Absolutely not. You have to be crazy to want that much responsibility. ;)

Would You Run For President/Prime Minister/Etc. If You Could???
by minimus inand not just everyone "could" run for office.
you need money, exposure, the media, influence, etc.
but if you could, if it was even a longshot possibility, would you ever consider running for office?

Would Your "Spirit-Directed Conscience"Have Made You Walk Out Of A Movie?
by Englishman inthis was a fairly frequent occurence amongst the brothers and sisters in my young dubby days.
i was heaved out of the cinema on more than one occasion, generally by my mother who reckoned some things were just too much for my innocent young eyes and ears.
i only half saw:.

I got "in trouble" for going to see Titanic when it came out, because of the nude scene. I wonder if it's OK for JWs to go to an art gallery?
I remember that my parents took us to see Star Trek II when it came out in the cinema. I was too young to remember much. Then the Society specifically named it as a film that was too violent, so we were not allowed to see it again. One "rebellious" day, I decided to watch it when it was on TV. I was bored. *shakes head*
I know we walked out of a film when I was a kid, but I don't remember the name of it. It was some nature type film, Grizzly Adams or something like that. Dunno why we left; I think it might have been for language. -

Funniest Thing You Ever Saw At The Memorial?
by Why Georgia in.
i'm wondering what the funniest thing you ever saw at the memorial was?.
for me it was when one of the mentally ill ladies in the congregation came to the kh with the back of her dress cut out because she said she was telling the demons to kiss her butt.. she walked right up to the front row, past everyone and sat down.. there were brothers running to block everyones view but it was quite clear that she was not even wearing undies.. this particular sister was always talking about the demons.

Us children were always taught that you had to sit still until the prayer was finished. So my little 2 year old brother was really behaving himself. We were sitting in the front row. Naturally, during the memorial, they pray over the emblems.
So the first prayer is over (my father said that prayer), and my brother jumps up, runs down the aisle behind him saying, "Dad! Can I have a mint?!" Bless 'im, he thought he had sat still long enough, and since there was a prayer, it MUST be finished. :) -

I've had it....
by Country_Woman inyesterday evening my dog got an epileptic attack - peeing all over the tapestry and almost glueing at the floor with the foam at his mouth (it is very hard to remove).
after the attack he wanted to "walk" pacing up the room (and backyard) for a long time.. .
this night he was whining a lot - wanting outside... (which i allowed for at least 5 times - thus having not much sleep myself).

Sorry I was a bit late with this. It is quite common for a dog to lose control of their bowels when they have a seizure. I don't know how you reacted when it happened, but if he has another seizure and loses control, whatever you do, don't yell or make him feel bad about it. He can't control it, and is already scared because he doesn't understand what's happening to him.
The Phenobarbital should control his seizures. My first dog had seizures like that, and she never had one again once she got on the Phenobarbital.
Why are your other dogs attacking him? That sort of behaviour will just frighten him even more. :( -

Have you ever been marked?
by Dustin inwhen i first met my wife, she was not a jw.
i was baptized at the age of 12. to make a long story short, some of the other youths in the congregation followed my lead and took non jw boyfriends and girlfriends.
well the brothers decided to point me out specifically as i was the only one who cared.

When I was a kid, the congregation picnics were great fun. Then the Society started telling us that too many people together having fun was asking for trouble. So our congregation all but stopped having them. My sister and I were really disappointed, coz we enjoyed them.

My Deleted Elder Friend Stopped By.......
by minimus inwith his wife to say that it's been 3 months since my daughter's wedding and in october he got deleted for going to it even though the presiding overseer told him it was a "conscience matter.
period.
".....the circuit overseer saw it differently and removed my friend as an elder amd my mom as a regular pioneer because of a letter sent only to circuit overseers in 1999!!!!

So let me get this straight. He asked his fellow elders, and they said, "conscience matter." They didn't know any more than he did. Then almighty CO comes along with his secret letter, tells them they were wrong, and punishes the person who followed the advice he was given by the elders? How stupid.

What's The Best Way To Jolt A Witness' Thinking???
by minimus in.
anything that you think effectively gets a jw to re-think their position on things or their beliefs, in general?
?

My husband helped when I was considering trying to get reinstated. (This was before I found this board and learned all the rubbish they've been spewing.) He just asked a simple question that I had no answer for. A "what if" scenario, something that I absolutely could not disprove using the Bible. It got me to thinking. Then my df'd aunt found me online, and told me about the UN thing. Snowball effect from there.

End of the World

i'm new here, i married a jw and i have just started attending the meetings, and it confuses me alot.. but back to my question, my grandmother once told me that jw's in the 50's proclaimed the end of the world and sold all their personal belongings and went up on a mountian and waited for god, has anyone else heard of this?

The Witnesses having been making predictions about Armageddon for their entire history. None have yet come true.
My parents believed that Armageddon was coming, so they kept me out of school. I ended up starting a year later. I graduated 12 years ago.
Please, seriously consider whether or not it is a good idea to join the JWs. After all, the Bible itself says that if anyone makes predictions that don't come true, they are a false prophet and you should not listen to them.
