The current GB appoints any new members. They're the very definition of self-appointed

Who Picks The Governing Body?
by millie210 inhey everyone,.
just a simple straight forward question on exactly what the process is.
if a gb member died tomorrow, do the remaining ones choose who gets to be next?.

So in that case...how do more liberal ones ever get appointed? Or more deep thinkers (I realize I am opening myself up for great puns here)is i a case of "like" appointing like? If you are newly apponted and have an idea does a lack of seniority matter in any way? -

good question, wondering if any newbies are being considered ?I would imagine that answer is yes - given the age of some of them?freddo
Pretty much yes. Just like an elders meeting where they say "Billy's good but his wife's a fruitloop; how about Cecil?" "Yeah, he won't rock the boat - two thirds in favour? Aye!"
Except they don't have to ask the CO if it's OK!That would be funny (well it actually is very funny) if it werent the exact truth about how it really happens~

Hey everyone,
Just a simple straight forward question on exactly what the process is. If a GB member died tomorrow, do the remaining ones choose who gets to be next?
I am guessing the whole thing is highly political but since they are such a rule and paperwork oriented bunch, I am assuming they have a procedure they follow?

A fresh start
by FormerlySandL inafter the worst introduction i could ever make on the forum i would like to reintroduce myself and make a fresh start on the forum and hopefully over time i will be able to redeem myself.
i have changed my user name which was over dramatic and ridiculous in the cold light of day but for transparency and to show i am not trying to hide anything i have adapted the original name and it now has a more positive feel.
after reading a lot of posts on this forum i am feeling more optimistic about my future.

Just a simple question.
by Sabin indo you think it is easier for an elder to wake up to the wtbts because of the position he is in which gives him access to info that the rank & file would not be privy to, or do you think it would be harder for him to wake up because of all the prestige/power/admiration he receives as a result of being an elder, or does it come down to something else entirely?.

I think it is easier for them to wake up but harder for them to leave.
Great thread Sabin.

If your Absence doesn't affect them, then your Presence never mattered!
by stuckinarut2 inwhat a powerful quote!.
"if your absence doesn't affect them, then your presence never mattered.".
how true!
-
millie210
That is a powerful quote and so true.
I am realizing for the first time that the religion is heavily structured to make this so.
Anonymous articles written. Speakers names only briefly mentioned and they have to speak in a rotation rather than mostly requests.
Everything is set up in such a way that anyone can fall out and the line keeps marching, thus making it appear that there was no change and no affect.

Narcissistic personality disorder and the dubs
by purrpurr ini've recently started to research npd.
having identified several of my family members as having it ( no wonder we're such a ¿***#@**!!!!
up family)there's huge similarities between the borg and individual members of the cong as well i've noticed.the over whelming love of self, the need to believe in a grandiose fictional version of themselves, always striving for more power and wealth, being unable to stand any criticism, and then there's the manipulation of the victims too.i could be wrong i guess but what thoughts do you guys have about it?
-
millie210
So based on the above posts,
are these people born narcissists who also happen to be JWs?
did they start out ok (or at risk) and the religion caused the narcissism to bloom?
I can see some of what you all have mentioned in my JW family but I dont see it in my non JW family, except for one family member. So I am curious!

What Happens To You When You Die?
by minimus inare our dead loved ones watching over us at all or are they really just gone now?

millie210
Hi Minimus,
Good thread. The truth is no one knows.
Beware of people who speak with absolute certainty.
