Agreed will everyone. Do you have family in? I understand how badly you want to distance yourself from this cult, but don't break out of jail unless you have first planned your jailbreak

MsGrowingGirl20 is no longer one of......
by MsGrowingGirl20 ini am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses(well mentally that is)---however i am a christian...i recently started reading different translations from www.biblegateway.com...jesus is so different to how the jw's teach....and god...i mean, i still am learning and confused about certain things but i am in love with them.... it's obvious that the jw's are not an organization of god.i don't think god is working through an organization but through individuals...however i am going to speak to an elder tomorrow about my issues---all of them---and i'm going to tell him everything--what i've been reading, where i got it from---everything!!
i'm not hiding anything!
i have done no wrong....i just want to be a true christian and if they disfellowship me for seeking answers then this is not where i need to be.

Good job outsmartthesystem!! Do you mind if I write my aunt about your letter. Although my aunt has not been closely associated with NOW recently, she was very active in NOW in the 1960's and 1970's in Manhattan.
Please go right ahead. The more people that are exposed to the workings of this cult the better

Tomorrow's Watchtower Study: Steve hits Selma in North America... not South America
by Alfred ini started a thread a few days ago that probably went unnoticed for the most part (under "scandals & cover-ups") regarding steve hitting selma in tomorrow's wt study... i just wanted to recap it here for those who may have missed it.... the spanish version changes the story completely.... if you've read that paragraph 12 it basically says that steve hit selma as she tried to prove a point.
selma then feels sorry for herself.. in the spanish version steve merely gets furious with her and she gets sad.. by the way, i just looked up the italian version... .

Cedars - I've not tried your make-weight scenario in such a direct fashion yet but I like how you've worded it. One day, when the timing is right...I'll give it a shot. Knowing her.....I think she'll come back with "those weren't falsehoods.....they were 'past truths'. I don't consider it to be a falsehood if it accomplishes Jehovah's purpose at that time". To which I would respond with "and what did this non-truth accomplish?" To which she will respond with "we'll see in the future....but obviously the organization is growing so for whatever reason....even though we no longer believe it.....what was taught back then was the proper food for the brothers AT THAT TIME".
Either that or she'll turn to the account of Isaac getting tricked by Jacob. Isaac wanted to give his blessing to Esau.....but that sneaky Jacob tricked his old man! Thus Jehovah ended up blessing Jacob instead. The moral of the story? Jehovah approved of Jacob's trickery. If Jehovah approved of deceit coming from a faithful servant there's no reason not to believe that Jehovah wouldn't likewise approve of a few mistakes coming from his modern day faithful servant.

I understand what you're saying Cedars. I sometimes have trouble taming my combattive side. The problem is that I've tried your approach. I actually have a full copy of The Finished Mystery at home......and I'm about 1/3 of the way through it. (wow...it is a PAINFUL read) I am hi-liting all the gems. The problem is that my wife has been properly indoctrinated to not care about old light. Even when you bring out that Jesus would have supposedly made his "selection" based on the "truths" that were being taught at that time. She'll say "yes....all that stuff was wrong.....but everyone has to make their own decisions....and I think that Jesus still picked them".
I only thought about bringin up the whole Selma issue because certain acts of sexism will get her going. I figured I might strike a nerve

Finished Mystery (1917)... The book that Jesus approved...
by Alfred inso a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.

Take this time (since you are no longer an MS....you won't be giving talks and leading out in FS) to do some serious research on all your questions. Do your research OUTSIDE of society based publications. Use this time wisely!

I went to the ASSembly
by MrFreeze ini didn't think i'd ever have a reason to go back to the assembly but my sister was getting baptised so i told her i would go.
i would still like to keep on decent terms with my family who is still in.
otherwise, i would have said no.. there were only a five people that got baptised (four kids and one elderly person).

"I have a small beard as well as long hair and a sister said "You should come back to the meetings. Then we'll work on cutting that beard and trimming that hair." I asked "Why would we have to do that?" "You need to look presentable."
I would have said....."what makes a cleanly trimmed beard unpresentable.....but a bushy mustache like brother so and so ok? Do you have solid scriptural evidence for your opinion or is it based on unscriptural organizational legalism?"

"I just wish I could have convinced my sister to not get baptised. She's only 11! How can you make a life-altering decision like that at 11 years old? I did it at 12 so I see where her head is though. "
That's the point......get them to commit to the mind control techniques when they are young!

First and foremost....a big thanks to Cedars. I gleaned some of these points from him. I sent this letter as well as a copy of the article to NOW.
To the Director:
My name is Sickandtired Ofcults. My wife is an active Jehovah’s Witness. Though not an active Witness myself, I do sometimes read their literature. What is alarming to me is the continually demeaning rhetoric about women being virtually second-rate citizens in comparison with their “head” – man. I am sure you are very familiar with fundamentalist Christian teachings as there are many groups and sects that teach the same things.
But I feel that the enclosed article is different. The article is written from the standpoint of trying to help “divided” households (those where one mate is a Jehovah’s Witness and the other is not) maintain happiness. But the article takes a very dangerous fundamentalist turn with paragraph 12. By liberally applying 1 Peter 3:1 & 2 as well as 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, the writers of this article clearly insinuate that it is proper for a wife to endure physical violence from her husband so that, in time, she can “win him over without a word”. In other words, her mild reaction to his physical violence my cause him to soften….the violence may stop….and he eventually may decide to become a Jehovah’s Witness too.
The following may easily be ascertained as well:
1) A wife that is trying to “prove her point” with her husband might be demonstrating a lack of Christian qualities (particularly those described in 1 Cor 13:4-7) and if the husband were to then hit his wife, it would be understandable
2) Feeling sad and apprehensive is not a proper way to respond to being physically harmed by your husband. Instead, a wife should think about how to show more love to him
3) A husband who receives the proper “acts of love” from his wife is probably less likely to hit her, therefore if a wife wishes to remain unharmed physically, it is partially incumbent on her to show those proper “acts of love”.
4) If a wife considers it completely unacceptable to be physically harmed by her husband, she may need to have her thinking “readjusted”
The Watchtower Society (organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses) is very well known for giving improper advice throughout the decades….from advice on foregoing a college education……to the damnation of vaccines. I just feel like we’ve reached a point in society where such reckless suggestions and insinuations as what you will read in the enclosed article should no longer be swept under the rug. I believe this is a dangerous sect whose rhetoric and treatment of women is not in tune with the reality of modern day equality for all. My hope is that your organization will read the attached article and may help publicize the enduring primitive culture that has been and still is the Watchtower Society.
If you have any questions or comments, you may feel free to contact me via my work email address which is [email protected] I thank you for your time and consideration
Best regards,
Me

wha - did you ask her what the meaning of the paragraph was to her? That when looked at realistically, the english version is telling those in America that they may need to endure physical violence in order to "win over" their husbands.....while those in Mexico may only need to endure verbal thrashings.
On another note.....it has been about a month since my wife and i have argued about "the truth". I am contemplating printing out both the english and spanish versions and asking her why it is ok to insinuate to the english speaking populace that wives may need to accept physical violence from their husbands......while insinuating to the spanish speaking populace that they may need to endure only verbal violence. Think I should?
