The funny thing is, JWs claim that they don't use fear tactics, like eternal torture in hell, but they do. Armageddon.

growing up scared of Armageddon
by bittersweet ini was just curious if any of you growing up in the truth were overly scared of armageddon?.
when my mom came into the org.
in the 70's,the only so called kids book was the paradise lost book.the pictures in that book scared the pants off me!at night when i was lying in bed,if i would hear a loud plane go over head,or there was a thunder storm,i was sure it was the start of armageddon and i would be sooooo scared.i was wondering if i was the only one overly scared,or if their were others.. also, was anyone out there extremely frightened of the demons?i would hear all these crazy experiences of people having problems with demons, and i was sooo frightened they would come bother me.maybe i was just a big old scaredycat, but if any one else has any experiences, please post them!

JW funeral and I am DF'd
by Vivamus ini have not been a very active poster lately [have you missed me?].
there has been plenty of drama in my life the last few weeks, and my time has been absorbed by it.
my grandma is seriously ill, and has but a few more months to live.

What org rules were stupid to you?
by MARTINLEYSHON inwhen i was in the truth i thought that the most ludicrous and petty ruling they ever introduced and still practiced is that congregation book study conductors were and are responsible for collecting every group members report.
surely every member ought to be responsible for his/her own actions.
at the beginning of the following month and certainly before the 5th i would always receive the stupid telephone call from the secretary are you aware that 3 publishers havent reported?

Hey wolfgirl
The reason for that was that a coloured shirt gave the appearance of being dirty, whereas a white shirt represented heavenly cleaness LOL
Really? I was told that it was because coloured shirts were "worldly," thereby the people wearing them were "less spiritual." *rolls eyes*
Looking back, I think most of their rules are stupid.

But there are so many to choose from!
One that annoyed me was 'brothers shouldn't wear coloured dress shirts, especially when giving talks.' I was never given a good reason for that.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time. :(
Sit with the rest of the family. That's where you belong; you are family. Screw the elders. They won't make a scene; they haven't got the balls.

does growing up a JW, and then seeing the light, tend to make you wonder if there is a God?
For me, yes. I suppose I could be called an agnostic now.

WHAT'S THE WORST SCANDAL YOU KNOW OF?
by minimus insome here have been privy to certain scandals such as pedophilia in your congregation.
we have never had such a scandal in our area that became well-known.
one of the worst scandals i've heard was that of how 2 elders terrorized an entire congregation.anybody that disagreed with them, was considered disloyal.

Well, other than my sexual abuse by my father, a good friend of mine was beaten by her husband. The elders knew it. Talked to him, but never did anything else. He still hits her.

ADMIT IT, DIDN'T YOU FEEL SPECIAL being a JW?
by minimus inremember, you had the truth!
everybody else didn't even have a clue!
the worldly people never understood our spiritual paradise.

Sometimes I felt embarrassed and wished I could just be like everybody else. Other times, I felt really special. And it sickens me that I was so looking forward to Armageddon...couldn't wait till "the destruction of the ungodly people." Uck.
