Try Other Religions
by Sofia Lose insometimes i get a strong curiosity to start dabbling into other religions, other faiths, you know?
really different ones such as islam, judaism, hinduism, etc.. has anyone here looked into something else?
has your spirituality been satisfied by any other than christianity?.

I dont know why that is Sofia but I am going to speculate that it is somewhat anthropological in origin.
That religion (Islam) had been around a long time and is a survivor so it has something that makes it so.
I would venture to guess that any religion that survives grows and makes people appear to thrive is meeting a need of some type.
While Islam is not progressive of women, it is protective of them (according to its own standard) and is also set up to give very clear guides as to the family structure being important. They have in place an arrangement for financially helping their poor and other social structures that are "built in". Their are holidays with meaning, foods with meaning etc.
When you separate out being Arabic (which is different) or radical like ISSIs (Americans have a hard time with that one sometimes) and look at the religion versus the nationality, its clear that not all the ideas are bad. Nor even most of them.
Like Judaism, it is a culture, a religion, an identity. There is comfort and meaning in that.
Contrast that with the JWs - a new religion...they are frantically trying to instill a "culture" using the tool of uniformity. They are trying to bring in some kind of pride and fun (using technology here recently- a distinctly young American concept) and of course they are having extremely limited success. This is true not just when you compare them to stable religions rich in tradition like Islam but even when you compare them to religions of their own ilk like 7th Day Adventists or Mormons.

God exists? God doesn't? God is a different concept? Convince me!
by punkofnice ini am in a spiritual void at the moment after a year out of the borg and 50 years in.. i'd like to hear 'brief' evidence for the existance or non existance of god/s without an argument between members here.. i'd like to get fresh view points as mine is now so critical it's telling me to be an agnostic or atheist.
why?
i am in want of evidence, not just words from a copy/paste troll & no links.. i just want to open up to new possibilities but with evidence to support it not just 'faith'..

What a great thread Punkofnice,
Back when you started this I was just finishing registering a fake name here and certain that either God would strike me dead OR the elders were going to come knocking immediately.
The voices in my head of JW-ology were still echoing so loudly that I couldnt even have seen a thread like this one. It simply wouldnt have registered..
I started by reading threads about corruption and that lead to doctrinal "corruption" which lead to reading the Bible with my own eyes (what a brand new idea) ((sarcasm)) which lead to a lot of "hold up! wait a minute!" thinking on my part.
Only now do I feel mentally and emotionally (so I guess that would sum up spiritually also) ready to begin to examine this topic in a calm rational way without a lump in my throat.
I thought it was colossal bad timing on my part to arrive at this stage of being a novitiate only to find that there are NO threads for people like me on this site.
If anyone dares to start one the "preachers" and the "glory hounds" swoop in immediately to state their opinion as fact. That is fine - its freedom of speech in action.
For me, the problem then becomes I close the thread and learn nothing. I see the names (avatars) commenting on the thread - and dont click on the thread and thereby miss a lot of what Im sure is good thoughts by other posters.
I said all that to say it is incredibly nice to find this thread and get to rid such a calm respectful discussion without one irritating poster!
I just skimmed this thread looking to see if it is one I can sink in to and read without prejudice and it is. So thanks!

Advice Needed - JW Grandparents
by What Now? inmy family has been out (inactive no meeting attendance or field service) for just over two years..
weve made many changes in our lives, including with our personal appearances (tattoos, piercings etc) that are a pretty obvious sign that we arent going back any time soon.
our families went through a period of time about a year ago when they made a lot of threats that if we left the truth, they wouldnt even be able to share a meal with us, they would stay loyal to jehovah etc.

For some reason I pictured your kids as older as in the grade school age.
It is very difficult when they are that young.
Is there anyone in the family who does the indoctrination "less"?
Could they spend a little time with that person and less time with the ones who do it "more" until they get a little bigger?

Isnt it approximately 2/3 of all born in JW kids leave the religion?
And they are getting it ALL thrown at them 24 hours a day! I wouldnt worry that much of what is shared by your family will stick in any permanent way.
In view of that, I would go with DOCs wise take on things.

Maybe the person will get reprimanded from the same K.H. platform where they danced to Pharrell Williams song.
A touch of irony?
