  if you had so much money that you didn't have to work, how would you spend your time?

  I'd do the following:

  - put money in trust for my children
  - make sure my mom is taken care of
  - buy a home for my cousin who is being abused by her husband - anonymously make life better for a few 'working poor' families (include second hand vehicles, clothes, bills paid, medical expenses and education for the parent)
  - build or purchase a large home with land for homeless kids with resourses
  - buy a hobby farm for myself with room for me and my pets to roam
  - buy a second hand vehicle for each of my girls and I
  - return to school for education or psychology degrees to help kids
  - travel to apostfests to meet all my family here
  - open a shelter for alcoholics and drug addicts to have a safe place, be fed, sleep, clean and be warm
  - donate to all the food banks in the area so that they are overwelmed instead of understocked on a regular basis
  - organize transportation for volunteers to visit the elderly
  - help Simon and Ang with this site
  - help shunned father
  - help whoever I could with dental and medical bills
  - i'd work in my chosen field and continue to anonymously help those that the system is trying to keep down (welfare/social assistance/single parents)

  Those are some of the things I would do.

  remember when elders took pride in dfing someone - like they got a notch on their judgmental belt of righteousness?.

  remember when parents would brag about kicking their kids out if they did want to serve jah or if the kid got dfd and the father didnt want to lose his position in the k-hall and threw the kid out?.

  remember when catastrophes would happen to other people/nations and jws would laugh about it and consider it just part of the last days?.

  Musky - I'm sorry for offending you. It certainly was not my intention. And no one on this thread is calling ALL JWs mean. I also try to see each person for what they are. The problem with JWs is the doctrines that enable elders and MS to do very abusive things to people. One of the elders that ultimately hurt me the most, was a very nice man and wanted to help people. He gave into the pressure of the others who were most interested in power. I have also been in many congregations due to my first husband being in the military and in each, I saw these things occur. Certainly not all of them occured, but the abuse of power and the abusive treatment of people in one way or another.

  Yes, you were in a long time. What I meant by oblivious was that some people honestly prefer to just see the good, and that's fine. Just because you didn't see these things going on doesn't mean they weren't happening. Those are two possiblities.

  I'm glad for you that you didn't have to endure much of the above. And again, I apologize for offending you.

  Minimus and Musky - Perhaps you could read the title of the thread again. The word 'mean' has apostrophes around it. Had Larry meant that ALL JWs were mean, there would be no apostrophes.

  Being brainwashed does not sidestep the result of such actions - it's mean.

  Musky - If you don't remember them putting the Catholic church down in spades - then you weren't listening very well. Or maybe you were just oblivious to all the crap that was going on around you at the hall and in the homes. (that is not an insult btw)

  Remember how the elders would tell you they wanted to help you when in fact they wanted evidence so as to Df you?

  Remember how the depressed ones were called spiritually weak and assigned 'mature, older sisters or brothers' to study with them?

  Remember how the elders would assign a brother or sister to study with you but it was only to get close to you to get the goods and thoughts from you?

  Remember how the elders and MS followed people around like it was of national security so as to keep the congregation clean?

  Remember how only the 'in' crowd received hospital visits and the rest weren't worth their bother?

  Remember how special pioneer's stories were always so exciting and fruitful when in fact they had been told to spice up their experience because it was actually boring?

  nilfun - you are NOT full of shit! That being said, it takes a long time to get out of that programming. I have been out for 10 years now, and last christmas was the first one I ever enjoyed without guilt.

  My father always made every single holiday pure hell for mom and I, so I never learned to love holidays. It was one of the reasons I liked the dubs way back when.

  You are in a space now where you are trying to find out just exactly where you personally stand regarding worldly issues - case in point - the abuse of the Indians by colonists.

  There are people who refuse to eat red meat, or any meat at all or wear fur or who protest the WTO. Since being in the JWs kept us from caring about such things, we were sheltered and didn't have to think or form a personal opinion on such things.

  Give yourself a break honey. It's a huge world when you consider all the issues and realities. Write it out on paper. I know that abuse by the colonists was not the reason the JWs do not celebrate Thanksgiving. So, you may be forming your own opinion, and if so, then honor that.

  Perhaps, when Thanksgiving arrives, you could celebrate in a way that shows respect to the Indians. Use it as a time to be thankful you are no longer a dub. Locate some Indians and ask if you could talk to them about this. I'm sure they would be more than pleased to do so.

  In the end, there is nothing wrong with being thankful. Use the day to be thankful you are not a dub, and honor your other feelings by reaching out to the Indians. It sounds like your conscience is speaking here and not the dubs.

  I hope this has made some sense. Nilfun - never say you are full of shit. Don't put yourself down. Everyone has a right to voice their quandaries.

  The peace and quiet around here has been blissful. If someone misses any who left, I'm sure there is a way to get a hold of them.

  Minimus hon, this topic is a slippery slope. I hope no one uses it as a soap box to start flaming or attacking people.

  I don't miss the fighting. It was too much, unnecessary, and depressing. It isn't a matter of the board before or now. It isn't a matter of the personalities involved.

  Simon did not set this forum up to be the octagon where it's 'anything goes'. I'm sorry that Simon had to go through what he did, and am glad he's taken steps to lessen the stress on himself and the many people who call this place home.

  Here's hoping this thread remains peaceful.

  Serena thanks "Jehovah" after US Open...

  serena williams, after winning the us open women's tennis championship tonight, thanked "jehovah" for blessing her family.

  in the background were numerous us flags, and of course, prior to the match, the williams sisters were there and standing while various patriotic songs were played (oh, that's right....they were already standing since they had to walk out onto the court....guess that's okay).

  while watching all that i could not help but think of all the jw youths who have been told that they could not particicpate in organized sports at school or otherwise.

  Hi again Princess - Then he is of the tiny percent that choose or like to experiment. A homosexual is not interested sexually in the opposite gender - period. I also state again that I think that bi-sexual people are the reason alot of people think that homosexuals can 'choose'. It just isn't so.

  I've had moments when I've said " I hate so and so!" but really, it's what they are doing or not doing that I actually hate, not the person.

  I'm not a hateful person. Hate is a poisonous and destructive form of anger. I don't have the energy or will to hold onto or breed that state of mind.

  Unfortuneately, some people are unwilling to deal with their anger which lets hate grow in all its incidious ways, and they end up abusing others - innocent bystanders who end up being scapegoats.

  After all my father has done to me and my mother - I don't hate him. I get really angry about the fall out of what he's done and not done, but I deal with it by punching the shit out of a heavy bag, walking, writing poetry and sketching my emotions. I also cry and have the odd nervous breakdown. Most importantly, I've channeled the energy into changing the viscious cycle to make life better for my own children, and for myself, as well as helping others due to the fact that I understand the emotions involved.

  I remember growing up and listening about my brother's accident. In my eyes - it was no accident because the driver of the streetcleaner that dragged and ran him over in front of me, was hungover. I was hateful at the driver, who had a heart attack when someone told him he was dragging a child. Mom and I were there watching while Craig (5yrs old, and I was 3) laid in a heap and the medics helping the driver. I swore that I would find that man when I was old enough and kill him. I was serious. It wasn't until I was about 14 that I realized that this man was so upset he had a heart attack, and lived, with the memory of what he had done. There is no greater punishment. It no doubt ruined his life, as he was a man who cared. I now feel great pity for him and his family. If he is still alive, he would be in his 80s or 90s. I wish I could've searched him out earlier - but not to kill him - to tell him I forgive him, and hug him.
