Is that what you heard? Union of male and female? Sounds like DaVinci Code to me.

SOLOMON'S SEAL: Pentagram or Hexagram?
by cameo-d inthe symbol of the hexagram, the star-like figure formed by two triangles, has many connotations, especially when it is enclosed by a circle; super-natural powers have been attributed to it in many parts of the world since ancient times.. .
in europe, the pentagram is usually known as king solomon's seal, while the hexagram is known as the star of david; and it is often assumed that this was always the case..... .
however, the evidence points to the gradual evolution of the hexagram from a roman cosmological symbol to a religious and magical symbol which was not specifically connected to one religion or people.

Is going from the JWs to another Religion just a "Rebound?"
by braincleaned in*a rebound is the need to fill a void with something we partly had confort in; whether in romance or faith.... .
i posted the following in another thread, and i welcome your feedback - especially if you disagree with my logic.

So, nobody sees the problem with the claim that the God of Jews and Christians "originates" his "existence" from written scriptures. I see King Solomon, nearly hits the answer while taking one of his fan-pleasing roundhouse kicks at religion, but everyone else just sits around scratching.
Big concepts, baby steps. Ok, suppose for a second that the experience of the transcendent precedes the written record of it.
You with me? Ok, now suppose that this experience of the transcendent happens to people who very like us in some ways and very unlike us in other ways.
Pause...
Finally, imagine that much of our own moral code is dependent on the gradual development that begins waaaaay back a long time ago.
Finally: consider the (very remote) possibility that you are not quite as awesome as you think.

Evolution of languages
by oldlightnewshite inhere's an interesting tidbit from the yahoo website, about the evolution of languages, all threading from a common ancestor about 8,000 years ago.
could be a good thing to talk about to help family members realise ttatt...... tower of babel my arse.. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/english-language-began-turkey-180502182.html.

Not really useful: the counter is too easy. Thus: well, sure language has developed over time; the important thing to note is that they all have a common origin. In this case, Turkey, which is not far from the Tower of Babel. So, this is more of a confirmation of what weve been saying rather than a problem.

Does anyone here see any problem with the statement that the exisence of the Christian God originates from written scriptures? As a logical criticism of a position you may not have yourself, of course? Anyone? Little problem? Teeny little cart-before-the-horse thing? Little assuming facts not in evidence sorta error? Look in the dictionary under: conclusion, jumping to. Anyone?

I Believe Catholicism And Its Trappings Are Silly, Strange & Weird!!!
by minimus inmy italian friend loves going to the "feasts" that occur in italy, boston or nyc.
these feasts feature a "saint" with dollar bills pinned around her and they parade the saint in a long procession and chant "viva (whomever)".
they are quite serious about this and are proud to talk about the past generations of observers who appreciated the events.

I see. Curious: why didn't you just say you are insane right at the start? Couldn't we have all saved some time and aggravation? You could say, "I am crazy and respond with complete fury whenever anyone indirectly insults the religion one grandparent practiced." Then everyone would know. Save some time, see?
But, hey, as a Catholic not specifically named (and, by the way, "Catholic" is a proper noun and is, in English, capitalized), I appreciate your apology. Insincere apologies are fascinating to me but usually I dont get to see quite so much absurd self-justification. You've elevated it to the next level, really, and I applaud you. Well done.

Very occasionally, the JWs are the least crazy people in the room.

Do We Exist As a Material Person In a Material World?
by JamesThomas inthis may at first seem a strange question.
but it may be an extremely important question to ask.. .
let's start with the weird fact that only one in ten, or rather 10% of the cells in/on our physical body -- is what we would call "us".

Well, that's just an argument which asserts matter does not exist. Not sure that's a good place to start...

Are the Jews meek?
by slimboyfat ini thought these were pretty surprising comments in the consolation magazine in 1946, just a few months after the full horrors of the holocaust emerged, under the heading "are the jews meek?":.
"there is no evidence in the scriptures that the jews as a people are meek.
on the contrary, jehovah's witnesses only find it stated in the bible that the jews are "stiff-necked and hard-hearted", but when they call at their homes with the message of god's kingdom they witness the same characteristics.

Well, as we know, the National Socialist plan of mass murder was really aimed at the anointed JWs. The Jews just got in the way.

Evidence For Impending Change Re: "Loose Conduct" to "Brazen Conduct"
by DarioKehl inon another thread discussing possible changes to the nwt, the post refered to a 2nd-hand report of a co leaking possible changes to 5 verses where "loose conduct" would be replaced by "brazen conduct.
" although it is merely speculative at this point, i would like to remind those of you who did attend the 2012 dc this summer about some important evidence that supports this theory.
if the program is still available on jw.org, feel free to see this for yourselves.

Does anyody think the Wt thinks they should have more disfellowshippings? That they are short on enforcement mechanisms such that they need to procure a wider set of potential offenses?
Not buyin' it. They already DF whomever they want and it doesn't seem necessary to increase that rate.

"Jehovah, I want you to be my Master in every aspect of my life"
by stillin9 in....i am your servant.
i want you to determine how i should spend my time, what my priorities should be, and how i should use my resources and talents.".
this was in this week's watchtower, first paragraph.

tootired2care, I am referring to the Catholics and Orthodox. We don't put ourselves under the literalistic and blinkered reading of scripture. Look here: what you've got with the scriptures you quote is an unstated assumption: that the will of God involves letting someone else tell you what your vocation ought to be. It is a very old Christian insight that the will of God for each of us is to be the man we were meant to be -- this involves spiritual and personal development, not some sort of insistance that we not educate ourselves or that we not work at that thing we are best at.
The idea that scripture teaches us to eschew our talents -- to not be the artists, athletes, craftsmen, doctors, etc., we were built to be -- is not a Christian way of thinking. I think your mistake is to suppose that the JW thinking we have all been exposed to is at all related to Christianity. The JWs are liars, as you know. But you have to remember that they are liars all the way down. They haven't told you the truth about anything at all, not even about what Christianity is and is not.
