The key to understanding such bilge emitted by broad-
gauge liars is to read between the lines.

Look at the "Boss's" comment about how even people in
Germany, Britain and Poland are listening. "Even"??

I'd say they worry about those areas a lot.
In fact, I'd say much of this reveals a spirit of glee
that it happened so they can benefit - and false hope
that people are starting to listen to their deceitful message of
concealed doom.("Whew! Something to distract people from that
child molester stuff")

Their exploitation of human misery isn't going to
buy them much, long-term. What's gonna happen in a
year or two when the whole thing is fixed and the
economy is growing again?

Oh, I forgot - that will be "Peace and Security"

I can remember when the WTS took a wad of cash (70K??)
from the U.N. for relief of refugees from Malawi during
the 70's. We thought it was kinda weird but if you think of them
as just another government offering free money, it didn't
seem so bad. I think some brother was questioned for doing
cleaning or maintenance at the U.N. back then (Zelda Chyke
gossiped about this ??).

We were all just suckers, I guess

To the average Witness, any discord in the world inspires thoughts
that Armageddon is near. Yet, there is a better explanation than
this superficial, knee-jerk reaction.

We are witnessing the End of History.

Some years ago, a brilliant book was written called The End of
History (Fukiyama, I think). It's thesis is that history is a record
of conflict, war and battle. If you eliminate that conflict, you
don't have much history to record. The book claims that historical
struggles are coming to an end because humans are moving towards
universal recognition that social democracy is the only moral,
legitimate and effective form of government for humans. Add world
trade and globalization, and national struggles evaporate.

Communism, as an alternative, died out.
We are now seeing desperate efforts of radical Islamic culture
fighting to prevail while Western culture and technology leave them
in the dust. All the West needs now is an inexpensive new source
of energy and Islamic cultures will sink into permanent obscurity.
Ask yourself if Libya or Saudia Arabia has agriculture (no),
industry(no), mining (no), abundant water sources (no) or
a trained technological populace (no). Take away the oil wealth
and they will be forgotten.

A new world is being born, indeed!
For many, the greatest challenge will be living
without the excitement of war - or tragedy

But we still have a few years yet to go
before we fully reach that state of being, as humans.

for quite a while now, the watchtower has been reacting to.

severe controversies with ambiguous replies.. this is a dramatic change from the decades when they plainly.

It was felt that to do otherwise violated the sacred responsibility
of a prophet of Jehovah - if something was wrong or a tool of the
Devil, they said so. Some quoted from Titus "Concerning these
things make firm assertions constantly.."

Well, no more - what does this new habit of ambiguity signify?

If you want to know, have your wife or girlfriend ask you
"Honey, do you love me?"

If your reply is anything but an emphatic YES - if you hesitate
and give a qualified answer - you will transmit the message
that SOMETHING IS WRONG.

The Watchtower leaders could, even now, say loudly and publically,

"WE DO NOT SUPPORT THE UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATION!"
They could say,
"DO NOT VOTE!"
or
"DO NOT TAKE ANY BLOOD OR FRACTIONS!"

But they aren't going to disavow a course of action that
may earn them tax benefits, or legal privledges.
They will continue to 'bend the truth', to hide behind self-
invented meanings of common words,and cower when caught lying.

They will do this because, unlike the wife or girlfriend you
love, they have come to love the whoring they condemned others for
doing - and that isn't too strong a word, here, when you combine
pretense, false affections, and payment for hire, willingly and
freely entered into. If you think my opinion here is too ugly,
you need to review what kind of illustrations prophets like
Ezekiel used to describe a corrupt organization that claimed
to be Jehovah's people in his own time. ("hung like horses",
remember?)

it would take to finally awaken Witness zombies

I'm enjoying this exposure of the current situation
in which they suckered publishers about support of
the U.N. It's a lot of fun. Yet, how much will it
accomplish? They dodged their deceit about 1975 and
suckered Witnesses in for yet more decades (mea culpa!).
If obvious false prophecy doesn't stop them, what
does? I'm starting to think these corrupt old geezers
could give Bill Clinton lessons on pulling your pants up
off the floor and saying you didn't do anything.

Can this sick cult survive like the Vatican? -
sofisticated diplomats and agnostic clerics at the top
and poor peasants who crawl on bleeding knees to
the local cathedral, at the bottom?

Again, the best hope for "reform" may be the "men in
the middle" - the Society lawyers, C.O.'s, the guys
who are highly skilled, they can't do without.
These men (and some women) may be the greatest force
for change in the organization. I believe they are
quietly getting sick of the whole ugly mess - and
just like the young Soviets who wanted rock music
and blue jeans instead of empty propaganda,

they may crash the whole system. ( and maybe lead lesser
Witness-zombies towards a nice relaxed Unitarianism)

I'm reminded of a point made in the Whole Earth News
magazine - that stupidity can be worse than theft because
a thief might at least benefit himself, his friends or
his family, in contrast to a stupid person, who may
injure himself and everyone around him.

It takes some real meditation to figure out how the
Watchtower Society managed to lie about the U.N. with
such breathtaking stupidity. There is, however, precedence
for this boneheaded venality.

Before going to college came into vogue among Witnesses,
the Society ran into trouble at Bethel because they
aren't getting the kind of technically skilled volunteers
they desparately need. So, without saying anything,
they started sending trusted Bethelites to college.
Word started getting around the congregations about this
and they then came out with that Watchtower that said
it's OK if you pioneer.
Expediency before doctrine

Then, there was the flurry of marriage proposals that
erupted in Bethel - after Nathan H. Knorr decided that
the imminent END of the System didn't prevent him from
taking a wife. - Expediency first!

Maybe this expediency will turn into reform,
if the world forces them to change (it is!).

Who knows what they might lie about next
in their quest for survival?

Its 'fits and starts' - American patriotism isn't the
jingoistic thing it was historically. An American
President urging respect for Islam isn't something
you'd expect in the days of McKinley or Teddy Roosevelt.

The world will emerge stronger and better - when this
is over. Look at some comments by Witnesses! They give
up hoping this leads into Armageddon and instead start
droning on about how it's part of Peace And Security.

challenges, to be sure. Any one of these obstacles will doom
them, if left unchecked:

Mass exodus of youth
Declining revenues
Continuing exposure and collapse of doctrine
Corruption amidst leadership

Yet, there remains a powerful challenge whose very existence
I would have found beyond all belief only a decade ago.

The challenge of a moral world

For some, who look only at the surface, such a claim seems
like nonsense - a world where gays openly proclaim their
lifestyle - a world drawing Witness kids into "fornication"
- a world still full of every sort of fear and threat.

Yet, I am astounded at the profoundly altruistic response of
so many strangers - is this the NYC where I was mugged years
ago? Where I always walked glancing over my shoulder?( I still do!)
I am amazed by a government that preaches toleration in unity,
condemning attacks and insults directed towards people from
the Middle East. Things have changed a great deal since the
Nisei were put in internment camps during WW2.

The good that exists in this human world is winning. Even amidst
the horror and tragedy - and coming war- thru fits and starts,
the world is improving ethically. Men like Gandhi and Martin
Luther King led the way, sacrificing themselves - and thereby
creating shame amidst those who claimed the status of "Christian".

Increasingly, the Watchtower will face a grim choice of compromise
- or hiding its cult-like aims behind glossy propaganda - and
then encountering SHAME and "loss of face" whenever its gospel
of fear and clannish selfcenteredness is exposed. Are they in trouble in Europe? Good! Let them keep hiding their real teachings about
Armageddon's intended victims while peddling Awakes that speak
of sympathies THEY DON'T FEEL! Let them fight for tax exemptions
they don't merit! (charity? towards worldly people?)

I went to a college graduation some months back
They played "America the Beautiful" and sang its words.

I cried

because the goal of brotherhood , long elusive and thought
impossible, is being achieved. Yes, Virginia, the world is
getting better, little by little - and good luck to the WTS
in such an environment!
