evolutionary adaptation is via random chance that the junk dna hides a useful mutation within it...by chance.

  It is clear you don't want to let go of a concept of god, but there is no short cut to research and study if you are really going to assign him a role in our universe. Right now, a perfect designer with a perfect universe has long ago been dismissed..... he would have to be a bumbling fool to have created all of this. I remember when I didn't comprehend such a perspective, there is no way to not sound elitist or superior, but I really don't mean to be. But if humans, the earth, the universe looks perfect to you, there is much to learn as there was with me.

  Junk DNA is formed by cells cocking up as they make copies of themselves, it happens millions of times a minute in all living things, defending the use of junk DNA is a losing battle from its very conception, it is made by crappy design. The process of making junk dna is the same that gives us cancer but it also allows for evolution. You can't have benevolence and designer , it is one or the other..... or neither.

  or to put a sattelite at the right time at the right speed in the right direction in the right place to have it orbit another body, so :.

  what ingenious natural & process is it, than can get 9+ zillions bodies to get into the right orbit simultaniously or sequentially and have them remain there for billions of years?

  Also we use a p value of below 0.05 in science, 5% would be outside statistical significance , we consider that within the mechanism of chance.

  Ignoring that, becuase you are saying the 'design' accuracy is within 5%......which makes your god a shambolic designer. Would you even buy a watch that was within 5% accurate?

  You have difficulty responding to questions don't you.

  What is your point? you want to put your flag next to an old hypothesis that most physicists would be content to accept as a percieved coincidence or expected parsmeter when under the influence of our laws. Pi is evident in all spherical objects, the golden ratio is also evident all over the universe. We don't say this is evidence of a god, we research why it is that way.... this is how we have gone from horse and cart to space stations in a hundred years.

  I assume you want to stamp 'designed by my god' on it because you have seen something that appears orderly, exact and measurable. As I said, why not stamp pot holes, with perfectly filled puddles. It is almost like the pot hole was 'designed'. You dismiss this analogy too quickly,,when you grasp it you will see why your hypothesis means nothing at all.

  I think you know how weak this is and if you want to stand by it go ahead. The fact you are talking about these structures with terminology suxh as BIG BALLS makes me believ you are a half witted troll or a half witt. Either way you are offering nothing new to the world.

  i had to highlight this part because i was dying laughing on the inside when it was given.. the talk first starts by the brother bringing out how clean gods people were in the past and how he gave specific direction to the israelites for disposing if waste.

  then he said that a sister stepped in gum outside on the pavement so we should not chew gum at the kh.eat mints instead!.

  then he brought out an important point about keeping the bathroom sanitized and he says: "and just recently we found blood in the sink in one of the bathrooms.

  Want to know why people accept evolution ?

  do you have questions about or want to understand evolution?

  it is a difficult concept to communicate and so if it is not explained well , it is understandable that we would dismiss it.. i sincerely want to talk with people who want to learn more or see what all the fuss is about.

  we are all learning and increasing our knowledge all the time and it is good to go over facts with critical eye.. evolution we can discuss, looking at the foundational facts and evidence, one at a time for you to go and check, agree or disagree with and return.. no pressure to accept it, you can decide for yourself, also no mocking etc of what you have to say.. .

  What if I told you fossils are irrelevant to evolutionary science? DNA alone proves it true, nowadays we don't need the fossils as our ancestors exist in our DNA.

  Before we start chief, without looking it up, can you define evolution, then describe how you think it works?

  Interesting. I wonder if there is a correlation to quantity of junk DNA and survivability in an enviroment. Junk DNA can be adopted in enviromental changes, the junk DNA is an obvious source for potentially useful mutations. I wonder if the organisms with considerable junk DNA correspond to a lengthy existence on earth in many enviroments?

  i am a born in jw(24 years old) ive been baptized for 7 years and was a ministerial servant for 4 years(i am no longer one).

  Nauseating JW.org section for small children - CUTOUTS? Really?

  i am not hot linking to jw borg, but they have a whole section for obviously very small children (become j's friend, with a whole array of caleb-related stuff).

  i have actually never visited the site, today was the first time, because i wanted to check a technical information about their websites architecture and came across this sh*t!.

  the way they are targeting small kids is nauseating me (i have a 5 year old, still in with her mother).
