  Are apostates stopping the WT from mainstreaming?

  i was thinking about this un thing.

  on one of the threads, someone had commented how the wt's association with the un would explain a lot of the changes in wt policy regarding blood, disfellowshipping etc.

  i think this is likely.. it is entirely possible therefore, that the un association has been a good thing.

  Bathory, allow me to follow up with another example. I know a
  Bethelite who been there a number of years, married, an elder,
  and holds some responsibility.

  I know he would probably score very well on an IQ test.

  That doesn't stop me from thinking of him as a willing idiot,
  however. When he talks to me at a district assembly about how
  glorious everything is in the organization, I feel like I'm
  talking to a four year old child. He, and countless others
  like him prostitute their God-given intellect and powers of
  reason to carefully preserve their dumbed down faith. He reasons
  like a four year old because that's what he's trained himself
  to do.

  I've personally known GB members (live and dead). I'm not
  impressed.

  you raise a good point - one that's been brought up before at the
  old h20.

  I don't worry much about creating such an impediment to the
  Society's effort to go mainstream. I think it ought to be clear
  from the recent special meeting that the leadership is utterly
  uninspired and clueless. They believe that any trouble they get
  into will blow over in a couple of weeks or be explained away.
  Keep in mind, too, that the Society is not a monolith, any more than
  Communism was. I expect that most of the mainstreaming effort
  comes from the "men in the middle", who chip away at the rigid
  Taliban-like structure of doctrine and practise.

  Actually internet exposure probably accelerates the process of
  compromise because it emboldens both those who are creating
  the mainstreaming ("Wow!, look what we can do/find out about!")
  --- and it emboldens others who realize that they can lie their
  way out of anything, defy any set of facts, and still command the
  unswerving loyalty of countless braindead Witnesses. They must
  laugh themselves silly behind the scenes at their fantastic ability
  to get away with anything in the mindset of these willing suckers.

  Ever look into the eyes of a Labrador Retriever -you repeat their
  name and they wag their tail? - pretty much Joe Average Witness
  isn't it?

  ANNUAL MEETING ... Silverdome

  i want to barf.

  i was wondering when the hell samuel herd was going to shut up.. blab blab blab.... aren't we wonderful, oh we are so wonderful.. about the only thing that was said that i could see as being something which the gb would see as touchy enough to warant the multiple announcements for " no tape recorders, no video recorders and no computer note taking" would be the statement by herd that there's "going to be a lot off killing, billions will die ....in swift fashion".

  and the other gb (fill in the name) who talked about being in the new world "in two hundred years".... wow.. that's leaving enough prophetic lee-way for the gb heirs to the thrones.. much emphasis was placed on the "...two roads to the new system ...the high road and the low road".

  Maybe the simplest explanation is best.

  They don't see any real threat to their control of
  the organization. They aren't worried about lawsuits,
  exposure, lying, false doctrine, declining revenue,
  the exodus of young people, or much else. They are so
  self-assured as to their imaginary place in God's purpose,
  they just don't care - a few hours of boring speeches
  suits them just fine.

  Never forget Henschel's reaction to the malaise after
  1975. Basically, it was "don't worry, have everyone stop
  talking about it and the problem will go away". It took
  a huge effort just to move these elderly deadheads
  to publish that Watchtower about prophetic "tacking into
  the wind". When you hear rumors that they expect any
  molestation controversy to blow over in a couple weeks,
  you can believe you're getting a glimpse into their
  mindset.

  and given the blind, zombie-like obedience of their
  depressed Witness thralls, they may have a point.

  1) I found out my daughter was molested and the elders knew
  about it, lied, and covered it up.

  2) The Bulgarian thing convinced me the leadership lies
  to save themselves - and betrays the friends.

  How have appointed bros handled leaving the WTS

  i'm debating on when to actually decide and step down as a ministerial servant.

  my conscience will no longer allow me to give talks or speak to others in the door-to-door work.. i'm feeling really apprehensive about what i need to do, i know for a fact that my wife is going to be devestated.. .

  whats the best way to step down from an appointed position?

  Easy as pie! You are depressed! Write them a letter saying
  depression prevents you accepting any responsibility. Stop
  going out in service - don't give any talks.
  Do the same with your wife - take it real slow - years
  of brainwashing won't evaporate overnight.(I know!)

  As you may know, the Society announced some time ago
  that MS's and elders's are NOT ALLOWED TO RESIGN! This is no joke-
  check with your congregation secretary and he'll have the official
  letter in his file. They have to agree to let you resign.

  Arrogant bastards, aren't they? Remember you are depressed!

  Pearl Harbor reaction? What do you expect from this
  pack of liars? They spoke of Armageddon being "months"
  away - and then blamed the rank and file for getting their
  hopes up as WW2 ended. I believe the "Consolation"
  showed Hitler and Catholics in a conga line going into
  Armageddon. It's a pity so much of that material isn't
  available - it was really funny!

  Beth Sarim Revisited 4 Newbies

  at 4440 braeburn road, san diego, ca., in the rich and prestigious neighborhood of the kensington heights neighborhood sits one of the biggest embarrassments in the long and continuing list of embarrassments the watchtower society has created for itself.. most dubs know nothing about it, and if it wasnt for a few brief comments about it in the proclaimers book in 1993, even fewer dubs would know anything at all about it.. it is the home once known as beth-sarim (pronounced beth-sareeeem), the house of the princes.. it is a house with a history the society has shown by its historical lack of candor, hopes everyone would forget.

  in fact, the society has done just about everything it could do to ensure that its history will be forgotten.

  in the first book devoted to discussing the history of jehovahs witnesses, this house and its history is not even mentioned.

  property outside of a cemetary. DNA testing could determine
  identity.

  Alas, for the portion of humanity left behind technologically
  things get very bleak, indeed. Notice that Africa doesn't
  even get a mention in many serious or fictional extrapolations
  into the future. I admit this is the downside to the
  peaceful, technically advanced world order. Entire nations
  will kill themselves off with disease and internal war.
  The Afghans have largely depopulated their own country with
  war. I'm starting to wonder if places like Thailand may do
  the same with AIDS.

  I contribute to CARE and Amnesty Int'l but not with a lot
  of hope for these people.

  What "capitalism"?? Social democracy is the order
  (or should I say NEW ORDER) of the day. The U.S.
  has Social Security, Welfare, and a government that
  regularily intervenes in the economy.

  I'm sure they'll be street scuffles about globalism-
  by protesters drinking Diet Coke and Starbucks coffee.
  But it will be extremely difficult to articulate any
  organized coherent opposition to the dominance of
  Western culture - except among the very poor and very
  isolated (like Afghans).

  As for the End of History, the author was being too
  conservative! Advances in medicine and anti-aging
  will accelerate the trend towards a boringly placid
  world.
