You've found one of the key problems with the JW idea about the human person. According to them, you are your data: your memories, preferences, etc. Whatever container activates these data is, therefore, you. Could be a spirit -- any spirit -- could be a human body -- any body, really. The problem with the inability of this sort of anthropology to give a unique identity to us was pointed out long ago by John Locke (who was responding to a solution to the problems of substance dualism which looks a great deal like the JW solution).

When I was in Bethel working on the bindery lines, there was a 24 year old guy who had become a Witness after he had obtained his College degree. Most of us on the crew started at the same time but he was pulled off the lines and assigned to the legal Dept. and sent to law school because he already had a B. A. It made sense that since that they chose him since he was half way there, education wise but it struck me that those of us who had listened to the Societies advice and come to Bethel, had put Gods kingdom ahead of our own pursuit for a higher education, were not only less valuable to them, but we had just been penalized or discriminatedi against in a way for listening to their own admonition.
Ha. My experience on the bindery lines was similar -- though the guy that got plucked had a background in engineering. Don't think he had a degree, but some course work toward it. So, two years out, he was going to have his BA while we would have two years' experience on a bindery line. Hmm.
Actually, I think this sort of thing causes a lot of the envy and resentment I saw in the JWs. Folks who did what they were told to do and put the right things first felt that there should be more sharing. Hard to fault the feeling, actually.

Bible School for Single Brothers
by Eustace ini heard through the grapevine that those who graduated the bible school for single brothers around the end of february have already gotten their assignments.. i thought they were usually given assignments only after about a year?.
also while in the past not every graduate of the bible school for single brothers was given an assignment, in this class all were given one.. this smells like a bait and switch to me.. what's going on?.

Yeah, the last thing you want to do is let these guys cool their heels at home for a year. If they get to walk around for a while with that "Super Premium" label, some sister is gonna snatch them up.

Actually, to the OP, I don't think that's a logical fallacy. It's a pretty straightforward argument:
-- You should stay away from people who are mentally diseased
-- apostates are mentally diseased
-- you should stay away from apostates
Nothing fallacious about it. Wrong, maybe, but each point follows. Now, an ad hominem would be something like:
-- apostates say JWs are wrong
-- apostates are mentally diseases
-- therefore, apostates are wrong
I think this would count, since even a mentally diseased person might make a good argument. But the claim that you should stay away from mentally diseased persons of which apostates are examples is not a fallacious argument.

Unemployment is down, but why did America set a record 47.8 million on food stamps?
by moshe inin the usa a new record was set on food stamp enrollments, which seems ironic.
you would think as unemployment drops , food stamp usage would be dropping, too.
maybe those government unemployment numbers are fake numbers.

Sulla
I'm sure there is a certain level of fraud. But focusing on the unemployment rate is probably misleading. If you look at the employment to population ratio, say here:
http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/EMRATIO/
You can get a better idea about the magnitude of the problem. So many people have dropped out of the employment market, that the unemployment rate -- which counts only those people actively looking for work -- is not giving us a picture of where we are. Long story short: we haven't seen rates this low in 30 years. And there isn't much sign of a recovery. This really is the new normal.

Baptism reversal
by DanmeraDinglebum inhas anyone ever heard of someone getting their baptism reversed?
ever?.
-
Sulla
Technically, an annulment isn't a reversal, it's a claim that it never really happened. Like a marriage when one person is secretly married already, it's a thing that can't happen. So, all that stuff with the vows and rings and rice doesn't mean anything in that case, because nothing could happen. So nothing did happen.
But you are unlikely to wiggle out of your JW baptism easily. Actually, at all. That wrath is gonna come down.

He Is Risen, the axial component of christianity
by designs insunday hundreds of millions and possibly up to two billion people will join in some service in observance of the resurrection of jesus.
it is the central issue which takes the teachings of jesus from the philosophy of doing good to others to the ultimate truth which it claims.

lol I was giving it my best shot. Over a period of a couple of years, post JW, I met with the pastors of the local Baptist Church, who really was a nice guyand well educated, the pastor of the Assembly Of God, who was scary as hell, and the Presbyterians. Plus my time in Synagogue.
Well, you certainly engaged a wide spectrum of viewpoints. Assembly of God? Really? I went to our local Evangelical Bible church around five times. I actually thought the people there were too nice: didn't trust 'em. To explain what I mean, you'd have to understand that part of Atlanta: these were people who were used to drawing with two outs and hitting it on the river. That kind of person always wants to invite you over for a cook out.
EP: Why? Have their preachers finally out-paced the world champs, Catholics, at boinking little kids and lying about it?Ep, you really are a nasty piece of shit, aren't you?

I'll leave you to your besties on this one, designs. Though I will say, hanging out a Calvary chapel for any period of time should turn most people atheist.
