Governing Body TV
by punkofnice inso, the holy, holy, holy governing body(tm) are on tv and very much to be worshipped (like rock stars).. do you think there will come a time when the jws won't have public talks (as an example), and rely totally on the tele evengelism from the gb?
i say this because a public speaker used to be offered travelling expenses when visiting a different kingdom hell.
either the popes will stop this, it already has been stopped.

As far as I know visiting speakers arent compensated with actual money but there is almost always an arrangement to offer hospitality.
This gets to be quite the circus at times!
Some friends just dont want to or are busy. So they end up "paying" for a meal and sending their stand in to do the deed. So now instead of just paying for the speaker and his family, they pay for the stand in also.
All just because they want/need to not take their turn.
Others handle it as a Service group which means they gather at the house of one in the group and all bring a dish. This is exhausting and a lot of work for the sister lucky enough to be the one whose home its in and they gripe endlessly about it but do it because they feel its "for Jehovah".
Either way it amounts to a sizable sum of money and a total waste of 2 or 3 hours of your time with someone you may or may not have wanted to meet (the speaker).
Its the business lunch from hell and you cant write it off on your expense account.

How many JW Families do you know of who hate each other and shun each other? "Religion of Hatred" 1.a
by The1975Blues inwhen you were attending the kingdom halls did you see feuds and hate filled wars against members working on the new personality?
how strong were the elders in keeping their halls filled with love not hatred, jesus said everyone would be filled with love, there was no room for hatred in jesus christ's view of how christians ought to act!
when you see children shunning parents, parents shunning children, aunts, uncles, grandma and grandpas displaying qualities jesus said were "instant tickets to hell" why do the jws keep attending the meetings if their filled with hate?

Very strange how it all shakes out.
My siblings are all super spiritual. One at Patterson. Other a missionary, others serving in special assignments.
Then one who is openly gay and DFd
and me...
I was unofficially shunned for not completely cutting off the gay sibling. Now that I am inactive by their terminology, they are split between being in a panic over what to "do" with me and upping the shunning and disapproval level.
At no point has there been any love or just a simple honest conversation.
A lot of over achievers but not really achieving much when you look at it are we?

On the Relevancy of The Institutionalization of Sin
by Perry inchild murder, sodomy & corrupting the human genome are not new sins, they are old ones.
what is new is their institutionalization.
but even that isn't totally new.

steve215 minutes agoI like Perry's threads - as said earlier, he never disappoints and it helps posters clarify their views on topics that often evoke more heat than light. Best of all, Perry's a little on the less-strident side than some who share his literalist views. He also comes across as a decent man, which I think is reflected in posters' responses. There are vigorous exchanges of view but not the personal hits seen in some threads. The humor's weird but great too.
All good to know steve, thank you.
Ok then....maybe I will go back to page one and take a look!

oppostate has it right.
I have to think that this is making the 30 and 40 something JWs SO happy. They have so little to be proud of in the religion and this gives them official sanction to play with gadgets and use technology.
I think that it wont dawn on them how late to the party the Org is.
Rather I imagine if feels like "new territory" for a tired religion.

Try Other Religions
by Sofia Lose insometimes i get a strong curiosity to start dabbling into other religions, other faiths, you know?
really different ones such as islam, judaism, hinduism, etc.. has anyone here looked into something else?
has your spirituality been satisfied by any other than christianity?.

I dont know why that is Sofia but I am going to speculate that it is somewhat anthropological in origin.
That religion (Islam) had been around a long time and is a survivor so it has something that makes it so.
I would venture to guess that any religion that survives grows and makes people appear to thrive is meeting a need of some type.
While Islam is not progressive of women, it is protective of them (according to its own standard) and is also set up to give very clear guides as to the family structure being important. They have in place an arrangement for financially helping their poor and other social structures that are "built in". Their are holidays with meaning, foods with meaning etc.
When you separate out being Arabic (which is different) or radical like ISSIs (Americans have a hard time with that one sometimes) and look at the religion versus the nationality, its clear that not all the ideas are bad. Nor even most of them.
Like Judaism, it is a culture, a religion, an identity. There is comfort and meaning in that.
Contrast that with the JWs - a new religion...they are frantically trying to instill a "culture" using the tool of uniformity. They are trying to bring in some kind of pride and fun (using technology here recently- a distinctly young American concept) and of course they are having extremely limited success. This is true not just when you compare them to stable religions rich in tradition like Islam but even when you compare them to religions of their own ilk like 7th Day Adventists or Mormons.
