The irony......you literally post daily in a ex-religious support group forum about your dismay at what people do and say that triggers you. On a daily basis you voice clearly your intolerance for actions and perspectives that differ from your political views. You did it in this very post! Honestly, your lack of personal insight in posting this is astounding.

Maybe try not to get so easily offended by what others do or don't do....... just a suggestion!

JW Net and Politics

this site was and remains instrumental in assisting people that want to leave the jw's.. there has been political discussion here for some time now, a good couple of years and it makes me feel a little uneasy.

i just opened up the site for the first time in some weeks, of the 10 posts being discussed, 4 were by the same poster, about politics, promoting their right wing beliefs.. this has been the trend for some time now, the same name behind a peppering of posts stirring the right v left of politics.. i remain forever grateful to the site and it's founders simon & angharad, i appreciate that simon shares some of these these political beliefs.

it would be a shame to see the site evolve from a place for jw freedom of thought and escape, to political squabbling, that the world is frankly tired of right now.. just to clarify, politics is my hobby, whilst my friends read the football scores, i'm reading polling data.

This passive aggressive comment says much about your view of the users of this forum.

I think healing after a JW life is likely a life long task. I don't come here because I am weak, though I once did. I now come 20 years later because I am strong and want to help people.

I do think that 19yrs on, if you are still posting your views here several times a day... either you have some serious healing yourself to do still, or an agenda.

Why I care about people who see racism everywhere

today, i was watching a tv show and a black celebrity in quebec said that his latest incident of racial profiling was being asked questions by the police as he was walking in a quiet neighborhood at 2am while wearing a hoody.

then the other guest next to him validated his claim saying that she, as a white women, was never stopped like this by the police.

i became very frustrated and agitated.

It simply feels sad to see the site dominated by people with such a political agenda.

I came here to heal and help. Political debate tends not to offer much to those things.

You really are arguing about a definition and description of evolution that no scientist or science is claiming pal. You are refuting a view on evolution that nobody is promoting.

I'm not sure if you are saying that this is your understanding/description of evolution or someone else's you have come across. Either way it is irrelevant as nobody in science is claiming it.

Start from scratch matey.....

What is your understanding of the scientific method? What is science? Who is science, who are scientists?

Before you state that this question is insulting or beneath you or irrelevant, in the context of you debating a view not held by science or a scientist, it could not be more relevant to appreciate what and who warrants your attention and precious time and energy. Please, tell me your perspective on 'science'.

fist of all my first language is not english so i apologise for any mistakes.i am 17 my whole family is jw.i am so sick of this i cry all the time i wasted my teen years doing nothing, no friends, no parties, no going out, no fun.i am scared for my life because if i tell them they will kick me out, i have no money to move out.i am curentlly studying the bible with my mom just because i am scared to tell her that i dont want to.please help me with some advice im begging.my life depends on this......

My advice is to make real, practical steps depending on the answers to some questions. Let's be honest and straight about your situation.....ask yourself....

What are the chances your parents will change their beliefs?

What are the chances of a good relationship with family if you leave JW's?

Where will you live, how will you take care of yourself if they shun you?

Most people here have been shunned and rejected by family, so we have advice based on real life expeirnces, of family abandonment and the loss of support networks. Most JW's are going to follow the rules snd shun even their children if they 'stop believing'. From experience, many here will tell you that even your closest, desrest friends, will abandon you surprisingly quickly. Even friEnde you have know your whole life.

Now ask what matters most to you? Being honest, living a truthful life, or an easier more comfortable life, but living a lie? ....... this is the big decision you have to make, you alone!.

TRUTH v COMFORT.

If you decide truth matters so much more to you, that you can't live a lie and remain a JW, then you must prepsre now for a post-JW life. I would advise you prepare for the worst but obviously hope for the best,

You don't yet realise how fortunate you are to see the facade and untruths of the JW's at such a young age, Imagine being a JW your whole life and figuring it out at age 85, or even 65 or even 40! Youth gone, life decisions made, opportunities lost. At your age, just 17 you are young enough to start your life over two or three more times! Also, well done to you for realisjng it isn't true at such a young age, most JW's never dare to even doubt!

So what PRACTICAL steps can you make?

Have a time frame and a plan in mind and you MUST try to stick to it, no matter what! If one night you and your family get emotional and you admit your feelings about the JW's, literally anything could happen, including being kicked out. I saw it happen a few times growing up in JW's.

So have a plan and time frame!

My advice would be to pick a route/career in higher education. Education is perfect for people leaving the JW's, it provides social support with people also 'starting over' in a new area, new life'. Depending on country, your gov may provide several years of loans for accommodation, food and study. Work hard, get your qualifications and support yourself financially.

So how to do this? First have a career in mind that you are interested or passionate about. Go online, look at university entrance requirements for those careers, check to make sure you have the grades for it. If you don't have the grades yet, that is ok, spend this next year getting those grades in night classes or any way you ca so you can apply as soon as possible. Even if it is a year or teomyears away, it's a plan! It will work! If you can't think of a specific career for higher education, choose a useful topic to get a degree in, physics, maths, economics, business, law, engineering, IT.... etc etc

If education is 100% not for you then you need a job lined up, that will support you financially and you need to start doingbthe calculations as soon as you can just in case they find out how you feel soon.

Lastly, consider family that aren't JW's. Do you have any? Would they support you for a few years, whilst getting a job and accommodation or through higher education?

It can be done, I felt my world crumble when I told the elders how I really felt about the JW's.....friends and most family were suddenly very far away. I felt very alone on a very big planet,

I did a year of high school grades (aged 26) then got into universitu for a 6 year degree. I went from being a window cleaner, pioneer, bethelite, with no prospects, no home, no money and almost overnight no friends and few family....... to now being a university lecturer, a medical doctor and I get married this year.

Make a plan, stick to it. It will be hard, lonely snd emotional, but you can survive this.

Truth or Comfort...... hard decision.

I used to feel exactly the same way, even laughing and mocking evolution educators for their beliefs, I mocked them as a JW kid in high school and then professors in university. Then I decided to look at the evidence for myself. I humbled my ego enough to recognise I didn't really have a clue what I was talking about or even understood the words I was using, as they were all phrases, terms and ideas passed on to me by JW literature. I was just parroting them.

The JW's had lied about so, so much , I didn't trust anyone, so I decided to explore the evidence for myself as the only person's motives I could be sure of ...were my own!

It takes seconds to dismiss a theory of science such and evolution, it also takes just seconds to read a religious explanation to an unknown such as 'god created the heavens and the earth.' I don't say this to judge, but to compare....it takes a very long time, years in fact, to explore academic literature. Even with grit, determination and huge amounts of effort it takes years to appreciate 'the science of evolutionary theory' .......it takes a good year or so to even appreciate fully what those words even mean. Not because you or religious people are ill equiped, but because this is immensely complex. How long would it take you to become expert enough in nuclesr fusion to be able to accept or defy latest theories in that field? Minutes, hours, weeks, months, years? Biology and genetic diversification is no different. We are all ignorant on this topic from birth!

What I concluded when I researched evolution is rightly IRRELEVANT to you, because it is MY answer and MY perspective snd your answer may differ, even if you walk the same path. I will tell you however, I am so ashamed that I mocked those educators. I am so ashamed to have mocked and doubted the integrity of such people as Darwin, Wallace and modern scientists. Darwin did more for exploring truth in one day of his exhausting hard work, than I did for half a lifetime as a JW, who the hell was I to mock or besmirch him? Scientists that spend their lives dedicated to trying to understand the universe better, how do we compare with what we accomplish for society and truth? Maybe that consideration will aid our humility in a beneficial way,

I truly hope you take the time to even just explore the topic.

By the way, the language and examples someone uses very quickly identifies how much scientific reading on the topic they have done. No offence but even your choice of words shows you don't have even the most basic understanding of natural selection, of evolution. That is not an insult, nobody is born with knowledge of nuclear fusion, quadratic equations or genetic mutation. It has to be worked hard at and earned.

PM me if you want some good book suggestions, I can help narrow that time spent researching and exploring, depending where you want/need to start. Many ex JW's don't appreciate the sub topics , i.e. physics leading to chemistry leading to biology, then under the umbrella of biology abiogenesis and only THEN diversification, genetic mutation, natural selection etc. Depending on where you want to start and how much you need to resd first, I can have plenty of sggestions.

Have you read much on the scientific method istelf? Do you appreciate what it means to 'do science'? Do you accept data if gathered appropriately via the scientific method? Best to start here if not!

Oh and one last thing, you are right..... an eye or an ear would have to be functional at every mutational state for it to dominate a species genetics. How on esrth did they evolve functionally over millions of years? Great question! Do you want to know the answer.....? The answers aren't hard to find and you can go as deep with the answers as you want. Try a very basic answer first, start with the evolution of an eye..... read this.....
