goingthroughthemotions,
I understand why you feel angry and know that it is legitimate.
I just wanted to say that I really appreciate you starting this thread. Being able to appreciate each others views is the most healthy way to move forward and you have made a space (this thread) where we can talk about it, so thank you my friend.

Great post cobweb!
I came here all wounded and shattered but still believing....
I almost left because of the cold superior attitude of one poster.
Fortunately, the warmth of other posters combined with the fact that they were telling the truth and the JWs were not kept me here.
Now I see the whole JW religion for what it is and have a more stable emotional foundation under my feet. This helps me to take blunt or even rude posts with a very tiny grain of salt.
This is a most wonderful forum with some extremely bright, kind and wickedly funny people and Im so glad I didnt crumple and slink away back when I was so very thin skinned.
There is a lot to be learned here...ignore what you dont need or want in your life.
I like the line from a song...
"take what you need and leave the rest..."

Anyone else watching the Leah Remini series "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath" on A&E?
by NikL inmy wife and i started to watch this last night and have covered only 2 episodes so far but it is really interesting.. there are so many similarities between scientology and wt.
not in beliefs of course but in their shunning, of their version of apostates etc.. it was amusing for me to see my active jw wife watch and get all indignant.
at one point a statement was made that a religion "shouldn't separate families" and she muttered to herself "absolutely not".. i am kind of hoping that jws will watch and see what is being carried on by a high control cult and eventually recognize it in their own lives.

It would be amazing if Leah extended her scope to other similar religions. Her existing notoriety would lend itself to more publicity, which would make it easier for the average jw to actually hear some of whats out there.

Scientology series, Leah Remini
by nonjwspouse ini did a quick search on this topic here and didn't come up with anything.
if anyone has the chance to watch this a&e documentary series on scientology hosted by leah remini it is very very good.
the parallels are just to obvious to ignore!

LongHairGal,
I wonder if one of the reasons your friend backed off is because it did remind her too much of the Witnesses?
The similarities are just amazing.

I asked my son to stop playing football.
by The Rebel ini asked my son to stop playing football.
it was a simple kick about he was playing with a friend using the garage door as the goal.
i then went to my home and thought no more about it.

You are not alone!
I blather on at times and dont clarify or even give reasons.
I rely on the innate kindness of my fellow posters to get by actually.
P.S. I love the name Orlando very much.

Fade Advice Please
by Zeds Dead ini got reinstated in the last month and had my record cards sent to a new congregation.
i went to a few meetings until i heard the cards had been sent and now i am looking to do a complete fade, no longer go at all.
the new congregation does not know me well and further away from where i live so i am hoping they will give up trying to make contact quickly.. any advice on do's and dont's and what to expect?.

The funny thing is, sometimes they do nothing at all and other times you can have the misfortune of a "diligent" elder lol.
The one time they seem to activate is pre C.O.s visit when they are trying to clean up their records and get ready to explain themselves.
So that would be twice a year they might try to contact you.
I am fading too and I always say 'i have been out of town on business and yes, I will try to make the C.O.s talk on Sunday! "
Of course, I never do go but the elders dont care....when they meet with the C. O. they can show they have done "their part" and he is happy and they are off the hook. That way the paper shuffle is all orderly.
No one really cares if I am there or not - not them and not me!

Today vs Tomorrow in the JW World
by Funchback ini am a teacher and coordinator in brazil.
the school (it's for adults) i work for requires that our students donate food (rice, beens, pasta) or clothes or toys every month.
then, at the beginning of the next month, we take all of the donated goods and deliver them to places that exist on receiving donated items.. two months ago, we delivered the items to a home that cares for kids with cancer.

No religious dogma will ever be able to replace first hand observation.
You wrote beautifully about that Funch.
This was always something i had a problem with as a JW. The explanation of "we are teaching them about the Kingdom and that is more valuable" didnt really satisfy my mind at all.

Mom died, How and When I found out
by 3rdgen inhi friends,.
it's been awhile since i've been talkative.
thought i'd give you an account of my latest family dysfunction.. a brief backstory is that i am an only child whose parents were born in jw's.
-
millie210
3rdgen I am so sorry. I wish I could reach out and give you a big hug.
Sometimes it seems so hard to tell where the dysfunction of the JW religion and the dysfunction of the individual begin and end, at least that has been my experience in my own family which is very similar to yours.
