Whether you've expressed any apostateisms yet or not.....your MIL knows this:
1) You are bipolar
2) you are now drinking too much
3) You aren't studying
4) You aren't going to meetings
In her eyes, apostate talk or not.....you are already being controlled by Satan. She MUST step in now and save her daughter.
i started a thread a few days ago that probably went unnoticed for the most part (under "scandals & cover-ups") regarding steve hitting selma in tomorrow's wt study... i just wanted to recap it here for those who may have missed it.... the spanish version changes the story completely.... if you've read that paragraph 12 it basically says that steve hit selma as she tried to prove a point.
selma then feels sorry for herself.. in the spanish version steve merely gets furious with her and she gets sad.. by the way, i just looked up the italian version... .

Wow my friend.....you are in up to your eyeballs. I have a similar situation. Wife feels like I betrayed her. Her mother and to a much greater degree her father came running to the rescue....filling the "void" i've left. Like my wife....your wife isn't ready to leave yet. She will find a way to justify all the errors, lies, hypocrisy etc so she can maintain her cherished belief. It is SO much more complicated when her family (in your case MIL)is involved because to MIL.....YOU are being used by Satan. Your MIL feels like it is her DUTY to step in and make sure your wife carries onward in the borg. And because your wife likely trusts her own mother.... feelings of doubt or curiosity will probably be expressed to her........your MIL will take that opportunity to squash those questions and any indepedent thinking that accompanies them.
Having MIL around is definitely complicating matters.....but you can't exactly keep her away either. If anything...MIL will want to be around MORE because she has to look out for her daugher's spirituality. And your wife will look at her own mother and see (in her eyes) that she is being loving and helpful. If you try to keep MIL away.....you run the risk of looking like an ogre that is trying to express apostate ideas to your wife AND keep your wife from her family. In other words.....you would fit the mold of the "angry apostate" that the borg has painted for everyone.

let's put things in perspective, since the wts claims to be the channel god has choosen.
2014 will mean virtually nothing. The borg has already begun training the next generation of witnesses to live as though the end is close......but at the same time......preparing them in case it doesn't come during their lifetime. By extending the "generation" definition.....they've easily bought themselves decades upon decades of time in the future. Diehards like my father in law have already digested the new definition of "generation" and are at peace that the "end" will likely not occur within their lifetimes. Thus the older ones are preparing both themselves and the younger generation to 1) accept that those over 50 years of age may not see the end and 2) accept that those UNDER 50 probably WILL see the "end".
This will continue until the baby boomers die off. Then GB 3.0 will come up with a new interpretation that will delay the Big A even further. That's when my generation will pick up the slack and accept that we are all going to die.....but there is HOPE that OUR children will see the Big A.
All it takes is a minor tweaking here or there and it will become a perpetual thing.

I agree. Don't give up. But Shawn is right. You are not the parent thus you have no control over whether or not the child will ever entertain a relationship with you. Be prepared for the child to be indoctrinated as she grows older. Be prepared for her to turn a cold shoulder to you when she is old enough to do it for herself (instead of her parents doing it for her).
It is sad and heart breaking.....but the likely future shunning you will receive from her is not her fault

Tough question
Overall.....I agree with Perry that eliminating religion would be a form of control and would be the opposite of promoting freedom. Yet I also believe that religion in and of itself has spawned so much lunacy, wars and hatred. But if I had to choose....I'd say yes....the world would be a better place without religion.
We don't need belief in a religion or even in God in order to live moral lives. We don't need God to tell us that it is wrong to take another person's life. We don't need God to tell us that swindling an old lady out of her life savings is inhuman. If religion didn't exist we would still have as humans....a built in moral compass that tells us wrong from right. All the while.....there would be one less reason for people to hate and kill

The best way to live is to "take care of the widows and orphans". Volunteer. Give your time to help those less fortunate than you. If God would really rather I spend my time preaching what MY beliefs are (who knows if they are correct).....rather than truly helping people......then that's not a God I want to serve.

Yeah.....we're at the tail end of a pretty bad economic recession. It happens. Let me ask you a question. Would you rather live in the "bad" times we live in today.....or would you rather live during the dark ages when there was no religious freedom, the average life expectancy was about 40 and a family of 14 shared a one bedroom hut with the local plague infested rats?
People make statements like "I can tell we are nearing the "end" because times are getting bad" yet all they have to back up their claims are emotion and misleading statistics. JWs do this consistently. Is this sytem really "running out of time".....or do you simply WISH that was the case?
Apocolyptic thinkers like to focus on the bad and overlook the good. They like to point out that murders have increased in XYZ city the last 50 years....but like to ignore the fact that overall population has increased as well....and that the murder per capita has actually not changed. They like to point out that world wide natural disasters have caused record amounts worth of $ damage.....but they ignore that with standard inflation and increased standards of living for the civilized world....of course the dollar losses are going to amount to more than they did years ago! They like to point out that cancer is causing more deaths in the U.S than ever before......but again.....they don't consider it PER CAPITA......nor do they realize that there is also a record number of cancer SURVIVORS in the US than ever before........due to the result of modern medicine.
Yes, some things are worse (kids these days like to listen to listen to that rackety rap and rock & roll music with immoral lyrics), but some things are better too (I happen to enjoy air conditioning and the modern light bulb). The point being.....if a person wants to believe that the world is "getting worse".....then he will find a way to make the belief a reality. He will misuse statistics. Or he will selectively choose which statistics to focus on. Or like most witnesses, when he can't find the right stats.....then he'll just say "I just FEEL like things are definitely getting worse".
