What a nice person you are Zoos!
You did the right thing IMO.
If there truly is no God then whats the harm? To refuse to pray leans on giving too much credence to things not believed in, right?
i've read many statements on this forum from people who have expressed the sentiment that you don't shove ttatt down the throat of an older person.
it would be too traumatic and its best to let some people, in some situations, simply pass on in the delusion.. its humane.
merciful.. in the initial roar of my awakening, i was unable to cuddle up to that sentiment; preferring, instead, to shove the blood curdling shock of truth down the throat of anyone i could get my grip on... age be dammed.

it was a surprise to learn that there are quite a number of si books, and si tests, out there.. what are your thoughts on si?.
I put my heart and soul into that post ...
Xanthippe, I wanted you to know that I read this earlier this morning before heading out to enjoy some fireworks. It was very thought provoking.
As someone doing a slow fade after a lifetime of JW-ism, I have a steep learning curve. There is much to figure out.
Addressing the various complex and intricate parts that make up "the self" in a new way (apart from the black and white non negotiable way taught by the Org) is extremely important to me.
I like the points you presented. Thank you for sharing them.
hello everyone, it's been quite a while since i was last on this forum.
originally i was under a different user name, but lost all that information when i moved to a different state.
anyways, i had left the jws back in 2001, after being raised up in it most of my childhood life.
Why cant the JW relatives be the ones to leave after a few hours? Since they are the ones with the special requirements?
That would work out in my case because I am usually running late anyhow! They could leave before I actually made it (if it were me).
Besides, those type of parties are always more fun towards the end than in the beginning. So let em come and go. Then the real fun can start once you get there.
I am sorry you have to deal with this. It is so very unfair and I would say childish but children actually dont do silly things like this.
it really stands out to me just how phoney the bonds of forced brotherhood are.
the smiles are paper thin when they see each other in hotels.
the laughs forced.
Accurate descriptions.
Plus all the money it has taken for most families to achieve the goal of the "great assembly".
Time off work, vehicle in good repair, hotel costs, food costs and dont forget to donate!
For women especially, the assemblies are hell. Even in this day and age, women judge each other by hair, clothing and makeup.
Only the JWs have their own weird frame of reference for what is the top shelf look.
If you wear modest, long, flowing dress, mousy hair and makeup and are a pioneer, you RULE the look!
If you are a man, any suit will do, its that bowing and scraping to the elders and getting in your 10 hours a month that will look good on you. As a bomnus, volunteer in parking at the assembly where you get the blessing of standing for hours while rude people who dont want to be there ignore you sweating in your best suit on their behalf.
The other look that is envied is the extremely well to do look. While this is frowned on by the Org officially and while you probably wont get many "privileges" this is still a look that matters. Drive a great car, a great suit, nice jewelry and, Louboutins or DKNYs and a Kate Spade purse for the woman and you will get silent but very real admiration.
Of course, the tight, strapless and/or backless dressed will also get noticed, with pursed lips by the "sisters" and carefully suppressed sighs by their glared at husbands, especially if there is a tattoo involved.
I have seen many sisters feeling flattened under the weight of all this, crying while getting ready in the morning or in the evening if the day didnt go right.
Sucking back tears to get the kids down to the pool, because as we all know....that is the ONLY fun things the kids will get.
Hello Lost! Welcome!
What area of the world are you from? I live in the U.S.
i'm speechless.
i know this guy.

Your second link works just fine Dagney. So you know him? That must be quite a shock for you.
I hope your hand heals well and quickly!
i don't think this has been picked up anywhere yet.
the revised nwt released in 2013 is already out of date.
the second half of psalm 51:4 now reads "therefore, you are righteous when you speak, you are right in your judgment" in the online version where the printed version reads "so that you might prove righteous when you speak, and be right in your judgment".. fairly unimportant in itself, but i wonder what else has been changed without telling anyone..

Millie210: Could it be the Org doesnt want people to think they can gather in small groups?
Unless of course it is in basements hiding from police...(as in the 2016 drama videos!)
Too true Stuck!
i think for me in the last year the death of david bowie got to me the most.
not only in the way he handled his demise so classy by even making a song about it and a you tube about dying and sharing it with fans, but just his whole persona i always thought was pretty cool.
plus i enjoyed a good many of his songs.
flipper mentioned Janis Joplin. I think she would have soared to amazing heights.
Gone to soon unfortunately.
according to my elder in law, by next year the number of dc/rc's will increase by 143. the size of conventions will get smaller.
the elder in law says the goal is to make them all have around 2,000 or so at each.
they are going to make more manuals detailing each job and it's responsibilities.
Yes, if they make the big summer assembly seem like the old circuit assemblies then where is the excitement?
Besides, isnt this one of the ways to marry off their young people? Let them see each other at the "big" assembly?
I remember the young people used to do the promenade round and round in those big ole coliseums!

If they are going to add 143, then how many are there now?
I wouldnt have thought there were more than a hundred or so already?
