I am sorry but after 40 years in this org ... they ONLY reason they are inviting you is to try to bring you back into the organization. They are not really being a "friend" in the true sense of the word ... they are friends with alterior motives ... I may be wrong but in fact they are devout JWs ... they will actually "count" the time they spend with you ...

Today's Watchtower Lesson Really Bothered Me...
by dontplaceliterature ini was a hair away from telling my wife i never wanted to go to the kingdom hall again after today's watchtower.
the conductor mentioned something along the lines of..."if you think having to shun your disfellowshipped children is bad...you should read up on the israelites.
when one of their children was disobedient to the law, they had to take the before the judges so that they could be stoned to death...and guess who's job it was throw the first stone?".

Quote
"When baptized, you are essentially marrying Jehovah, his organization, it's good and not so good qualities." I can only say WOW!!!!! Sorry but this is not what the Spirit teaches in the bible ... but I understand your reasoning but I wish you would read the bible by yourself and ask God to teach you ...
Psalms 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
Psalm 19
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous. An organization that claims to be God-made and the only means of "salvation", should be an exact representation of God with only perfect qualities, like Jesus who is the WAY and the TRUTH and the only PERSON/ORGANIZATION God has appointed for our salvation.

@ Quarterback ... excellent point!
One of the apostles made the question," don't you know we are going to judge angels? " ... what angels is he talking about? The fallen angels perhaps???

Mind Your Own Business WT Pharisees!
by 00DAD ini just started reading eric hoffer's seminal work, "the true believer: thoughts on the nature of mass movements".
in it he made this very interesting comment: .
"a man is likely to mind his own business when it is worth minding.

I used to have a part time job as a Caregiver at a Retirement center for well to do people --- a bunch of older, some hard headed, seniors. This reminds me of the GB ... at least the seniors I have worked with are very accomplished individuals, but I think about the GB year after year after year in those Watchtower towers ... their brains must be like swiss cheese ...

Good job Timothy! I think you will enjoy reading the OT without the WTC goggles too I have a book by Philip Yancey, "The Bible Jesus Read" that you may want to read, it is about the Old Testament, which is the Bible Jesus read, used and loved.

Learning to pray again
by Cinciguy74 inso, one of the things that is catching me off guard is that i have forgotten how to pray.. as a jw we were all told to pray, but when we really look at it, the prayers are just as structured and mind numbing as those of the catholic church reciting the rosary.
what caught my attention was stephen at act 7:59 where he calls on jesus (not jehovah) to receive him.
he prayed to jesus.. yet, as a jw, the prayers you always here begin like this: "jehovah god, our loving heavenly father..." and end in "in jesus name, amen".

I relate to you ... I realized how structured my prayers as a JW were, like a robot, always in a hurry and just something to check off the list of the TO DO things, or to be seen and perceived as "spiritual" . After 40 years of praying to "Jehovah" I found myself mute, literally, I couldn't even formulate the same words, my mouth, my lips felt lazy, it felt like vomit, so unnatural. BUT then I started to pray like Jesus taught - to the Heavenly Father, I also learned to pray from the Scriptures and to really pray/talk to God about anything related to my life, emotions, needs. I also learned to praise God and truly from the bottom of heart say thanks, I learned to say I love you God. I learned to feel part of God's family, I am his daughter and He is my Heavenly Father. I learned that my suffering and struggle was because I have not realized and believe that I am God's creation, I am his daughter in Christ, I have an inheritance from Him, HE IS MY FATHER above all, then because I choose to worship him HE IS ALSO MY GOD - AN NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME NOW.
I have also noticed the Apostles faith and relationship with Jesus, from then I learned to talk to Jesus, to also ask him for things, most of the mornings I say "Good morning Heavens!!!" meaning everybody up there. I am not afraid of thinking about God, Jesus, all the Angels, and feel part of the family with the diference that I am still here on earth. I ask God to appoint angels over me and my children to keep us safe. So my prayer life brings me real happiness, hope and the power to do things.

Moulding our JW Children
by angel.face inevery year, at the beginning of the school year i prepare a letter for my daughter's teachers saying 'we are jws don't celebrate this....no anthem....here are some suggestions..blah blah".
and here's our 'jws and education' brochure from 1969, a bit outdated but you know, it's spiritual food at the proper time.
besides, its an easy placement.

Chills went throughout my body --- poor kid!
why doesn't your husband take the lead as the "JW head" and take care of that letter.

@ N.drew "When I did, I left the pastor a song book, because I believed "Jehovah" was a mystery to most people. Come to find out later, my mom's Bible was an old one which had God's Name spelled out, not in one or two places, but everywhere it was"
Don't they make you believe that they are the ONLY ONES using God's name? What a deceptive practice!
