Stats on Gay Marriage & Religious Belief
by snare&racket inso just how non-judgmental, tolerant, respectful, caring, loving, liberal and humane are the religious groups?.
"findings from prris american values atlas, which draws on 40,000 interviews among a random sample of americans, provides the most in-depth portrait to date of attitudes on same-sex marriage by religious affiliation.. the most supportive major religious groups are buddhists (84 percent), jews (77 percent), and americans who select other religion (75 percent); additionally, more than three-quarters (77 percent) of the religiously unaffiliated also support same-sex marriage.. more than six in ten (62 percent) white mainline protestants support same-sex marriage.
among white mainline protestant denominations, support ranges from 69 percent support among white mainline presbyterians and 68 percent among both white episcopalians and white congregationalists/united church of christ members, to lower support among white mainline baptists (53 percent) and white mainline church of christ/disciples (50 percent).. and while the catholic church officially opposes the legalization of same-sex marriage, about six in ten white (61 percent), hispanic (60 percent), and other non-white catholics (60 percent) support allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry legally.

"Findings from PRRI’s American Values Atlas, which draws on 40,000 interviews among a random sample of Americans, provides the most in-depth portrait to date of attitudes on same-sex marriage by religious affiliation.
The most supportive major religious groups are Buddhists (84 percent), Jews (77 percent), and Americans who select “Other religion” (75 percent); additionally, more than three-quarters (77 percent) of the religiously unaffiliated also support same-sex marriage.
More than six in ten (62 percent) white mainline Protestants support same-sex marriage. Among white mainline Protestant denominations, support ranges from 69 percent support among white mainline Presbyterians and 68 percent among both white Episcopalians and white Congregationalists/United Church of Christ members, to lower support among white mainline Baptists (53 percent) and white mainline Church of Christ/Disciples (50 percent).
And while the Catholic Church officially opposes the legalization of same-sex marriage, about six in ten white (61 percent), Hispanic (60 percent), and other non-white Catholics (60 percent) support allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry legally. A majority of orthodox Christians (56 percent) also support same-sex marriage.
On the other side of the debate, majorities of Jehovah’s Witnesses (75 percent), Mormons (68 percent), white evangelical Protestants (66 percent), Hispanic Protestants (58 percent), and black Protestants (54 percent) oppose allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry legally. Among white evangelical Protestant denominations, white evangelical Baptists are the most opposed (72 percent), while white evangelical Lutherans are nearly evenly divided (45 percent favor, 48 percent opposed)."
I was so ashamed when the JW's came bottom of the worlds religious denomination tables for education and household income, but this is just Bronze Age embarrassing.
The youth and liberals in the JW's (25%) have done well to say they support it, but it is no surprise that the worlds most draconian belief system is falling further and further behind.
Hopefully this will prove eye opening for the more humane and less ignorant JW's........

10 years and Satan finally struck....
by snare&racket ini left around a decade ago, life has not been easy, but it has been profoundly better than the jw robotics my earlier life chapters resembled.. my current life was going so well, too well...... and finally the nemesis of jahooha came out from his dark hiding place.
no longer in gods tent i was as vulnerable as the chinese job and his unfortunate sheep and children.. satan, bless his socks of cotton, has finally attacked, he broke my leg the dark lordy bastard.. a spiral fracture of the fibula and various fractures the ankle joint.. the worst of all his evil doings was the story i have to tell people, it's 'mechanism of injury'..... i slipped on some grass.
yes the devilish ball rash, got me good.. so now, i sit bored, wishing i had meetings to prepare for, talks to write and i long for the live bombing i would have received as an interesting new kingdom hall event in the decades of waiting on jahooha..... but all i have is some lame ass, american apostates on a forum..... tchhhh.... .

Yeah, I haven't even picked my bike up, it happened the day before I went to get it.
Probably the worst part of the whole incident :(
it's sat waiting for me in a showroom.

Probable Discovery of Life on Comet Philae
by cofty inaccording to leading astronomers the probe philae that landed on the comet 67p last november may have discovered microbial life..... sadly neither the probe nor the orbiter rosetta are equipped to test directly but the evidence is interesting.
these are not easily explained in terms of prebiotic chemistry.
the dark material is being constantly replenished as it is boiled off by heat from the sun.

I subscribe to panspermia as highly probable for sure, but this seems a bit whacky and a lot of conjecture. I read it in the Guardian today and interesting as it is, it is a man guessing. Don't mean to be rude, but it is just bad science.
Who knows though? About time we invested in and dedicated space for organism detecting equipment for such missions as it has huge significance for our science and cultures.

Captive virgins, polygamy and sex slaves: What marriage would look like if we actually followed the Bible
by Captain Schmideo2 ina friend linked this on his facebook page, sharing:http://www.rawstory.com/2015/06/captive-virgins-polygamy-and-sex-slaves-what-marriage-would-look-like-if-we-actually-followed-the-bible/one quote that stood out for me:"granted, sometimes even decent people do get sucked into a sort of text worship that i call bibliolatry, and bible worship can make a persons moral priorities as archaic and cruel as those of the iron age tribesmen who wrote the texts.
(i once listened, horrified, while a sweet, elderly pair of jehovahs witnesses rationalized the old testament slaughter of children with the same words nazis used to justify the slaughter of jewish babies.

Why would Jehovah and Jesus talk to Satan?
by hardtobeme inif satan is the greatest apostate there is, why he was allowed to be in heaven?
job chapters 1 and 2 says that jehovah talked to him.
wasn't jehovah supposed to shun his son and set an example to all parents?.

Very good questions for a JW.
If they knew their doctrine, they may argue that he had to allow it to play out so that all could see that satan and Adam/Eve's desicion for independence didn't work.
BUT.... This is where my questions about satan may come in to play.,since leaving I have stated that it was all a farce, how could a god say it was fair to compare being a robot worshiper of him, to choosing independence, when he immediately made them imperfect, made the earth difficult to work, introduced disease, temptation, sin, evil etc etc etc THEN said, well let's see how you get on! Hardly answers the universal question of sovereignty, how would they have got on had he not tainted everything he had created!
I'm an atheist, so this is a matter of reasoning and logic in talking with believers, but for those still pondering, it's a good point, especially in conjunction with your very good questions.

Nitty gritty: That's one perspective of a court case involving child rape, I will never share or understand again. Of course being free from brainwashing helps.

Bible History
by bitsnbobs inhi all,i left the org in the late 90s.
not because of beliefs or the 1914/generation fiasco.
just thoughtlessness, hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance.

Bits and bobs, may I suggest two great books.
"WHO WROTE THE BIBLE?" and "THE LOST CHRISTIANITIES."
You should start with the data, evidence, scholarly expert opinion and history FOR the bible, before critically appraising it's verses. You may save yourself a lot of time.

I have never been so disgusted by a comment. This girl was raped by a JW when a child, who went on to be protected by the organisation,he raped children before Candace and after her. Candace isn't a hero because we felt she was going to bring down the dangerous cult that is Watchtower, she is a hero to us because she has suffered.......yet remained strong.
Being forced to leave Watchtower for simply daring to have questions has been the most painful, costly and life changing event of my life. I can't imagine how it felt to have been raped as a child and watch the rapist be defended by what you thought was gods organisation in earth AND be shunned by the religion.
She is a hero, she has been braver and stronger than any person I have come to know in 34 years.
Watchtower, a house of pain and suffering.....may history judge it and those that defend it accordingly.
I'm glad the stress and heartache of a child abuse case is over for you Candance, I wish you well in your future, you deserve peace. For what you have done, thank you.
