This is interesting. I never visited Bethel for similar reasons as yours. In addition, my mind was made up against going from the time they required visitors to dress in a certain way as if they were setting their feet on holy ground.

Musings About God
by alg1052 ini recently found a websight that is non-denominational, musingsaboutgod.com.
it answers bible questions that many have asked reasonably which makes a lot of sense.

THE FLOOD - What's Jehovah's problem now?
by sizemik inthis question has been bugging me for a while now .
since the last thread on the biblical flood.. it's like this .
.. immediately prior to the flood, jehovah had deemed the earth full of badness, totally wicked and "ruined" .

There are many things the Bible does not tell us. We do not know what the situation was in heaven prior to man or for the most part the earth being formed. It is obvious that something was going on due to the fact God allowed Adam and Eve to be tempted by Satan. The deck was truly stacked against Adam. Man is basically used as guinea pigs in settling questions made at a the heavenly level.
God is very patient. He allows time for things to play out. Prior to the flood he may have allowed disobedient angels to reveal themselves . In addition, we do not know what rules were set up in settling the issues.
It does appear that there are 3 Armageddon events, Noah's flood, Armageddon and after Christ's thousand year reign.
1. Noah's Flood: Reasons have been discussed.
2. Armageddon: Clensing the Earth of the failing man made system under the influence of Satan. Faith is important in our current system. (John 3:16)
3. After 1000 year reign: After mankind (resurrected and armageddon survivors) is brought to perfection. Satan will have the opportunity to finally test a fully informed perfect mankind (does not appear faith will be an issue). This will give man the opportunity to choose whether or not they want to live under God's rulership. Some may question as to why the final test after Christ's 1000 year reign? There are millions of angels watching as this earthly drama unfolds. When it concludes all questions concerning God's universal sovereignty will be settled.
Thinking about all of the innocent people that have died. These people will have the benefit of the ressurection.

Gen 6:1-13. All we have is God's word. You have faith in it or you don't. Heb 11:1

Remember that Angels had materialized and mated with women resulting with the freakish Nephilim. By cleaning the Earth of the Nephilim and their overall influence in addition with removing the ability of the demonic angels to materialize. Thus allowing righteous Noah and his family to survive without the direct interferance of Satan and Demons the issues that Satan made still had to be settled. God wanted to make sure all the legal questions were answered and the matter closed forever. This took additional time.
Noah and his family still had the inherited sin passed down from Adam. The ransome price had yet to be paid.
Before the flood the Earth was in dis-order. The flood represented the the great judge Jehovah banging the gavel bringing order to the court.

The ''truth'' that lead me to question the WTS.
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe truth that leads to eternal life says on page 13:.
we need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with whichwe may be associated.
are its teachings in full harmony with god's word, or are they based on the traditions of men?

Waking Up From a 34 Year Slumber.
by alg1052 injuly 11, 2011 will be 34 years since i was baptised as one of jw's.
the sleeping pill i took was in the form of them providing the information that made the bible come alive with the truth and insisting that they go by the bible not adding or taking away from it.
i had negative experiences from local brothers from time to time, however i excused them as part of being imperfect.

I have read Ray Franz's 1st book Crises and down to the final 2 chapters of the Christian Freedom book. Both are eye opening and confirms many of my thoughts I have had throughout the years.

I would like to add 1 additional point to my blog. The main reason that I have not left JW's is Matt 24:14. Who is known for preaching God's kingdom wherever they can? One of the fruitages of the spirit is long suffering. And I am exercizing long suffering as I continue my association with this Pharasee like organization.
It's amazing that they do not make self application of what Jesus said concerning traditions, stumbling his loyal ones, false prophesying and so on. If Jesus materialized and joined a congregation, he would probably end up disfellowshipped.
