  Brother & Sister-in-Law Return to Kingdom Hall After Two Decades, Quickly Get Stumbled

  it was a mild surprise, learning that a brother and sister-in-law had began re-associating with jehovah's witnesses after at least 25 years of being away.

  the couple, of hispanic ethnicity, are in their early 60's, with their five children all grown and independent.

  the family had been considered nominal jws, infrequently attending meetings, rarely in field service, but using the annual convention as their family vacation.

  well it's been 18 months since i left the witnesses.

  my goodness what can i say?

  well let's start from the beginning.... 1) i am happy, yes i am (i know im not meant to be as the jw's would like to believe).

  Awesome thread!

  I'm properly 10 years out in August.

  Never been happier. I'm financially secure. I'm in a relationship. I'm a doctor. I am emotionally,mentally and morally at peace. what I believe, I believe because of evidence and contemplation therefore I have no deep conflicts in belief. I have NO constrictions on thought, speech, action, company or feeling.

  I indeed lost so, so many 'friends' and much of my family over time. In reality I never had these people, the relationships were conditional. This is not friendship, this is not love.

  Now I am surrounded by people I like, I respect and there is nothing we don't/can't discuss. Friends are real friends, life long and unconditional.

  Believe it or not, more of my family have now left than stayed. I never thought the day would come. But it happened. Seeing them become happy and free too is powerful.

  For anyone contemplating leaving,...I only have ONE sadness, ONE regret. Ask anyone that has left and they will all say the same ...

  i wish I had done it earlier, life is too short,,,,,

  It is so painful to realise you wasted your childhood, your youth, your teens, your twenties, so much normality stolen. But truly, what balances this out, is being free now when so many JW's are not. If you are lucky and smart enough to have figured out it is all lies.... Take advantage and leave....get your family OUT,

  Fossils on top of mountains is no mystery.....

  Those mountains used to be sea beds. Read up on how mountains and high land form.

  Nature is the most famous scientific journal sources known.

  Kate......No offence, you could not have done any credible chemistry education and not know that.

  You really should retract everything you have said so as to not unfairly confuse people looking for sincere answers. You have diverted them from reliable sources and introduced issues long sho resolved.

  Again, I'm blown away by your comments on Nature, it probably has the highest impact factor of all peer reviewed journals.

  my heart goes out for all people stuck in all high control groups, either with insight into the falsehood of their beliefs or none.. to remain a member whilst knowing it false however, must be soul destroying.. my question is, would you carry on living the lie if you discovered that we get one life, one go at existing.

  it's short, it's fragile and nobody in 100 years will care we even existed..... .......if you came to that realisation would you quit?.

  .......if you had children, would you leave in order to set them an example in strength and appreciation of the short time we enjoy?.

  How Many People are Living a Lie?

  one of the things i often wonder about at the meetings is how many of these people are actually living a lie or sinning in secret?

  and more importantly, how do these ones stomach it?

  in my case, i have secretly dated and done things disapproved by the wt with a pioneer sister in my congregation for years and we both go to the same meeting twice a week and pretend everything is perfect and nothing has happened.

  When I think back now, there were clearly many married young guys, elders wives even elders who had not only internal conflict, but fallen to the side of 'false' in weighing up the 'truth'.

  It all seems so obvious now. Those melancholic, quiet members of the cong who everyone judged, but were lovely people.

  Wow, I come back years on and the same people are making the same bizzare stands and claims. In that time you could have got a degree in a scientific field and defended your view empirically and changed the world.......if the rest of science is wrong and YOU are right.....

  As an aside, the same process that gives us evolution and diversity.....gives us cancer. But I assume nobody (outside of the USA) wants to state God guides that?
