A few years back, the Society told congregation
secretaries to gather up copies of individual letters
and put them in a binder. They presented a long list
of what letters were necessary and elders went about
trading xeroxed copies for each others collections.

The letters dealt with child abuse, disfellowshipping,
immigration, all sorts of things pre-decided by the
Society. All the while I helped put the congregation's
collection together, I thought "these are the responsa,
the decisions of the holy rabbis, the theocratic
TALMUD!".
And it's a secret torah, available only to the elders,
not women or children -kept in the congregations file
by the secretary.

I used to wonder why the Watchtower went through a spate
of secondary articles about rabbinic Judaism, almost as if
they admired the stuff.
I stopped wondering after I put that long collection together.

The August 22, 1967 Awake has an article entitled
"I Do Not Permit a Woman to Exercise Authority
over a Man -- Why?" (pg. 27).

It says:
"Thus a leading authority on the human body .. tells the
interesting fact that as regards the human skull there is

time of puberty; but then as adulthood is reached the

Well, there you have it. The 'faithful and discreet
slave' has spoken!

I offer the above as evidence of the Society's current
inability to defend it's doctrine publically. Sure,
they can quote a few scriptures, but for a great many
topics they're mired in impotence, unable to explain
themselves.

investigating, and judging individuals , while also
threatening anyone else who disagrees.

Someone wisely pointed out that you don't give a
puppy or kitten to a very young child. They may treat
it as a toy and cause horrible suffering to the
animal. Likewise, putting organizational shunning power
in the hands of ignorant, careless men, who
"screw up" (didn't the Society's representative say
that?) is unconscionable.

While disfellowshipping enjoys the protection of
court precedent, there are some possible ways to fight
against it - such as:

Defamation of character or slander - if they are
foolish enough to widely inform others that you are
a fornicator/adulterer/unchristian, etc. , you may
have grounds for a suit. The Society STOPPED TELLING
THE AUDIENCE WHAT A PERSON IS DF'D FOR years ago
because of this. A lady in Oklahoma won a judgement
against her church in the 80's that created the
precedent.

If you are employed or legally bound with a contract
to Witnesses and feel you are being harassed or
discriminated against, you might consider legal action.
Court precedent says they can wreck your business,
but I'd like to see what happens if someone claims
discrimination because they're gay (in some states).

Be polite but refuse to slink away. If they feel uneasy
about your presence, that's their problem. While a
Kingdom Hall is private property, public areas are
something else - and your house is still your home.

If you want to talk with old friends, do it out of
sight of other Witnesses. Better yet, USE THE INTERNET!
Many Witnesses are commonly using e-mail and chat rooms
to speak with anyone they care to. Perhaps they know
your identity and no one else does.

Keep telling government officials that Jehovah's
Witnesses are automatically excommunicated for
joining any branch of the armed services of that
nation. Since the elders take action to inform the
congregation, the claim that they disassociated
themselves, willingly, is a lie. This needs more
attention because it could affect tax exemption
and legal recognition in many places.

Keep chipping away at this cruel system. Keep in mind
that the Society (Writing staff included) has known
for years that their system of "justice" is unscriptural
but refuses to change it. Like blood, Gentile Times,
the position of women and countless other doctrines,
they can't defend their views WITH ANY DEPTH, IN PUBLIC
VIEW!

And don't forget,
you've got the Brooklyn Gerontocrats scared!
That's why they keep having convention parts
insisting that you keep on shunning your
disfellowshipped relatives and friends.

It's about holding on to power, no matter
who gets hurt, folks.

There's a correlation in societies between life span and having
kids. Increase life span and people stop having so many children.

You got the psychology backwards, Removing mortality makes
ecology and everything else better. Living longer makes people
less likely to trash the planet - without mortality breathing
down your back, you can take the long view.

The experimental drug ALT-711 is in Phase IIb trials and so far
shows great promise. If it is ever approved, it will be marketed
as a hypertension drug - although in fact, it would be the first
anti-aging drug in human history. It breaks protein cross-links
i.e. it removes hardening of arteries, age-breakdown of muscles,
and.....possibly wrinkles in skin. (Alteon Co.)

Eukarion is developing synthetic antioxidants that showed a 50%
increase in lifespan of simpler organisms. Mice tests are underway.
The cellular mechanisms involved would appear to apply to any
living creature.

It's going to happen
It's just a matter of time

And it will change everything.

i have a question:.

if the wtbts is so into deceiving everyone and trying to reel in as many newcomers as possible, what does it actually have to gain from this?

why are they always trying to switch teachings to make themselves look "believable"?

with it? If you're old and broken down, how much enjoyment
can money buy you?

Sex? Well, you're old and creaky, maybe the flag pole

Which category do you think he put himself in?

These are the same guys who handed out autographed Bibles to
Cuban officials -- Ironic, huh? One group of leaders representing
a fossilized ideology meeting with another group of fossils.

Mainstreaming and the Greatest Mystery

Nicodemus, you are always articulate and caring.

This is a difficult point. What happens to the 'loyal'?
To survive, they must deny, deny, deny. They must close
their eyes and downshift their thinking to a three year
old's level. I know a 30ish Bethelite - nice guy and
intelligent - ask him anything pointed and the answer
sounds like kindergarden. All good is from Jehovah,
All problems from Satan, how can anyone do that?

What happens to these people? I don't know.
I suspect they may 'crack up' all of a sudden,
without even knowing why. I believe people have
a sub-conscious -- and a "higher self". If the conscious
mind keeps pushing, eventually the mind and body break.
I believe this is partly why so many Witnesses are
depressed and suffer from strange chronic diseases.

I was a keen observer of the multiple personality
disorder fad in the organization (and the quack therapy
that came with it). I think it happened because of
emotional desperation - people trying to escape the
constraints of nihilistic Witness life.

I'm afraid more weirdness is coming....

Prevalence of JW Suicides - Real or Imagined?

in one or two recent threads i've seen reference to the possibility of a rising number of jw suicides being another of the organization's very dark realities about which it is vigilant in keeping concealed from its pub populace.

is there anyone reasonably informed regarding this?

is there reason to suppose the incidence ratio among jws is any higher than among any peoples/religion?
