Thanks Orphan Crow. Too bad about the overcast. The sky here was clear but the moon was incredibly dim, it took a while to find it since I really didn't know where to look.

a question after my first JW meeting
by bleak ini attended my first jw meeting recently.
first, i would like to say what i agree with about the jehovah's witnesses beliefs and practices.. 1. they don't consider israeli's as "god's chosen people" and they don't worship israel as some holy land filled with righteous jews (although there are some there) as most so-called "christians" (christian zionists) erroneously believe they are instead of the "hypocrites" and "vipers" that it is actually filled with.. 2. they don't celebrate "holidays" like easter and christmas which are, in fact, remnants of earlier pagan practices.. 3. they don't put nation before god and christ.
they don't believe in war or going to war because of some crazy government/cia secret agenda.

Well I would like to say that i disagree with every doctrine that is unique to Jehovah's Witnesses including:
1. that 99.9% of the worlds population will be destroyed at Armageddon (everyone who is not a JW)
[snip]
the list goes on and on.Bleak: "I didn't know that stuff but I knew they wouldn't tell me if it's true or not LOL."
You are right Bleak. The fact is that JWs have two responses to almost everything - there is the answer they give to the public or interested people for public relations purposes, and there is the real answer.
If you asked them directly if they believe that everyone but Jehovah's Witnesses will be destroyed at Armageddon, they will likely give you an evasive answer such as 'Oh no, we believe that God does the judging - He decides who lives or dies.' This is intended to satisfy the listener but it is very misleading and evades the question.
Most people would agree that God does the judging, but the question was 'Do you believe that everyone will be destroyed at Armageddon except JWs?' The real answer is a definite Yes but they don't like to admit it to newly interested people.

Well, nothing would survive if we didn’t pass it down to our children. The human race wouldn’t survive if humans didn’t procreate.
Of course, but that's not the only point of humans having sex. When 1Cor 7:3 speaks of 'rendering the marital due' it isn't talking about procreation, but based on what the older JW man said I get the impression that's the way JW used to look at it.
The remark the speaker made in the video about "the breeding act" seems out of place. I think he used that kind of language to suggest that masturbation is an animalistic practice and should therefore be repugnant to people. That kind of word manipulation is common for Watchtower.

So they seem to be saying that sexual relations are for breeding only now? Not just for married couples?? So Bethel couples are expected to refrain so as not to "breed"? (Scully)
I noticed that remark too. I remember an older brother making a comment at a meeting that sex was for procreation only. I got the impression that at one time the Organization taught that and he was still stuck on it. During my time as a Witness the scripture about 'paying the marital due' (1 Cor 7:3) was used to allow sex for pleasure between married couples.
The remark about "the breeding act" makes me wonder if they haven't flipped back to the old way of looking at it.
Or maybe the speaker just used that remark for effect to make you think masturbation is 'animalistic.' Who knows about Watchtower?
