Why on earth would WT use a FEMALE lawyer to defend it in Australia case?
by hamsterbait inhow many of us here find the use of a female to conduct the defence unusual?.
the wt religion is notoriously misogynistic.
anybody with a penis is preferable to do a non menial job.. why the change here?.

Halloween as a Jehovah's Witness Kid
by Badfish inwhat was your experience like as a kid on halloween growing up in a jw family?.
i was raised in a jw family but never got baptized.. my father used to make me and my sister put old awakes and watchtower's in the trick or treaters' bags.
we would say: "i don't celebrate halloween but here's a treat for you!

We were talking about Halloween and my agnostic British coworker for some reason mentioned that it was pagan blah blah blah and how Xmas and lots of other stuff came from pagan stuff ... it got to the point that we realized how FIRE, WATER, FOOD, certain clothing was used in religious/pagan practices first too, offered to "gods" and so on ... we were not talking about religion but I was about to have a panic attack b/c I thought about my JW upbringing and how every holiday is pagan and bad bad bad ... then I thought the stupidity of picking and choose what customs are bad and which ones are good according to "religious" people ...
Anyway, the church I go to had a Trunk or Treat. I decorated my car trunk and it was fun ... kids from the church dressed up in costumes and entertained thousands of people that came by the RiverFest where they enjoyed music, food and sodas, inflatable games. I bet we"fish" more people this way and give a message of love to our community heard by thousands.

When I understood "GRACE" I kneeled down and cried and thanked God for giving me such a great GIFT ...
I used to read in the bible how people rejoiced, shouted, singed, praised God for his love, mercy, grace, now I understand that feeling because whenever I realize the gift of GRACE I feel like jumping and yelling thanks GOD!

Very appropriate to read this topic this morning ...
I went into my attic yesterday to look for my Thanksgiving decorations and came across a box with books, I stopped here and found my unread copy of " The art of war" of Sun Tzu ... which according to the preface: "... compiled well over two thousand years ago by a mysterious Chinese warrior-philosopher, is still perhaps the most prestigious and influential book of strategyin the world today ..." I started reading it yesterday and continued today and I couldn't help of finding similarities with the Watchtower Corporation and the emphasis they put on the "organization" and to control people ... on the other hand when I read the bible I don't find similarities with "the WT organization" as I read the context or the whole book at a time I say this because I was reading the Book of Isaiah this weekend also, book out of which Rutherford got the name of Jehovah's Witnesses, that book is all about Israel and Jesus ... not any USA "organization" craftedly incorporated to profit from people.

Dating an exboyfriend after my divorce ... PLEASE ALL OUT THERE ... learn from me and stay away from old flames ... LOL!
You know I wish I could change all my JW life, but unfortunately it was out of my control I was very little (2-3) when my mom encountered that cult ... I lived years under that spell
But it was my choice to date my ex-boyfriend ... I didn't know better ... thou part of me was going back to something I couldn't have freely as a JW ... he wasn't a JW and I was his girlfriend behind my parent's back for like 3 months (I was 15, he 17)... I didn't see him for 20 years until I met someone that knew him ... mind that then we were in El Salvador, and now we both were in USA ... it is a small world ...

You are not the only who sees the hypocresy in that. My own mother applied for early social security because you know the end was around the corner 3 years ago. Since she doesn't have medical insurance nor money to pay for health care, she goes to a catholic charities clinics here in Houston, same my JW sister in Austin, TX and lots of others JWs. Any immigration issues for JWs all over the USA, call Catholic Charities they provide free consultations and representation. Moreover it was the Association of Baptist Churches (ABC program) that got amnesty for many long ago.

The Honeymoon Stage...well kind of
by mrsjones5 ini'm keeping my distance from my parents but i keep running into my mother around town.
yesterday it was at walmart, a couple of weeks ago it was at the mall.
both times my husband was not acknowledged (basically shunned), hubby says its a weird feeling but he's ok with not having to talk to my mother.. i call my mother every couple of weeks or so and the last time i spoke to her (about two days before walmart) she said that she wished we could go shopping or go to lunch together.

MrsJones5,
You are describing my mother ... I have learned to remove myself from any "situation" that bring chaos in to my life ... it is not fair to myself nor my children. I hope you have been able to tell your mom how you feel about it. I did this with my mother over the phone once, afterwards I reinforced the fact that my door was always open for her ... meaning if you ever need me I am here ... you know she is a JW too and won't even consider coming to my house or call.

Is guilt a valuable tool to you ?
by caliber inguilt is tied into our belief system of right and wrong... i see so often that people upon leaving the wt talk about the negatives.
of instilled fear and guilt.
does not proper guilt from internal source play a postive role ?
-
Bella15
There are consequences to every decision and action ...
When you use "guilt" to make people do your will ... this is not positive at all, it is bad, manipulative, vindictive, unloving, ... if you have to recur to "guilt," that makes you a very arrogant, proud, low person, you are making people feel "shame" for no reason but your own personal gratification, for you to feel superior, have the last word ... for this we have to give account to God. You will not be ending "the conflict," you will be salivating with the personal gratification of making the other person feel so bad so you can be in the right (although you are in the wrong).
I am sorry but the use of guilt, IS NOT a commonly accepted standard of society ... at least not in the world I live and move now ... guilt is not a valuable "tool" but a despicable fruit of the spirit of Satan and is of no value to me anymore.
The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. Just the thought of using "guilt" methodically, premeditatedly gives me chills. It is like first degree murder. If I do it without thinking, like lying sometimes, I confess immediately to the Father and try to mend my ways with the person I hurt even acknowledging that I was trying to make him feel bad so I can feel better.

Dreams can bring back pain.....
by NoRegrets inanyone else have dreams about their jw relatives they've had to leave behind.
it's always hard because the dreams are always vivid and tense with fighting/arguing.
anyone else have this a lot?
-
Bella15
Those dreams are awful, they drained you emotionally ...
I used to have recurrent dreams in which I replayed all the unmet emotional needs, feelings of abandoment, resentment towards my mom, and many other awful feelings. In my dreams my mom wouldn't give in a bit, same lack of compassion, mercy, just coldness and the look in her face that she didn't care, that she was so superior than me, like she was in a different dimension and didn't hear my crying, pleadings, begging, I would fight with her but she didn't even react to that ... I don't wish these type of dreams to anybody because the next day one feels also guilty because you have fought your mom.
